lakisha holloway veered onto the sidewalk up there three times sunday night accelerating into the crowd just outside the paris hotel and casino he. >> video confirms we believe it to be an intentional act. >> reporter: a wife and mother of three from arizona was killed. this go fund me page set up for her family. at least 35 others were also injured while holloway's three-year-old child sat inside the swerving car. several witnesses tried running alongside the vehicle to stop it. >> it looked like she wasn't even trying to stop the car. she had both her hands on the wheel and was looking straight forward. >> reporter: police caught up to the driver moments later. >> we have this driver in custody. >> that's affirmative she's in custody. >> reporter: investigators don't believe this was an act of terrorism but admit they know very little about holloway or a how abou possible. >> we believe she had some disassociation with the father of her child homeless residing in her vehicle e the toddler

injuring three others. the pentagon did not release the nationals of the wounded or the names of the dead just yet. bagram is the largest u.s. base in afghanistan. almost 10,000 american troops serving there to train the afghan military. three members of the colwyn fire department were arrested today for stealing money from their own firehouse. and one of the suspects is the chief. chad pradelli live in media where prosecutors just laid out the details of their investigation. chad, what do we know about this? >> reporter: brian, investigators say this was not a very sophisticated scheme. the trio suspects basically had control of the colwyn borough fire company's bank account and used them to write themselves checks and take out cash totaling more than $50,000. investigators escorted a handcuffed colwyn borough fire chief gary bryce to court this afternoon to be charged with theft, conspiracy and other related charges. the delaware county district

attorney says bryce fire company treasurer elizabeth salini and her daughter lauren used the fire company's bank accounts as their own personal piggy bank. >> most of it taken out in cash at the bank counter. some of it in checks being issued either to the mother betty or to the boyfriend, the fire chief gary bryce. >> reporter: authorities got wind of the alleged theft after former borough mayor paula brown said fire company bills weren't being paid though the nonprofit should have had money to do so. when confronted elizabeth sanini said the expenditures were legitimate and certain vendors wanted cash. the bookkeeping records were shoddy and they received a bag of receipts. >> one allegation when they foundry seats that they gave us they spent it on dog treats and dog toys. i don't think they have a dalmation at the fire

companyism 2008 the fire company was raided for allegedly operating an ill lease speak easy and the bankrupt borough itself has been under investigation for missing money for months. former councilman gary brundig showed up. >> i think this is a good first step but it's a first step. there's a lot of stuff going on there. this is like the tip of the iceberg. >> reporter: and the d.a.'s office tells me that elizabeth salini has retained an attorney and is expected to turn herself in. her daughter's whereabouts were at last check unknown. chad pradelli channel6 "action news." sharrie. >> we're following breaking news. police have found body of 75-year-old man inside a center city hotel. they tell us that he was inside a room at the road way inn hotel located at 12th and walnut. police say they found him around noon face up on the floor with a cloth wrapped

"action news" reporter dann cuellar is on the scene. he'll have a live report at 5 o'clock. >> philadelphia police now say speed was a major factor in the crash that killed three women in holmesburg early yesterday morning. a 2015 camaro slammed into a tractor-trailer parked on torresdale avenue and burst into flames. investigators have determined that truck was legally parked. today they also identified the driver as 25-year-old amani bart man from yeadon. scavo was a passenger. police are working to confirm the third victim's name. walter perez will have a live report tonight at 5 o'clock. and developing right now new jersey wildlife officials just gave us more information on a scout master who was attacked by a bear in rock a way township. they say christopher petronino went to a cave at split rock

reservoir. he had been in that cave before but this time there was a bear inside. the animal apparently pulled him in and bit his leg and both shoulders. he hit the bear with a rock hammer but that did not stop the attack. the bear eventually left the cave. there were three scouts there and a dog at the time. that dog barked and scared the bare off. he called 911 and got help. he is in the hospital today but is expected to survive. it is time now for a first check of the accuweather forecast. >> let's head outside to meteorologist melissa magee who is in for adam and you're wearing a coat but it wasn't too cold today. >> yeah, it's really for aesthetics i just need it because i'm outside guys but as you mentioned it is certainly a mild start to our week here. numbers across the region as you take a look at the midatlantic region, it's 56 currently, 55 in the city, 52 in new york, 58 in washington, d.c. richmond 58. off to the west in pittsburgh 44 and 44 degrees in buffalo. so you look at the 24-hour

>> philadelphia police are hoping to generate new leads in a deadly hit and run that remains unsolved almost a year after it happened. it was december 23rd 2014 when 33-year-old theresa posey was killed. detectives say she was struck by a dark colored older model truck on state road in holmesburg. the driver never stopped. despite surveillance video from a nearby business, police have been unable to make an arrest here. >> friends and family are heartbroken still. pozzi family. our investigators are frustrated because we have little to go with. >> police today reminded the public that there is a $15,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the driver. >> the new year is going to bring new traffic problems for drivers who use the falls bridge in fairmount park. the bridge over the schuylkill will be closed for a month or

more for repair work but officials say that's only a temporary fix. john rawlins, he is live near the bridgeton night working the story and has more on the project and what it means for commuters. john. >> reporter: hi, sharrie, it's a temporary but an emergency fix that's in the works here. we should say that the city is waiting back, it should get its return on bids this week. we could not find a recent accurate account as to how many cars actually use that bridge. it is indeed thousands a day and those drivers are going have to find another way to get around. >> we're going to be posting a detour and putting out a press release with the detour route as soon as it's developed. >> reporter: last month city inspectors found problems with the falls bridge. you can't see the troubled areas, they are under the road surface where beams and bridge deck meet. >> it was -- yeah, there was rusting of the steel, corrosion of the connections and we are putting out an

emergency bid to reinforce these connections. >> reporter: the plan come february the popular river crossing will be closed to vehicles for 40 days. as special brackets are fitted under the bridge. drivers will have to find alternate east-west can ekes and likely longer commutes. >> depending on the the time of day in the morning it's probably going to cost me about an extra 15 minutes so it's kind of worrisome that they're shutting it down. >> reporter: the 121-year-old bridge is part of landscape the design o into motif. the boxy bridge has host add community fundraising today. it's become more than a bridge to some. >> i would say the falls bridge is the symbol of the neighborhood at this point. people love the bridge. >> reporter: well, the city is also committed to the bridge. the 40 day closure should yield a temporary fix so the bridge can have a full restoration five or six years down the road.

rival and offered to sell $1.25 billion worth of existing contracts to ease concerns it would end up controlling too much of the office supply market. but the federal trade commission recenter. >> plan without making a counteroffer and that raises serious questions about the future of that deal. well, wall street had this to say about business today, pretty good stuff. the dow up 123 points on the day, the nasdaq also up just about 46 points. the s & p up just about 15 and a half points on the day. >> other news that was up the box office numbers are in for "star wars the force awakens" and it is safe to say the force is strong with this one. the movie raked in an estimated $238 million in its opening weekend. that's the biggest ever for an opening beating out the previous record holder jurassic world by $30 million. it's also almost triple the previous record for a december opening. star wars is produced by disney which is the parent company of 6abc.

>> ♪ >> amtrak has activated safety technology between philadelphia and new york that advocates say can prevent derailments. the technology was recommended after that deadly wreck back in may that killed eight people and injured about 200. it's called positive train control and it uses gps to automatically stop trains that are traveling too fast entering a work area or are

about to collide with another train. the technology was already up and running on other parts of the northeast corridor. it was activated on the path from philadelphia to new york over the weekend. >> the borgata cass flow is asking a judge to order atlantic city the pay more than $62 million in tax refunds. the court has already ruled that the borgata is entitled money finding the city assessed the property too high. overall the city owes more than $150 million to the borgata. mayor don guardian says atlantic city could be forced into bankruptcy if it has to pay all at once. some of our coworkers here at 6abc got into the holiday spirit today. check it out. a group from our sales department spent the afternoon volunteering at philadbundance. they spent more than two hours working in the hunger relief warehouse sorting and packaging food donations.

were drawn for 6keno games. for more on what that means for those who, well, caught on, we went to "action news" reporter gray haul live in wilmington. high, gray. >> reporter: hi, brian. well, this is one of the places where you can get one of those keno lottery tickets and if you won big last week don't throw he that ticket away just yet because tonight the waiting game continues to see what happens if you'll get your money or not. sam patel owner of the convenience store in wilmington, delaware, says last week's glitch with the keno lottery game had business booming. he didn't realize something was wrong until a customer hit big. >> screaming again oh my god, oh my god, the same numbers are coming out again. well, at that point she got my attention. >> reporter: when the player realized the machine was selecting the same number over and over for each game, word spread like wildfire and other customers started buying up tickets. it's easy to placement you pick 10 numbers ranging from

'cause i mean if they're faithful keno player, they probably lost a lot of money so that was just their lucky day. >> reporter: delaware lottery officials posted this statement on its web site saying there was a malfunction in the keno game and it was working with its supplier to figure out what went wrong. lottery workers wouldn't confirm how much money was won, if the winners will be paid or how long this investigation will take. >> it shouldn't matter, it's not their fault and they're paying their money so are you

going to give their money back? >> reporter: lottery officials tell me some smaller prizes were paid out. those individuals are allowed to keep the money and again the verdict is out tonight for those larger prizes but we're told a backup machine is being used to generate those keno numbers. live in wilmington, gray haul channel6 "action news. >> let's see if their luck continues. gray, thank you. a septa bus driver has been suspended without pay all because of a video that's now circulating on the internet. this short instagram clip appears to show the route 57 driver pour water on a passenger then strike her in the face twice. septa police tell "action news" this happened friday while the bus was stopped near rising sun and duncannon offers in the city's olney section. officials believe the incident stemmed from a fare dispute. the woman in the video has yet to file a report. septa police are now asking

that passenger or anyone who knows who she is to contact them to help with their investigation. >> hm. philadelphia police are looking for a robbery suspect who targeted an accident victim earlier this month. the 25-year-old man was sitting in his car following a fender-bender near west tioga street back on december 4th. seconds later you see the suspect open his door and start punching him eventually climbing into the victim's car. the young man was able to escape but his assailant got away with an iphone 6 and a tablet. the victim was treated at temple hospital and released. if you have any information on this robbery he, please call east detectives. police in burlington county, new jersey, say at least three people were hurt when two cars collided in springfield township today. it happened in the 2700 block of route 206 just before 1:00 this afternoon. officials tell "action news" that one of the three people hurt was trapped for some time. police have not released a cause for the crash just yet or any information about the

extent of the injuries. >> pennsylvania law enforcement agencies are trying to improve the way they he share information with each other. today they showed off the latest technology at the lehigh valley regional intelligence and investigation center in allentown. the center offers a secure web base portal as a single access point where police can can search important information about suspect. the crime and delinquency is funding a technology update to allow the display of complex relationships between gang members and their affiliates. a family of seven forced out of their home by a fire in newark delaware this morning. firefighters sent us a picture of what it looked like when they arrived on the 200 block of edgehill drive. investigators say the blaze started in a bedroom when materials left too close to a space heater caught fire. two adults and five children live there but today only one person was home at the time.

in and out of the roadway inn here at 1208 walnut. they continue to look into what happened. here's what we know right now. just before noon a housekeeper made the discovery he in a fifth floor hotel room. police say a 75-year-old man was found lying on the floor face up with a cloth wrapped tightly around his neck. how that came to be is under investigation. now, it's unclear if there had been any other guests in the hotel room. detectives have been looking at surveillance footage to see if anyone else entered that room in the hours before the discovery was made. so far hotel staff and others have been questioned but no one has been taken into custody. as you can imagine, some hotel guests have been taken aback with all the goings on here at the roadway inn on walnut. so far police have not released the identity of the dead man as is routine in these investigations the medical examiner will conduct an autopsy he to try and figure out how that cloth ended up around the man's neck, was it a robbery gone bad
