this investigation. walter perez, channel 6 "action news." >> okay walter thank you. developing now a jury deliberating the fate of a baltimore police officer charged with manslaughter in the death of freddie gray says they are deadlocked. officer porter is the first to stand trial in this case, the trial was turned over to a jury yesterday and the jury came back deadlocked this afternoon, but the judge sent them back to keep deliberating until they reach a decision. protesters staged a march around baltimore. an electronic threat shut down school for 660,000 students, officials say they weren't taking any chances and canceled all classes for the los angeles unified school district and that is the second largest in the country.

adam schiff who is on the council says the threat is believed to be a hoax. according to officials the threat that was electronically sent to a school board member mentioned backpacks and other packages and targeted many of the system's schools and the alert went out via smart phone and today local police are searching all the districts 900 schools to discover if that threat was credible. the superintendant and the chief of police were all saying they were not taking any chances. >> i made this decision to close the schools, that was after talking to the chief deputy superintendant. the chief of police of the school police. and after they reviewed with me the information that had been shared with them.

based on past circumstances i could not take the chance. >> reporter: and officials there both law enforcement and elected say they were standing behind him and officials say that the schools commonly get threats but they called today's incidents rare. as for the critics that says the city is overreacting the mayor says the number one priority was to keep the city safe and all the schools remain closed until they are cleared. but officials there saying they do believe it was a hoax. a man in mt. airy says he came out side to find a piece of bloody meat on his porch and was wrapped in a newspaper with a muslim prayer attached. john rawlins is live now where all of this happened today. >> reporter: hi brian, the investigation continues but it is evolving and moving from a possible hate crime

"action news" delaware valley's leading news program. with jaime apody, meteorologist, cecily tynan, rick williams and monica malpass. two separate attacks against people in center city are under investigation tonight, they happened just blocks apart and one of them is near a popular apartment building and the latest on "action news" is the latest on a stabbing and slashing that happens early this morning. live at the scene in center city with the full story christie? >> reporter: police have no mote he and they are calling the stabbings two random attacks that could be connected. >> report of a stabbing -- >> the first call came just before 6:00 a.m., cop cars and flashing lights swarmed 25th and walnut after reports of a stabbing.
