christmas prayer at the st. peter about basilica. those stories, but first a look at the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast. it wasn't quite what i expected for christmas. >> reporter: it started out with clouds and the rain rolled on in. funny think, the last couple of days, you'll find this amusing. the last couple of days the high temperature was 70 degrees, the high on 4th of july was 76. christmas holiday we're talking about snow and cold here we were in record territory and temperatures feeling summer-like. 55 degrees, funny thing these numbers are much, much cooler than they've been over the last couple of days. it's well above the seasonal highly which is 42. 55 in wilmington, dover, 59. trenton, 52 degrees. most areas ranging anywhere from 5 to 13 degrees colder than the same time yesterday the

exception being the lehigh valley. again it is cooler out there this morning, but still very, very mild for this time of the year. satellite and radar, frontal system stalled out over the mid atlantic that means a day filled with cloud cover and patchy drizzle from time to time. mostly cloudy conditions, breezy, winds out of the northeast at 5 to 15 miles per hour. expect to see patchy drizzle from time to time but this is not a washout, not a rainout. 56 degrees, that will be the forecasted high. when i come back in just a little bit we'll talk about more rain chance unfortunately in the seven-day forecast. >> severe weather continues to wreak havoc down south. a tornado touched down in birmingham alabama, christmas day. severe storms hit several other states over the past couple of days leaving 15 people dead. >> reporter: a tornado touched down christmas night in birmingham, alabama smashing these homes into pieces.

heavy rains swamped roads. the death toll rising from arkansas to michigan clean up from a series of rare december tornados. the town of holy springs mississippi was torn apart by a tornado. michelle hudson lost her mother to the twister christmas eve. this shelter has become the new home of the town's christmas spirit. >> this is amazing. a lot of of had planned trips out of town to visit other loved ones and family members and of course the people you see here have given up their christmas gifts to help other people. >> reporter: this woman lost her home in bell view, mississippi. in atlanta, a 15-foot chasm opened up in the middle of the road.

just outside the drenched city a stalled christmas eve traffic on the highway. a white christmas in the midwest was poor timing for drivers headings home. unusual holiday scenes on the east coast, ice cream trucks and drivers out with record temperatures. >> i don't have to go to florida or california i'm fine right here. >> a man remains in the hospital, after being hit by a septa bus around 6:00 in west kensington. according to septa the man was hit by a route 60 bus. the bus did not stop. it possible that the driver did not know he hit anyone. delaware state police say alcohol may be the factor in a deadly christmas crash pulaski avenue in bear. a box truck drifted off the road

an on to the shoulder where it hit a tractor-trailer the trailer was empty and legally parked. the driver in the box truck died. police say 29-year-old man hit a pole and house yesterday morning on south broadway. he died at the scene. police say he was speeding at the time. there was something unusual in the montgomery county creek and local officials are trying to figure out what it is and how it got there. the "action news" cam found the white and chalky water in montgomery township. someone noticed the cloudy water yesterday morning around 9:40 and called 911. firefighters say whatever the substance is, it doesn't appear to be harmful. pope francis delivered his annual christmas message to the city and the world. the massive crowd gathered at the vatican to hear the pope's

the reason it's been so lousy the last several weeks, the wind flow is out of the south. this is the southern jet it comes from hawaii it is well out to the southwest. moisture loaded. we tap into the gulf, the atlantic and the pacific. everyday with the south/southwesterly winds we see clouds and showers, maybe a period of heavier rain. this pattern won't break until this upper level feature here gets north an east of the philadelphia area. that will happen by tuesday, we have more, unfortunately, gray and gloom often way. future tracker 6 we get into the the -- gray and gloom on the way. future tracker 6, we'll see lots of clouds, patchy drizzle from time to time, no heavy steady rains, just areas of fog, here's 4:00. 8:00, same thing, we get into sunday. sunday looks like we'll see

56 degrees outside, another mild day for us, 6:19. we're getting a look at what target's newest philadelphia store will look like. the company released these renderings, target will takes bn whole foods on pennsylvania avenue. this july target plans to open two other stores at 1th -- 12th and chestnut and 19th and chestnut. mcdonald's is testing out macaroni and cheese. they are offering it as a happy meals. officials say it is too early to tell when the mack and cheese option to be expanded. safety regulators in the u.s. have fined bmw $42 million.

everyone, 6:24 saturday morning, the day planner looks gray and gloomy and seattle like again. 55 degrees by 3:00 p.m. why so mild? jet stream has been looking like this, north of the line it's cold, south of the line it's mild. we have all this mild flooding the eastern seaboard. this time it's a little bit different. the cold that is sitting up here is finally starting to drift south and making its way through the rockies. this is cold stuff up here in northern canada. over the last couple of months the 30s and 40s below zero have been sitting here. a lot of this will drift to the south and make its way into the

news," breaking news, two people are hurt when shots ring out outside a philadelphia bar. fire drives a west philadelphia family from their home on christmas night. the eagles playoff hopes could all come down to tonight. they are facing washington in a must-win game. first, though, meteorologist chris sowers is here looking at the exclusive accuweather

seven-day forecast we're talking scores for the game. >> reporter: i wish i had a better score in mind. it's been a rough season. it's been a rough week weather wise. we've had a lot of clouds outs there and rain, if you take the rain we've seen over the last ten days, if it was cold enough and switch it over to snow, we would have 30 inches of snow on the ground. fortunately mild temperatures have kept it raining not the white stuff. 355 in millville. wilmington, dover, 55. reading, 51. allentown, 50. the poconos colder checking in at 41. satellite and radar, locked in once again, lots of clouds from pittsburgh all the way east to philadelphia. there are a few showers off to the northwest, as well. the frontal system sitting over top of us, that means another day full of cloud cover, the possibility of a little bit of rain, patchy drizzle, outside shot of a scattered shower.

not a rain day, yesterday evening where the steady heavy rains marched in. 56 degrees is the forecasted high. speaking of rain i hope you like it, because we'll see a lot of it over the next few days, tuesday, 30% chance, wednesday, 90% chance, thursday, 0% chance, friday, 60% chance. >> three people are rushed to the hospital after a shooting in feltonville two women were hit and are in stable condition. a man shot in the head in serious condition. police are on the scene. we'll have more coming up in the next half-hour of "action news." bullets fly outside a bar in philadelphia tioga nicetown section of the city.

shell casings were found on the scene. two men were kicked out of a bar and rushed a short time later. one fired 16 shots at employees and patrons standing outside the bar. one hit a customer in the ankle. armed security guards returned fire. minutes later a man showed up at einstein hospital with a bullet wound to the stomach. >> we believe the male was connected to the incident. we don't know if the male is suspect or if he was a patron here when the shooting occurred. >> that man was rushed into surgery and listed in critical condition. the security guards have permits to carry guns and cooperating. a christmas fire destroyed a west philadelphia family's home. it broke out after 10:00 p.m. along the unit block of north

58th street. 6 people including some children were home at the time. thankfully everyone was able to make it out safely. fire investigators are trying to determine what caused the blaze. the day after christmas is typically known for long lines at the return counter, but savvy shoppers know it's the best day to grab holiday discounts. expect big bargains on winter clothing and outer wear. you'll see deals on wrapping paper and audio equipment. for the early shoppers, the doors open early. walmart and pennies open at 6:00 a.m., starting opens at 7:00. many stores are slated to stay open well into the evening. drivers across the area got the gift of cheap gas this christmas. prices are averaging $2 nationwide, the lowest in years. jeff chirico spoke with drivers

stabbed one of his relatives on christmas morning in new castle. the 47-year-old victim was stabbed in the torso and the arm. the suspect, the relative ran off before investigators arrived. the victim was taken to nearby hospital to undergo surgery. any one with information call new castle county police. an alleged arsonist set the fire at the childhood home. bill clinton. the damage is minor contained to one room. a driver saw flames shooting from a window and called for help. investigators noticed the smell of an accelerant leading them to rule this suspected arson. the home is a national historic site. president obama is spending his christmas vacation in hawaii, the president and first lady michelle stopped by the marine corps base.
