it will be a bit of a shock to the system tomorrow. earlier in there week we had the record warmth. today it's finally feeling like december. the average high for this time of the year is 44 degrees so still slightly above normal but i want to show you the air mass that will be moving in over the weekend. here it is. this is with temperatures in the teens. it will be modifying as it moves in. so it will be warming up a little bit but the winds are going to be a big factor through the day tomorrow. tonight if you're heading out out on the town a friday night you definitely do want a winter coat. at 7 o'clock 42 in philadelphia. 41 by 8:00 40 by 9:00 and by 10:00, 39 degrees with the same time the temperatures are dropping, the winds will actually be picking up so future tracker showing 11 o'clock tonight it's going to feel like winter. wind chills already below freezing and wind chills tomorrow morning in parts of our region will actually be dropping down into the teens

so is what to expect tonight through the day tomorrow. we're looking at whipping winds. tomorrow wind gusts could be up to about 35 miles per hour. so, that combined with temperatures below normal means wind chills tomorrow in the 20's and low 30's but it doesn't last long. i'm tracking record warmth right in time for christmas eve. i'll have details on that coming up in the full accuweather forecast. rick. >> cecily we'll check back in later. thank you. with the colder temperatures moving in montgomery county has issued a code blue alert from tonight at 10 o'clock until 10:00 sunday morning. the code blue is issued when winter temperatures could cause serious arm t harm to peoe without shelter. 6abc.com/weather is your resource. check in with storm tracker6 live throughout the weekend for updates along with the latest from accuweather. >> two new jersey teachers are under arrest tonight accused of assaulting teens with special needs. prosecutors say they have surveillance video of the crimes unfolding at the

bancroft school in camden county. trish hartman is working this story this evening she's live with the details. trish. >> reporter: well, sharrie, authorities say both women admitted to beating special needs students with a black leather belt at the bancroft school, the chilling details are in this paperwork and now police want to know if there are more victims out there. police say it happened in the early hours of december 8th. a nurse at the bancroft school, a residential school for special needs students in haddonfield noticed marks on a student's body and called police. when they arrived at the school detectives viewed surveillance video that they say shows two employees beating a 14-year-old special needs boy with a belt in the overnight hours. it also shows a 19-year-old special needs student being held under a desk against his will. the two employees, 28-year-old nastasia hines of burling city and mondja djamba.

according to the arrest warrant the kidnapping charge stems from when one of the women made the 19-year-old crouch under a desk for several hours hitting him with a belt and kicking him when he tried to move preventing him from leaving. according to police documents she admitted to the abuse. she stated she would use the belt to threaten children. she also stated she forced the student to stay under a desk and placed her body in front of him blocking his ability to exit. hines also told detectives she beat students with a belt admitting to slapping students as well. in response to the charges bancroft released a statement part of which reads we have a zero tolerance policy toward any action that would endanger or purposefully injure an individual served at bancroft. our primary concern is always for the well being and safety of those we serve. now a bancroft spokesperson says both of those employees have been fired. if you have any information about other cases of abuse you're asked to contact the camden county prosecutor's

office. lie in camden county, trish hartman, channel6 "action news." rick. >> trish, thank you. a former philadelphia sheriff appeared in federal court today and pled not guilty on a number of charges. john green is accused of fraud, filing fake tax returns and taking bribes. federal prosecutors say green gave james davis' firm business from the sheriff's office real estate sales or from distressed homeowners properties. in exchange green was given personal benefits including gifts. >> it was a corrupt relationship between mr. davis and former sheriff green and sheriff green was not providing the honest services to the citizens of philadelphia can which he was elected to provide. >> green's bail was set at $50,000. if convicted of all charges he faces a maximum sentence of 85 years. green stepped down in 2011 after 22 years. >> new from our new jersey news room now, demolition work on an old high school is

causing a lot of concern tonight. neighbors are worried about what's spewing into the air and angry about the mess that's being made. new jersey correspondent nora muchanic has the details from trenton. >> reporter: this is home video of demolition work at trenton central high school that residents say clearly shows what they've been putting up with for months, clouds of dust that drift off the site and blanket the neighborhood. >> we've experienced a lot of noise, a lot of dust. we don't know what we're breathing in. we're very concerned. >> reporter: frank faris who lives across from the school on chambers street says his porch was painterred just this past summer but now there's a coating of film and dust on his property that has to be cleaned regularly. ferris has shot a number of videos of the high school and is upset because he says demolition crews don't always spray down the site when work is going on. >> that's illegal. you have to have water suppression. >> you're supposed to take the building down piece by piece not take the whole thing down all at once.

that just creates a huge cloud and that wind is blowing that stuff over here. >> reporter: ferris says he and other neighbors have mind numerous agencies including the school development authority which is heading the project. the site has been the subject of several inspections and no violations were found. faris has shown his video to trenton's health director who is trying to organize a sit down with the parties involved. >> there absolutely is visible emissions going across the street. there is water being used during the demolition process. that is a reason to bring everybody together and do a look at the work practices. >> reporter: demolition at the high school is expected to be finished by the end of january. for some of the residents that can't come soon enough. in trenton i'm nora muchanic channel6 "action news." >> in washington, president obama held his year end update today at the white house. he talked about a number of topics but mainly concentrated on terrorism as the country is increasingly concerned about national security. the commander-in-chief tried to make the case that his administration is doing

everything it can to defeat isis at home and abroad. >> counter terrorism intelligence law enforcement communities are working 24/7 to protect our homeland and all of us can do our part by staying vigilant. >> the president is now on his way to meet with families of the san bernadino shooting victims. after that he is headed to hawaii for his holiday vacation. meanwhile the president just signed off on a $1.1 trillion spending bill. it means that the government will be funded for the first nine months of next year avoiding a potential shutdown. president obama also told lawmakers that they're ending 2015 on a high note because they passed transportation and education bills. >> as 2015 comes to an end, members of my brothers keeper philadelphia are reflecting on this year's accomplishments. today the organization held a year end summit in spring garden. mayor michael nutter was on hand and thanked everyone for

their participation. my brothers keeper is an initiative created by the white house to identify challenges facing young black men and how schools can can serve them better. >> time to get a check on the commute home. >> let's go live to matt pelman in the "action news" traffic center and busy behind you there matt. >> maybe a head start on their shopping too if they haven't gotten started yet 'cause only a week to go until christmas day rick and sharrie so stands to reason that a lot of people would be headed to the king of prussia mall. well they have this in there way. 202 northbound at 422 an accident taking out the left lane causing a delay on 202 northbound as you head towards the schuylkill and the mall this afternoon. slow going on that that side of the fence as well. had accidents on both sides of the fence along 95 at the girard point bridge this afternoon. looks like the southbound one is gone but you're still looking at speeds in the 30's and less coming down from penn's landing.

of an aids drug has resigned. it comes one day after martin shkreli was arrested for unrelated fraud charges. investigators say he used one of his company's cash in stocks to settle millions of dollars in debt from his now defunct hedge funds. the 32-year-old has pled not guilty. he infamously increased the price of a life saving pill from $13.50 to $750 per tablet. >> the fda is proposing a ban on indoor tanning for anyone under the age of 18. the agency also wants all indoor tanners to sign consent forms acknowledging the serious health risks of tanning beds. many states already ban minors from tanning but some allow -- will allow it if a parent signs off on it. dermatologists and pediatricians applauded the proposal. indoor tanning has been linked to a rising rate of skin cancer in young adults. >> copping with health check. as soon as the holidays pass that's when new year's

resolutions can kick in. each year thousands of people vow to quit smoking. >> "action news" in the philadelphia health department would like to help. health reporter and registered nurse ali gorman lie at the big board to explain. hi, ali. >> hi, guys. we have an expert in our studio right now, ryan kauffman with the health department is here in our studio. he knows all the tricks and tools and resources to help people quit. he's answering questions on a live facebook chat. we'll have more on that in a minute but first here's some inspiration. 54-year-old michelle pleasant is a mother of three and has a full-time career as an executive secretary for the philadelphia police department. she's also an exsmoker but she used to be hooked on the habit. she smoked a pack a day for 35 years. >> so, whenever you had stress in your life, cigarettes would calm you down so it was a crutch. >> but then two things happened that made her re-evaluate. she found cigarettes in her teenaged son's pockets and her

mother dorothy was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. her mom who also smoked asked michelle to quit. >> she just looked at me and said daughter you have to stop smoking and it kind of hit me. >> her mom passed away and it would take another few years but two years ago michelle officially quit. she got help from the pennsylvania free quit line. it provides nicotine replacement patches and also a quit coach. >> on days when you felt like you really needed a cigarette they may send you a text and say how are you doing today. i would text them back saying i'm fine. good i'm proud of you. they kept you where you needed to be. >> now as a nonsmoker michelle says she has more energy and can breathe easier. her son is also not smoking. she tells others it may take several attempts to quit but keep trying. and she shares the key to her success. >> it has to come from here. you have to want to be a nonsmoke, an exsmokesser because if it's not rooted in your mind, it's not going to

>> well, we will honey. you've already used that joke like three times this season. >> it's not over. wait until next week. >> keeps coming back. live on sky6 taking a look at the ben franklin bridge and you can see a lot on sky6 tonight. you can see the river rink at penn's landing. last night we had a lot of fog developing but for fog to develop you need calm winds and that is not the case tonight. winds right now sustained generally out of the west-northwest about 17 miles per hour in philadelphia, 18 in wilmington, 15 in reading and what these winds are doing is helping pull down some colder air and that will be arriving tomorrow. right now the wind chills generally in the 30's, feels like 38 degrees in philadelphia right now. feels like 29 in lancaster. so if you're heading out on this friday night you definitely do want a winter coat because temperatures dropping down to more seasonable levels and the winds will be with us all night long. so, philadelphia 32 degrees, low tonight allentown 28,

reading 29, millville 29, wilmington also 29, popular number and trenton 30. you factor in the winds. wind chills will be generally in the 20's overnight so definitely a cold start to the weekend and satellite6 along with action radar showing we still have some clouds. there's that cold front that really stalled off the coast and we did get some brief showers late in the morning, even mixed in with a little bit of colder air in the atmosphere but if you look out to the west you can see actually some snow showers beginning to develop in western pennsylvania and new york state. the first lake effect snow event of the season and that will continue through the day tomorrow. future tracker showing some snow near buffalo, northwest pennsylvania. here at home we'll see a good amount of sunshine but 7 o'clock in the morning wind chill 21 degrees in philadelphia and as we head through the day the winds really with us so the wind chill struggling to make it up to the freezing point so definitely you need to dress in layers tomorrow.

on sunday the winds diminish, high pressure really building in to our south so at 3 o'clock, the wind chill pretty close to the actual air temperature, 39 degrees so the winds will not be as much of a factor on sunday as tomorrow. so, if you're heading to the linc sunday night as the eagles take on the cardinals, it will be a chilly night. winds not too strong. general 36 miles per hour. great football weather. you just have to dress for it. kickoff temperature 38 degrees by the fourth quarter temperatures not dropping all that much down to 37. so the five day at 5:00 slowing tomorrow it's going to feel like winter. blustery with a high of only 42 degrees. first time this month temperatures below normal but that 42 will feel closer to 30 with the wind chills. on sunday the winds diminish. still a little bit on the chilly side, 45 degrees. and monday winter arriving officially late monday night but it feels like spring. 56 degrees, increasing clouds. perhaps a shower. tuesday showers but mild, 60 and wednesday big travel day, the day before christmas eve, it will be warm, near record

>> "action news" continues with meteorologist adam joseph, jaime apody, rick williams and monica malpass. >> hello again. monica is off. sharrie williams is joining us tonight. here's what's happening on "action news" this evening. presidential hopeful bernie sanders is going head to head with democratic officials over a breach in the dnc's voter database. we have the latest. an all out manhunt under way for a teen who killed four people in a drunk driving crash and got off with just probation. officials are worried the so-called affluenza teen may have fled the country. and toyota helped put the drive in food drive today delivering hundreds of thousands of pounds of donations to needy families in our area. >> and now the details. the three democratic candidates for president are gearing up for their final show down of the year and new numbers show frontrunner hillary clinton still has a commanding lead.

>> that's right. according to the latest abc news washington post poll, clinton has the support of nearly 60 percent of registered democrats. senator bernie sanders trails clinton by more than 30 percentage points. former maryland governor martin o'malley still sits in the single digits tonight. >> but the new poll also highlights a weakness for clinton among voters. honesty and trustworthiness. despite clinton's lead, nearly half of all the democrats that were polled say senator sanders is more honest and trustworthy. those numbers could be impacted though after sanders' campaign was suspended from using the democratic national committee's voter database. according to the dnc, a breach allowed a staff to improperly access information compiled about hillary clinton and her campaign. that staffer told abc news he was trying to investigate the

breach so that he could report the problem to the dnc's vendor. he was fired, though. sanders is now suing the dnc blaming them for trying to undermine his campaign. sanders and clinton will go led to head along with martin o'malley. that's tomorrow night in new hampshire. the debate is hosted by abc news and of course you can watch it right here on 6abc starting at 8:00 p.m. >> republican candidates for president continued their trek on the campaign trail. days after their final debate of 2015, last night texas senator ted cruz was attacked by a protestor with a piece of paper. cruz was continuing his fight with florida senator marco rubio over immigration. earlier this week the two went toe to toe over the issue. cruz accused rubio of being too lenient and siding with democrats. rubio blamed cruz for shifting his views on immigration to pander to republican voters. >> federal officials have launched a manhunt for the texas teen who mounted the

infamous affluenza defense in court. ethan couch killed four people in a drunk driving crash after his attorneys argued he was too spoiled to know right from wrong, couch got off with probation and zero jail time but now couch appears to be on the run. abc's elizabeth hur working the story this evening. she is following the very active search for this teenager. elizabeth is live in new york tonight. elizabeth. >> reporter: sharrie, authorities say tips are pouring in as they now search worldwide for this 18-year-old who officials say turned into a fugitive after missing his mandatory probation hearing. not long after posting this video he from a booze party on twitter investigators say ethan couch vanished. the 18-year-old was due in court on december 3rd for his probation hearing but not only was he a no show, his mother is also missing. >> i believe they left right after his last appointment with his probation officer. i believe they planned and

timed their get away to give him the maximum amount of time to be gone before we started looking for them. >> reporter: the fbi and u.s. marshals fugitive task force now joining local investigators tracking the family's passport phone and financial records not ruling out the possibility couch fled the country. >> he's going have to look over his shoulder the rest of his life. we're not going to not come after him. any time he gets anywhere that we could apprehend him we're going to find him. >> reporter: couch was serving 10 years probation after a drunk driving in 2013 left four people dead. at the time he was 16 and his legal team argued he suffered from a condition called affluenza. >> when is the last time you recall disciplining ethan for anything? >> i don't remember. >> reporter: in other words, his lawyers argued he was too spoiled to know right from wrong. couch reached financial settlements with the victim's family and acknowledged avoid

jail time with his affluenza defense. as for consequences officials say when ethan and his mother are apprehended if there's a way to prosecute his mother they will but because under the current law ethan is still considered a juvenile, he's still unlikely to face any jail time for now. that is the very latest from here live in new york, i'm elizabeth hur for channel6 "action news. rick. >> all right, elizabeth, thank you. back here pennsylvania attorney general kathleen kane said she's not punishing her sister for exchanging inappropriate e-mails because of ethical issues. kane's twin sister state prosecutor ellen granahan. kane appointed a special prosecutor to investigate porn gate. today the democrat issued a statement saying her involvement in any disciplinary action is

prohibited by state ethics laws. it reads in part "i have never characterized or judged the content of my sister's e-mails. these e-mails along with all of the others will now be judged by the independent prosecutor. >> christmas is just one week away and today toyota helped put the drive in food drive with hundreds of thousands of donations for those in need around the delaware valley. "action news" reporter annie mccormick has the story. >> reporter: it is toyota's ninth annual haul away hunger event and this impressive caravan arrived to a bit of philadelphia fanfare. volunteers and organizers jumped into action ready to fill waiting trailers. all of the donations go to philadbundance, the area's largest hunger relief resource. this year, the hall away hit a special milestone. >> the first year i think we had 50,000 pounds of food and 12 trucks or whatever we did. and this year we have 250,000 pounds of food. >> reporter: and since this event is done by toyota what

better way to get the donated food from north philadelphia to south philadelphia than by a toyota tundra. in fact they have almost 80 tundras out here this year because the event has grown so much. the tri-state toyota dealers association plus 26 business partners including 6abc donated funds that philadbundance uses to feed people all year, not just during the holidays. >> because they're giving us a flexible donation we're able to use the money and purchase food when we need it throughout the year particularly in the summer when it's an issue because kids are out of school and they lose their school meals. >> this 250,000 pounds of food philadbundance is going to go through in a little more than a week. so, this is a need that needs to be met 52 weeks a year, not just the week before christmas. >> reporter: in south philadelphia, annie mccormick, channel6 "action news." >> ♪ >> all right. well, the 10 year wait is over for star wars fans. the seventh installment of the

franchise hit theaters nationwide last night. >> but it's clear the buzz and the hype around the movie will remain high throughout the weekend. the action cam was out at franklin square in center city. tonight franklin square friday celebration will be star wars themed complete with an appearance from darth vader and boba fet. >> moviegoers turned out in droves to be among the first to seat force awakens. the action cam spotted crowds into the wee hours of the morning. the fans say the movie did not disappoint. >> it's all the hype that you thought it would be. some of it's bigger, some of it's better and it brings back the whole skywalker family. >> it was a great movie. i was super excited watching it. now i'm really excited for the next one. it was a great time at the movie theater. >> all right. disney officials say the movie is practically -- is that monica right there? that's where she is.

number and 17 degrees that wind chill feel in the poconos. so we've got a brief shot of cold air across our region. we have the dip in the jet stream allowing for that cold air to spill out of can today. temperatures over the weekend will be in the 40's but things flip back around as we get into next week. the jet stream moves up to the north so by christmas eve we're back up to the warmth with that surge of southwesterly wind, warm with records on the way christmas eve and it looks to be pretty mild as we get into christmas day. here's the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast blustery and cold tomorrow. wind chills in the teens and 20's in the morning then the 30's by the afternoon with a high of 42. on sunday it is sunny and chilly, mostly sunny a high of 45 degrees. the eagles at home at the linc on sunday night. kickoff around 8:30 and those kickoff temperatures will be in the upper 30's. on monday winter begins at 11:48 in the evening and at night 56 degrees is the number. 60 on tuesday with showers around.

katherine knott charged with attacking a gay couple on the streets of center city philadelphia. knott emerged from the criminal justice center today having been convicted of misdemeanors simple assault but exonerated of even more serious felony charges. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live outside the courthouse. katherine, reports say knott was sobbing after hearing the verdicts but obviously it could have been much worse for her. >> reporter: it certainly could have, jim. as you said she was acquitted of the most serious of the charges. this was a mixed verdict and in the end both the prosecution and the defense said overall they were pleased with the jury's decision but i did speak with several members of the jury who expressed frustration and even disappointment that they couldn't have done more for the victim. >> as much justice as can be done has done. >> reporter: jury for man left court today saying the jury did the best they could convicting 25-year-old katherine knott on four misdemeanor counts in th
