last couple of hours. every morning for the last week we've been waking up to patchy dense fog. that's the story this morning, it is dry and breezy and cooler. the temperatures are cooler than where they have been. 12 miles per hour in philadelphia. 10 in millville. sea isle city, 14 miles per hour but you have gusts at 20 to 25. 55 in philadelphia. 54 in millville. sea isle city 54. allentown, 50. trenton, 52. the poconos checking in at 41. satellite and radar, cold front slipped through overnight that allowed the temperatures to drop off a little bit. really when you look at the big picture, 56 degrees is still well above seasonal averages this time of the year. 42, 43, breezy with patchy drizzle today a lot of cloud cover, 56 degrees, that will be the forecasted high, look what

happens for tomorrow. we get into the all time reblgd territory. the norm -- record territory. the normal is 62. the record is 64. we're forecasting 70 degrees. all time high was 73 on december 5th years and years ago. we're getting into the uncharted territory. after tomorrow's 70 the pattern changes a little bit. we'll see cooler numbers march in here, it's a good bet you won't see 60s and 7 0s for quite sometime. severe weather continues to wreak havoc down south. a tornado touched down in birmingham, alabama on christmas day, several other storms pass through leaving 15 people dead. >> reporter: a tornado touched down christmas night in birmingham, alabama heavy rains

swamped roads and automobiles. the death toll rose as arkansas and michigan cleaned up after storms. michelle hudson lost her mother to the twister christmas eve. this shelter has become the new home of the town's christmas spirit. >> this is amazing, a lot of us had planned trips out of town to visit other loved ones and family members, of course the people you see here have given up their christmas gifts to help other people. >> i don't know how i'm alive. it's a christmas miracle. >> reporter: in atlanta a 15-foot chasm opened up in the middle of road. >> some people had just crossed it and they could hear it pop.

a wonderfully white christmas in the midwest was poor timing for drivers heading home. >> this is insane. >> reporter: some unusual holiday scenes on the east coast, ice cream trucks and joggers out with record-high temperatures. >> i don't have to go to california or florida, i'm fine right here. >> a man remains in the hospital after being hit by a septa bus. it happened 6:00 p.m. on allegheny avenue. according to septa the man was hit by the route 60 bus. the bus did not stop. it is possible that the driver may not have known he hit someone. police are working with septa to find the driver of the bus. delaware state police say alcohol may be a factor in a deadly christmas morning crash it happened on pulaski highway in bear. a box truck drifted off the road on to the shoulder where it hit a tractor-trailer.

the trailer was empty and legally parked. the passenger in the bobbing truck died. the driver was taken to the hospital, there is no word on his condition. a man is dead after a crash in pennsville, new jersey. police say 29-year-old steve mcgraw of pennsville hit a hole and house on south broadway. he died at the scene. police say he was speeding at the time. there is something unusual in a creek in montgomery county. now local officials are trying to figure out what it is and how it got there. the action cam found the white and chalky water in park creek regiscy drive in montgomery county. someone noticed the water and called 911. firefighters say whatever the substance is it doesn't appear to be harmful. pope francis delivered his annual christmas message to the city and the world. a massive crowd gathered at the vatican to hear the pope's

prayers from the balcony of st. peter's about basilica. he touched on the brutal acts of terrorism that hit paris and the downed plane in egypt and denounced the monstrous evil astroft suffered by the people -- atrocity suffered by the people of syria. >> we pray to the lord to halt the cache of arms in syria and the remedy the suffering of people. >> to the faithful the holy father issued a plenary indulgence. queen elizabeth reminded people that jesus' love was one

of forgiveness. the holiday spirit is strong in germantown section. philadelphia police teamed up with santa claus to make the season bright for families in need. ray hall has that story. >> reporter: for the special occasion santa ditched his reindeer and sleigh for a police cruiser. office took on the role of santa and collected toys for those in need in the community. these families are selected by politicians and family members and concerned citizens. >> this is christmas. the key is about giving. it's not receiving. this right here touches ply heart. >> reporter: you mean imagine the alarm when police department showed up in the neighborhood with lights on and sirens blasting, it's christmas. these officers are spreading holiday cheer. >> making somebody happier. somebody who didn't know where

left stranded after his car caught fire on christmas day. santa was trying to climb a snowy hill when his car overheaded. he got out safely, but left without transportation. a family loaned him their there car so he could finish his delivers. he said he was touched by the kindness. keeping track of your health isn't easy these days, especially if you have several doctors. a few simple steps could keep you organized. >> mother nature provided a sight in sue city -- souix city. >> reporter: we have rain out to the west as we head into the

62 degrees, this number is deceiving. that happened after midnight. from this point on the temperature will hold in the mid 50s. the low temperature this morning is the present temperature reading of 55 degrees. slatington, 51. quaker torn, -- quakertown 48. hockessin 53. buena, 54. cinnaminson, 53 degrees. we have a frontal system stuck over the mid atlantic. it is not moving from pittsburgh to philadelphia and like most fronts this will act as a focal point for more showers over the next 24 to 48 hours. as long as that front sits over top of us, we can't get rid of the clouds. we'll allow for a chance of wet weather from time to time. it will be very, very light. most of it in the form of patchy drizzle. the water vapor image, what i am showing you this is the 0 southern branch. jet stream, this is called the

pineapple extension it extends to hawaii. it is a plume of moisture coming off the pacific. it taps into the gulf and the atlantic. that's why it's been so wet. as long as the pattern remains south and norse, we'll continue to see the dreary conditions. next week. winds will shift in a northerly direction. it will bring colder air in, and it will shut off the faucet and we'll get very little rain. cloudy skies, patchy drizzle expected throughout the day thinking into the evening hours. there's a possibility of a brief shower, nothing remotely close to yesterday's downpour or yesterday's evening. tomorrow morning there could fog to start, otherwise sunshine by afternoon, 2:00, sunday afternoon that allows the temperatures to get into the upper 60s and low 70s.

8:00 p.m. there could be a line of thunderstorms developing these could produce drenching downpours. the pattern beyond sunday, even though it will be cooler, it is still very warm for this time of the year up and down the eastern seaboard. we get into next weekend it cools off. breeze request and cooler in the lehigh valley, showers are late, otherwise it's a cloudy day and patchy drizzle. 52 degrees in allentown. jersey shore, shades of gray, cloudy skies, breezy, 57 degrees is the forecasted high for atlantic city. for philadelphia, 56 this afternoon, mostly cloudy can drizzle. winds are light out of the northeast at 5 to 15 miles per hour. overnight tonight maybe a few evening showers, cloudy, patchy fog, 52 for center city, 46 degrees for the outlying suburbs. 56 degrees today. 70 tomorrow, very warm, shower late in the day.

>> reporter: welcome back everyone, 7:25 saturday morning, time for the travel forecast. satellite and radar, we have activity over the lower 48. we have a big storm developing around dallas. this will be a hefty snowstorm that will cut north into the great lake states. by the time we get into tuesday or wednesday it's up into canada. snows fly on the backside of this. take a look at what the model is predicting here. over the next 3 days we'll see 12 to 24 inches. if you're traveling to amarillo, wichita, omaha. denver they will see snow. this whole area blanketed with winter white. it will stenlt into the great lakes, minneapolis, green bay will see hefty snows. you get into the southeast, places like atlanta at houston, kentucky temperatures in the 60s and 70s. we won't worry about any winter

bar. two men were kicked out of the bar at 1:00 a.m. the men left and returned a short time later. at least one jumped out of a car and fired 16 shots at employees and patrons standings outside the bar. one hit a customer in the ankle. armed security guards returned fire. minutes later a man showed up at einstein hospital with a bullet wound to the stomach. >> we believe the male was connected to the incident. we don't know if the male was a suspect or if he was a patron here when this all occurred. >> that man was rushed into surgery and is in critical condition. the security guards have permits to carry guns and cooperating. breaking, four people are hurt after a shooting at a feltonville social club 5:30 a.m. on the 4200 block of mcalster street. gunfire broke outside.

february. in wynnfield, jeff chirico channel 6 "action news." >> dozens of people are still without power after power lines caught fire in the west oak lane section of philadelphia. the action cam was there as the wires burned near 17th and 67th avenue. it happened before 9:30. 500 homes and businesses were left without power. that number is down to 70. there's no word when power will be fully vee stored. new castle county police are trying to find the man who stabbed one of his relatives. the 47-year-old victim was stabbed in the torso and arm. the suspect ran off before investigator arrived. the victim was taken to a nearby hospital to undergo surgery. anyone with information call new castle county police. police in delaware county are searching for a gunman. authorities were called to remington street in chester

atlantic city, more than 3 inches. wilmington, closing in on 3 inches. the numbers are over the past ten days, trenton 2.46. allentown, 1.9 5. if you want to figure out how much snow that would be. the ratio is ten to one. one inch of rain equals ten inches of snow. 32 inches in atlantic city. 30 in philadelphia. the pattern is damp over the next 3 to 5 days, we could see another inch or two of rain. that's four or five inches total. 55 degrees, dewpoint, 39. winds out of the northeast at 1 miles per hour that's allowing the temperatures to drop of a a little bit. we're not seeing the warm southwesterly breeze. yesterday highs in the upper 60s and low 70s. winds speeds ranging from 35 to 15 miles per hour. again you see the direction here out of the northeast. this will help to keep temperatures a lot cooler today than where we've been over the
