resorts. but the big story on "action news" tonight is word of late developments in the fishtown section of philadelphia. the first reaction today was one of shock as word spread that 54-year-old kathy wilson was murdered inside her home. she was the victim of an absolutely brutal beating and late today police say two people admitted their involvement in the killing. "action news" reporter sarah bloomquist is live in the 1300 block of earl street. sarah, you've got the full story. >> reporter: well, jim, these new details we now know two are in custody, single digit-year-old james cheeveer and jane johnson. johnson worked for wilson here in her home helping her out because the victim wilson had been sick for some time. the motive we're told was robbery. people knew wilson had inherited money and police say the suspect took cash from the house after beating wilson to death. here's more now from homicide

captain james clark. >> i mean they knew she had a large amount of money in the house. they got in under the premise of cleaning her house. once inside, they demanded her money. she had it hidden and they repeatedly beat her until she told them where it was at. it was really sad and very senseless murder. >> reporter: homicide investigators spent the day here at the crime scene looking for clues as neighbors learned of wilson's death. as homicide detectives began their work here at 1347 earl street in fishtown, word spread that 54-year-old kathy wilson had been murdered. >> she's a wonderful lady to get along with but i didn't know she was killed until just now. >> reporter: this morning a woman who is now in police custody showed up at the nearby police district and told officers she thought wilson might be dead. officers went to the house and entered through a second floor bedroom window. they found all the gas burners on the stove had been left on. then they discovered wilson's

body on the first floor sofa. she had been very badly beaten. her hair pulled out. there was blood everywhere. >> what would be the motive for something like this? things like this don't happen you know around this neighborhood. it's horrible. >> reporter: pgw workers were called in to turn off the gas. police believe wilson was killed on friday. the last day she was seen alive. neighbors said wilson worked the polls every election day. she was very petite but had a big sense of humor. >> she had heart shaped sunglasses on. she was just a lot of fun a-lot of fun and it's a shame. i men especially here in fishtown i mean, tragedy. >> i'm just really in complete shock. she knew everybody in the neighborhood and i don't -- i don't understand. it's just crazy everything there happened to her. >> reporter: so again tonight two suspects in custody, 50-year-old james cheever and 47-year-old jane johnson boyfriend and girlfriend. we're told they have admitted

their involvement in this murder. both now charged with murder and robbery. live in fishtown, i'm sarah bloomquist, channel6 "action news. jim. >> thank you, sarah. two teenagers are in custody tonight after allegedly assaulting a teacher. the incident happened this morning at george washington high school in the somerton section of philadelphia. police say the ninth and tenth graders went to the teach's classroom to retrieve a cell phone. police say one of the teens punched the teacher in the face, the other teenager pushed the teacher two times. the teacher was taken to the hospital as a precaution. police have given the all clear at radnor high school. a students found a bullet at the school this morning. the school was put on lockdown as k-9 officers searched the building. police found no additional ammunition. law men say the school was a host site for the sat exam this weekend so they're unsure where the bullet may have come from. police say as a precaution, they'll have extra patrols around the school tomorrow.

from you in voorhees, new jersey, and are looking to fill up your tank with gas, you might want to be careful about which gas station you pull into. there is a luk-oil station that has apparently gone rogue charging a lot more than every other gas station in the neighborhood. new jersey correspondent nora muchanic is live on haddonfield-berlin road. nora, how is this gas station getting away with charging almost twice as much as the station down the street? >> reporter: jim, the gasoline retailers association tells us you can charge whatever you want but some local residents aren't buying that. because knowing that you can get gas right now for under two bucks a gallon, they're steamed this station is charging double that. >> i mean how many people is this guy going to rip off and get away with it. >> reporter: jeff pet pit of voorhees is mad. he says his teenage son paid $65 for 12 gallons of gas at this luk-oil station where a gallon of regular is selling right now for $3.98 and super

goes for $4.59. >> stop prescription people off. -- ripping people off. >> people are working hard today. if gas over here is $1.79, this guy $4.69. come on. >> reporter: petit complained to the gas station and also contacted our call for action volunteers who visited to ask about why this particular luk-oil's prices are so high. >> i don't make the gas prices, my boss does. >> reporter: uh-huh. >> you know what, ask him. >> reporter: jeff petit identified there man as the boss station owner tony caprio and petit is not the only one who has complained to him about his prices. >> i went up there one time i don't know why, just to tell him you're out of my mind. he's like just don't come here. it's $3.99 a gallon. how you going to do that? it's gouging someone. >> double what everybody sells charging. >> reporter: i don't make the gas prices. i don't know why he does it. you know what i'm not the boss. >> a spokesman for luk-oil tells "action news" they've received several complaints about high prices and the

company is that currently in litigation to strip him of his franchise. $3.98. >> $3.98. can't afford it. >> reporter: that may explain why the pumps at the luk-oil are mostly empty and citgo across the street where regular sells for $1.79 a gallon keeps busy. >> why pay double? if i have a cold beer after work i'm not going to a bar that has double the price. >> reporter: now, the station owner was not happy to see us today. he called the police on us and jeff petit as well. luk-oil tells us there it has not supplied product to this station in several months but it would not tell us any more because of pending litigation. in voorhees, i'm nora muchanic, channel6 "action news. jim. >> thank you, nor ranch philadelphia police are looking for three men. they say posed as contractors and stole $90,000 from a man in northeast philadelphia. investigators say the men did work on the 81-year-old's drive way a few weeks back. the victim's son-in-law tells police that they came back this weekend asking to use the

bathroom. instead, they went to the man's safe and stole thousands of dollars. police say the men are driving a into your model red pickup truck. accuweather says our warmer than normal temperatures are going to continue for a while then may be good news for many of us but if you like to ski and certainly not if you happen to own a ski resort. live at bear creek is lehigh valley correspondent walter perez at macungie township. walter, it is so warm even the snow making machines can't get to work. >> reporter: that's true, jim. it's getting bad. ideally bear creek liked to open up the slopes by december 15th if not earlier but there is not going to lap this year. a evidence two really cold really lucrative ski seasons in a row this year old man and winter is dragging his feet. it's december, there's no snow on the ground and the ski lifts are idle. >> it's definitely a cause for concern for us. >> reporter: jeff of bear creek's marketing director is talking about the relatively

balmy conditions that have rendered their snow guns useless. and while the resort's prime money making season goes from the end of december through thes day holiday weekend in february you cannot underestimate the value of having snowboarders and skiers on the slopes soon after thanksgiving. >> it has a lot of marketing value for people. when the weather is cold and there's snow on the ground there's any other a heck of a lot else to do other than try to get out and try to get outside and do especially. so, for us it builds up for us. this time of year really has a lot of value in terms of building the excitement, the anticipation. >> reporter: and while relatively mild weather in early december in this part of berks county isn't altogether unusual, it's a different story up in the poconos. even though it was a full 10 degrees colder today up in lake harmony, it doesn't really matter. as you can see, there's not a flake of snow at jack frost ski resort. officials here say it's a far cry from last year. >> last year we started making snow in november and we -- we -- we ran like

36 million gallons of water through here and turned it into snow. we had snow everywhere prechristmas. >> reporter: jack frost general manager mark says he's waiting for that first cold snap. >> we'll hit it hard and try and get something ready for the holiday. >> reporter: now to put in it terms of dollars and cents officials here at bear creek say at this pace the drop in revenue from last december to this december could be in the neighborhood of two to $3 million. reporting live from bear creek mountain resort, walter perez channel6 "action news." jim. >> thank you, walter. members of the jewish community are celebrating the second night of hanukkah tonight and in northeast philadelphia, members from different generations joined together to light a big menorah. ceremonies all over the area. >> ♪ >> this one took place at the freedom's foundation at valley forge clap pell of the four fathers in chester county. the ceremony was hosted by the pearl harbor remembrance association, the only active chapter left in the state of pennsylvania. survivors and local veterans also took part in a wreath laying ceremony and a 21 gun salute. >> ♪ >> new at 6 o'clock, this was the end of quite a journey in bensalem bucks county. it may have had a lot to do with ballroom dancing but for these young people it was really about so much more. a little while longer because we've got some 60-degree weather coming. >> or go out west. they're getting dumped on. they're having a great ski season but not here so much. >> we're not getting dumped on. >> not at all. it's going to get warmer as well. storm tracker6 live double scan showing that we do have some showers in southern delaware and off the coast of cape may. that's from a coastal storm that's really going to be missing us but it has been provide something cloud cover and that cloud cover making another gorgeous sunset. mary tweeted me this photo from center city overlooking the schuylkill and you can see the longer wave length colors, the orange and reds and yellows really reflecting off the cloud deck tonight, another beautiful sunset. temperatures definitely have been on the warm side. today's high 57 degrees. that's 9 degrees above normal. we're coming off our second warmest november on record and december temperatures so far a whopping 6.3 degrees above average so great for the heating bills. not good news for the ski

resorts, not only in the poconos but if you look at the snow cover in new england, you have to go he to northern maine to find more than 3-inches of snow on the ground. if you look at buffalo, no snow on the ground at all. the latest in 116 years to have no measurable snow and they will not be getting snow this week because temperatures actually will be climbing for the second half of the week. right now 51 degrees in philadelphia. millville has dropped down to 42. trenton is 49. allentown 46. wilmington 48. and reading 46. so, satellite6 along with action radar showing this coastal low, it's getting a piece of upper level energy that will really help it intensify but it's moving quickly out to sea so we'll just see some cloud cover in the overnight hours, a brush of some showers across cape may county and southern delaware and temperatures not that cold for this time of the year. 28 degrees in the cooler suburbs, 36 degrees for center city. that low pressure is moving so quickly. the clouds will be out of here in time for sunrise and tomorrow a bright day actually

probably the most sun of all the days this week, a little bit cooler than today, 51 degrees with winds out of the north four to 8 miles per hour but still that's above average for this time of the year. on wednesday, this high pressure nudges in. that brings us partly sunny skies. we warm up to 56 degrees. this low pressure will move up to the north but we'll see some cloud cover on thursday and friday but despite the clouds, temperatures will climb up into the 60's and could have record warmth for the weekend. so, tomorrow plenty of sunshine, 51 degrees. on wednesday, partly sunny, 56. thursday 60 degrees despite more clouds than sunshine, maybe even a sprinkle. friday clouds and some sun, 61 degrees and look at this on saturday we warm it up to 63 degrees. that's just 2 degrees shy of the record high. sunday, though, we lit that 65 sao. that ties the record high set way back in 1923. and monday some moisture moves in but we are talking rain not snow with a high of
