complaining. some people say it doesn't feel like the holiday season. it feels more like spring. take a look at these temperatures. the lie in philadelphi high in a 61 degrees, about 15 degrees above normal. wilmington and millville even warmer, 62. dover 64 degrees. sea isle city 64. areas to the south saw more sunshine. more clouds to the north and west. allentown 58 and reading 59 degrees and this continues the trend of our warm december weather. every single day so far this month has been above average. temperatures averaging seven and a half degrees above normal this month. and that will be shooting up as we head through the weekend. now, satellite6 along with action radar showing why we didn't get to the record highs today. we had the sunshine early but then the clouds rolling in in the afternoon. when we get the peak heating of the day. so, that's why temperatures were 4 degrees shy of the record high but we will be warming up as we head through the weekend. you can see areas to our southwest, atlanta it's 69,

chief is accused of using offensive slurs and throwing punches in an attack on a gay couple in center city. katherine knox is fighting the charges against her. today in court one of the victims testified. "action news" reporter trish harder man is live outside the courthouse with details on today's testimony. trish. >> reporter: well, rick, day two of testimony in the trial for katherine knox. a bloody shirt was shown on the stand. one of the jurors actually left the courtroom in a hurry after he looked at photos showing the victim's injuries. he later returned though to hear more about the investigation into the beating of a gay couple in center city: 25-year-old katherine knott of southampton is the only one who close to go to trial in this case. her co-defendants kevin harrigan of warrington and philip williams of warminster pleaded guilty and were sentenced to probation and jail time. prosecutors say the three were part of a group involved in the beating of a gay couple on september 11th 2014 in the 1600 block of chancellor

street alleging that knot took part in the beating and used gay slurs while doing it. both victims suffered black eyes. 28-year-old andrew told jurors his face was broken in several places and identified knot as one of the attackers. he testified "girl especially was really intense which i was surprised about. he went ton say his jaw will to be wired shut saying "for eight weeks i ate only broth. i lost about 15 pounds. i was emaciated. witness michelle moore said she saw the fight and stayed until police arrived saying "one was on the ground with blood. i thought he was dead. the other was stumbling around like he was looking for something. defense attorneys pointed out discrepancies having to do with knot's dress chlorinate. moore testified "a woman was punching a man on the ground. she had blond hair. that all i can remember. it looked like she had a whitish and black dress ." the victim previousological testified that knot was wearing a white dress. william brennan is a defense attorney sitting in on the case.

>> the defense seems to be doing a pretty effective job of saying that while she was with the group, she was merely present. >> reporter: now, the judge in this case has issued a gag order meaning that the attorneys and the witnesses are not allowed to speak to the media. the trial is expected to last for about one week. we're live in center city, trish hartman, channel6 "action news." monica. >> thank you, trish. wilmington based dupont is merging with dow chemical to form a company worth $130 billion. the two companies have brought the world products ranging from ziploc bags to teflon. the newly re88ed dow dupont will separate into three companies and they'll focus on agriculture material science and specialty products. the deal is going to involve cutting more than a thousand jobs though. "action news" reporter vernon odom will have details on that coming up in a full report at 6:00. >> there is a delicacy that seems to become very popular this time of year especially if you love ham. in fact it's become a growing

so, woodhaven eastbound not where you want to be. i would use street road to get to 95 instead. once you get there if you're trying to head southbound towards that sixers game there's a crash approaching cottman off to the side. speeds from woodhaven down to cottman just around 12 miles per hour. demonstration by city hall. around penn square watch out for congestion especially along broad street. still have a bad crash in souderton this evening blocking off harleysville pike 113. reliance road gets you around that. truck flipped over in newark on 95 northbound past 896. single digit speeds there. you could use route 40 as an alternate but there's also an accident there near people's plaza by the burger king so stay up on kirkwood highway as urinal. kirkwood highway is also your alternate around old capitol trail. westbound lanes blocked because of a gas main break this afternoon. still a crash involving a pedestrian in voorhees along burnt mill road. the burlington bristol bridge is up right now. we really have something for everyone rick and monica. we'll check it again in the next half hour. >> we'll do.

you can see a lot of folks out enjoying some ice skating on this very mild night. remember yesterday i showed you all the snow two years ago. what a difference even one year ago this time period the 11th through the 13th through the weekend we he were below average. temperatures anywhere from three to 8 degrees below average and we even had a touch of snow looking at today through the weekend temperatures soaring 15 to 23 degrees above average and records will likely fall over the weekend and even on monday. temperatures right now definitely on the mild side with the cloud cover. didn't make the records. philadelphia currently 59 degrees, allentown 51, millville 55, wilmington 58. cape may 54 and trenton 56 degrees. satellite6 along with action radar slowing those clouds did roll in in the afternoon during the peak heating of the day. if you look out across central pennsylvania, there are some breaks in the clouds but more clouds across the midwest. so, this weekend is going to be warm but it won't be

completely bright and sunny. we will have some cloud cover to deal with and tonight mixture of stars and clouds, again some patchy fog developing. look at this low, though. the low 48 degrees in philadelphia. that is warmer than our average high for this time of the year. reading 40, allentown 39, millville 40 and cape may's low down to 48 degrees. so, unusually mild night. if you're heading to the playground tomorrow with the kids, we'll already be about 60 degrees at 11 o'clock. by 3 o'clock, 66 degrees. some breaks of sunshine. a light wind. maybe a sweatshirt for 11 o'clock but they can peel the sweatshirt off by the afternoon with temps in the mid 60's. so, tomorrow near record highs, lots of clouds. philadelphia and wilmington i think we will set new record highs. allentown's record 63. so, we'll be close to that. millville 66. cape may 63. and trenton 64 degrees tomorrow. the problem, though, the air quality. with this inversion, the air can't really mix in the lower

levels so that means if you have asthma, if you have respiratory problems there are going to be a lot of fine particles in the air so good idea to limit outdoor activity. so, the five day forecast showing tomorrow record warmth, 66 degrees. sunday for the eagles game, it gets even warmer. 68 degrees. and monday that cold front, excuse me, will be slow to arrive so that means our high surging up to a record of 70 degrees. that cold front will bring us some rain in the afternoon and evening hours but behind it temperatures still mild in the 60's but there is cooler air on the way later next week. adam will talk about that in the accuweather 7-day forecast. this can't last forever, you know. >> pretty sweet, though. >> yes. >> thank you, cecily. >> thanks cecily. >> much more to come in the next half hour of "action news at 5:00 a philadelphia recycling truck takes down a neighborhood christmas display as residents watch in horror. what the head of the did he mean told "action news" about that. >> also a popular brand of iced tea is being yanked from store shelves because it may be too dangerous to drink.

>> thank you. closing arguments will likely happen monday in the manslaughter case against a baltimore police officer charged in the death of freddie gray. officer william porter is accused of failing to buckle gray into the back of a police wagon and not calling for a medic when gray requested one. porter who took the stand in his own defense says he didn't see any injuries but told the driver and a supervisor that gray wanted to go to the hospital. five other baltimore police officers are also facing criminal charges. >> in other news philadelphia police are looking for the man who inappropriately touched a young girl in olney. it happened tuesday afternoon about 4:00 p.m. here in the 200 block of widener street. the 11-year-old victim told police a stranger walked up to her reached out and assaulted her. she ran home and called police. if you have any information about this ink decent assault please contact philadelphia police. from our delaware news room this is limousine driver lawrence walls of millsboro. he's accused of trying to lure who he thought was a 15-year-old boy for sex but it

turns out he was really speaking with an undercover officer. the 58-year-old faces several felony charges including attempted indecent assault and statutory sexual assault. also from delaware a pickup truck driver was seriously hurt in this crash along i-495 in minquedale this afternoon. detectives say it started when the driver lost control in the southbound lanes near route 13 and went off the highway. the pickup flipped several times and landed upright in the northbound lanes there as you see. rescuers had to cut the driver from the car and rushed him to christiana medical center. traffic of course suffered backups in that area because of the investigation. >> the search is on for a modern day grinch who stole a christmas tree outside of north philadelphia business. luckily the thief's antics were captured on surveillance video. this is outside the eatable delights catering on the 2300 block of ridge avenue. it was on wednesday night when the suspect casually walked past the tree, each time unhooking it from the wall it was ad attached to that after

a few minutes the tree came loose and the thief dragged it across the street. the owner of the business says he's going to replace it as soon as he can but if you recognize this person, you're asked to contact philadelphia police. >> the chief of operations for the sanitation division of the streets department is apologizing tonight. this after a city recycling truck was captured on camera ripping down a large christmas display on oak drive in northeast philadelphia. josh morell posted a video on our 6abc facebook page. neighbors filed a complaint with the city and supervisors looked at it. >> if you look at the tape it wasn't intentional. it was just a guy trying to collect the trash and the decorations were lower than the -- than the height of the truck. the guys tried to correct the mistake. the only thing was they didn't report it timely to their supervisor. i apologize for that. >> the city says it will reimburse morell for the destroyed display. >> in just a few weeks mayor elect jim kenney will take

office and today his staff and the media had a chance to check out the venue for the inaugural block party. the event will be monday january 4th in the broad street atrium of the pennsylvania convention center. the party will feature local food trucks live music it is a free but invitation only event. the calendar says december 11 but it sure feels more like october out there and this crazy warm weather is going to stick with us through the weekend. temperatures are perfect for an evening outside. having dinner ice skating shopping or whatever you would like to do. village. they're sampling wine and looking at some of these booths here. it's feeling a little cooler since we lost the sun but a big difference from last year and this weather has been drawing people outside across the area all day long. >> our play is up significantly from previous years. >> reporter: no snow to ski on but you can work on your golf game. mild temperatures have stretched into december and it's given golfers more time to practice their swing at walnut lane golf club in roxborough. normally the golf course superintendent says they may get 10 people a day. this morning there were 10 people in the first group alone. >> i think this weekend is going to really be rocking and rolling around here. you can see we have all the golf carts out. normally there would only be two or three of that many out here and these things will go out all day today. >> reporter: also out all day are the skaters at dillworth park. a winter scene without the winter weather. temperatures are about 20 degrees higher than your typical december day. the ice is cold but skaters worked up a sweat swirling around rink. >> we were not expecting to

wrong time this afternoon. as you can see we're clearing out right now but to the west notice all of the cloud cover, the tennessee valley, the ohio valley, the northern plains all this is pushing in from the west so it's not going to be a bright sunny weekend. we're going to deal with a lot of high clouds but even with there cloud cover, we're still expecting record warmth. stars and clouds tonight, some patchy fog developing by morning, 39 in the suburbs, 49 degrees for center city for the overnight low. and high pressure is building right off of the carolinas and this is very typical of a summer high. a bermuda high with the winds pumping in clockwise around that particular weather feature and that pulls in all of the warmth with the warm front to the north so records likely and many locations in the eastern half of the country with temperatures 15 to 30 degrees above average. in fact the record tomorrow 65 set back in 1931. we're going for 66 so breaking that. the old record 65 on sunday easily breaking that at 68 degrees and that was set

back in 1923. and as we take a look at the eagles forecast, shorts, short sleeves at 1 o'clock, kickoff 65 and 67 by the fourth quarter. the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, again those records over the weekend. in fact, if you take a look at how rare this is or how above normal we're going to be on sunday, it's 23 degrees above normal. the normal is 45. if we were to have the same air mass in place over the fourth of july weekend, the normal is 87, it would be forecasted high of 110 degrees. that's how high above normal we're going to be and the record on monday which should fall was set back in 1881 and then we're still very balmy even though it cools down tuesday and wednesday still in the 60's and finally a touch of winter feeling coming in by friday with a high temperature of 49 with a few showers, guys. >> thank you. >> those flip-flops feel good already. thank you adam. quick break.

>> ♪ >> "action news." delaware valley's leading news program. with ducis rodgers, meteorologist cecily tynan and jim gardner. >> friday night accuweather is tracking a record breaking weekend ahead and the school reform commission offers philadelphia school superintendent william hite a contract extension. but the big story on "action news" tonight is the charge of aggravated arson in that fire last night in gloucester county.

the blaze erupted at 8:30 on lafayette court in washington township. tonight police say 32-year-old lynette mcguire and her cousin set fire to the house with mcguire's children and parents inside. "action news" reporter wendy salts plan is live at the fire scene. wendy, the charges indicate this is one horrific family crisis. >> reporter: and, jim, prosecutors spoke exclusively with "action news" telling us that they believe this fire was a ruse to get the four children out of the home so that the mother could snatch them. they also told us that there were allegations of abuse and that's the reason that those children were removed from their parents' care. this blaze destroyed much of a washington township home last night is now being blamed on the owner's daughter lynette mcguire and cousin denise coyle. prosecutors tell us what they believe was her motive for sparking the fire while her parents and four children were
