are testifying today against two rivalries in a bribery scandal. and the republican candidates faced off last night for the final time this year. and the big story is the arrest by police after two random stabbings just blocks apart in center city. police took kyle stevens into custody and says that stevens attacked two men just minutes apart yesterday morning. katherine scott is here with the latest on the investigation. >> reporter: rick, a lot of relief this morning that the guy is in custody, he sin side central detectives and we are told that he is not cooperating with police, police have an arrest warrant and he will be charged in these attacks. 23-year-old kyle stevens was arrested in center city philadelphia, wanted for a pair of knife attacks yesterday morning in center city.

he was walking down the street down broad and allegheny being loud and destructive, guards called 911 and police responded and brought him to central detectives. investigators carried in the bag of evidence belonging to stevens. stevens was identified from a surveillance camera. he slashed two men, ages 23 and 42 one is joshua mcnamara who tells "action news" he was walking to the gym when it happens. >> turned to walk away and that is when this guy came around the corner and slashed at my cheek. >> police tell me that yesterday morning stevens went to einstein hospital to be treated for cuts on his hand and he remains in custody here in central

detectives. >> katherine thank you. a shooting victim is in critical condition after he crashed head-on into a tractor trailer while trying to drive himself to a philadelphia hospital, the man was shot in the philadelphia german town section and crashed in tioga-nicetown, and that crash left him trapped in the car, police believe that drugs may have been a factor in the crash. >> inside of the 2003 chevy blazer that the victim was driving, you can see in plain view several packets of what appears to be crack cocaine. >> police are checking cameras in the area where the victim was shot to try and find the shooter. >> philadelphia are looking to find a shooter overnight. flyers mark dara street where the shooting took place at 11:30 last evening, police say that a

suv crashed in front of the hospital when the driver tried to get help for a 35-year-old man shot in the face and back. a woman was also shot in the leg and she was treated and released. police continue to search for suspects in the shooting. >> at least five people were hurt after a septa bus crashed in a chain reaction yesterday. it happened in the corner of torresdale avenue and benner street in the wissinoming section, one was hit in wissinoming. four passengers involved in the bus and the bus driver were treated for injuries. they are all expected to be okay. in bucks county a tractor trailer crashed at the toll bridge connecting morrisville and trenton, the bus was on its way from new jersey into pennsylvania when it crashed. no one was hurt.

breaking news now from the german section of philadelphia, chopper 6 hd over martin luther king high school on the 6100 block of stenton avenue where philadelphia police have taken a male into custody after recovering a b.b. gun at the high school this morning. it was reported at 11:30 this morning, just before 45 minutes ago. police have converged on the scene and nobody was injured. there is no word on what led to the discovery of the b.b. gun and no word on the identity of the male in custody or whether he is a student. we are gathering more information we'll bring you that on air and online at 6abc.com. defense secretary, ash

carter is in iraq this afternoon where he is seeking ways to hasten the down fall of isis. he arrived in baghdad for an unannounced visit, he is meeting with iraqi leaders in mali and mosul. the fight against isis is top of mind here in the united states as well. in the wake of terror attacks in paris and southern california, new numbers show that the majority of american are against banning assault weapons, 53% of americans oppose a ban and support is down 11% in two years and down 35% since 1994. less americans are concerned about being the victim of a terror attack compare to the last year. and half of all of them surveys, they say teaching americans to carry guns is a better answer to
