and entered stores and restaurants proclaiming that yes, black lives matter. it is tuesday night and the big story on "action news" tonight is passionate protests on the streets of philadelphia. "action news" reporter dann cuellar is live in center city. dann, sometimes loud, sometimes disruptive but never violent, correct? >> reporter: that is right, jim. unpredictable. for a while there was chaos on the streets here in center city as protesters marching in random even going into shops and restaurants. >> unaudible. >> reporter: protesters kept police and motorist guessing where they would go next as they marched through rush hour traffic on the streets of center city. >> i just want everybody to know that this is a no cop zone. no cop zone. >> reporter: about 50 members have the group black lives matter, were joined by relatives of the 26 year-old brandon tate brown, who was pulled over by police last december in the mayfair section. officers say they spotted a

peace that is exactly what we mean. >> reporter: in a statement from the office of the district attorney seth williams a spokesmen says the the office stand by it rye view of the facts in the case, period. the the protesters are new planning to protest at the mummers parade on new years day. we are live from center city, i'm dann cuellar for channel six "action news". >> thanks, dann. tonight search is on for this man, the suspect philadelphia police say that struck an officer with his car last night and then took off. investigators alleged that 26 year-old maurice taylor refused orders to stop, jumped into a car, and driving the wrong way, down the 2700 block of sears street, before he hit a police officer. the officer is being treated at jefferson university hospital, for a head injury, and a broken leg and a shattered kneecap. tonight, philadelphia police are trying to track down a center city slasher. police know of two incidents early this morning, separated by just 15 minutes and a few

running by. >> someone was chasing him. he fell. when i went out to try to help him, you know, i thought the the guy was punching him. but he wasn't punching him. he was stabbing him. >> reporter: ralph wilson works at river loft apartments and he immediately started yelling at the attacker from the front door. >> i said cut that out, you know, and he just stopped, and walked away calmy. like he didn't have a care in the world. >> reporter: police say they have no motive as suspect never took anything from either of the victims. after each violent altercation. >> what we have thus far is it appears he approached the individual, pulled out the knife, and began to cut the individual. >> reporter: detective say both attacks are isolated to the center sit the eye neighborhoods. >> if there is anything, that anybody, you know, anybody saw or heard anything. >> reporter: mcnamara is hoping someone comes forward with information on the brazen attacker. now, those victims were treated at nearby hospitals and released earlier today.

police say suspect was last seen on the foot heading westbound on cherry street. anyone with any information is asked to contact them. the reporting live, christie lleto, channel six "action news", jim? >> thanks, christie. now to a developing story from the the nashville airport where a plane has gone off the runway injuring eight people. southwest airlines says that the boeing 737, had just landed from houston, and was taxiing to the gate when it rolled off the runway on to grass and got stuck. 133 passengers and five crew members safely evacuated the plane. authorities say most of the victims have minor injuries, one had chest pain, and faa investigators have not yet determined what caused the plane to leave the tarmac. delaware authorities say say texting while driving was to blame for this car slamming in the home in christiana this afternoon. fortunately no one was inside or nobody was hurt but the home on the unit block of archer circle has been

condemned by a building inspector. police say the the 23 year-old man behind the wheel is now facing charges. family of the missing teenage girl, believed that her body was found yesterday, in cape may county. a corpse was found in the the 100 block of vermont avenue in the the rio grand section of the middletown ship. police haven't confirmed if the body is that of five-year old nicole angstat but her family says there is no doubt. she was reported missing by her mother two weeks ago. pennsylvania's public pension system will end up paying jerry sandusky tens of thousands of dollars in benefits the that despite his convictions on child sex abuse. the agency stopped paying sandusky's $4,900 a in month pension in october of 2012. but commonwealth court has ruled that forfeiture was wrong and that the state owes backed benefits plus interest. the window to appeal has now expired, and the pension system a said today that it

will comply with the order sandusky will get his money. mack truck plans to layoff 400 people at its plant in the lehigh valley, that is 20 percent of the work force there. the facility in lower macungie township assembles every mack truck built in the north american market and export. auto maker blames job cuts on weaken demand. the workers will stay on the job through the holidays. these layoffs take effect january 21st. camden county's district attorney says he wants kathleen kane's job. the john morgannellie said he will run for pennsylvania attorney general. he says he will launch his campaign in the few months but there are already at least three other democrats who will challenge him for the nomination, and kane herself says that she's interested in a second term but she acknowledges that she may not be eligible with a suspended law license while fighting criminal charges. it should be easier for ex-felons to find work in

philadelphia, under a new law signed today by mayor michael nutter. legislation prevents employers from running a criminal background check on applicants until will they have been offered that job. they could only look at the candidates past seven years. the idea toys destigmatized a criminal past so job seekers are judged on their current merits. however the law does not apply to domestic jobs like child care and elder care. tonight, in las vegas, republican candidates for president gathered for the first time since san bernardino and the entire debate has concerned terrorism and security. most eyes were on donald trump who defended his call to ban muslims from the you had. trump insisted that his controversial plan is not an attempt to discriminate and is not an attempt to close america off from the rest of the world. >> we are not talking about isolation. we're talking about security.

officials responded differently. los angeles united cool district decided to close all schools, nearly 1100 schools, after board members received an e mailed threat. new york city public schools remained opened after city leaders deemed the threat in the credible. the threats are being investigated as a hoax. schools in los angeles will be opened tomorrow. it looks like the u.s. is backing down on the issue of syria'sal assad as future of syrian president. after meeting with russian president vladamire putin, secretary of state john kerry said in moscow that the u.s. is not seeking regime change and kerry accepted russia's long stand demand that assad's future be determined by his own people. the change shows that the fight against isis has taken priority, over assad, from the the american perspective. we have learned more tonight about this pickup truck's rampage into a hotel lobby in oklahoma and the
