what's going on down there, showers are moving our way later today, as well. chris sowers is here, we have another record breaker. >> reporter: we have record highs on the way, as well. let's get you outside and show you the view from philadelphia international airport. the visibility has been greatly reduced, in a lot of yairlings yairlings -- areas we're down to less than a quarter mile. fog should lift by 9:00 a.m., we'll see and clouds before showers move in this evening. visibility, 1.3 in allentown. 1 1/2 in reading, .3 in trenton. so obviously that's the big story this morning. here come the warm temperatures again. we cooled it off overnight and we're back up in 50 in wilmington, philadelphia, millville and dover. cape may, 51. warm front lifts northward

during the the course of the day, that allows temperatures to climb up into the low 670s again. satellite and radar you can see the shield of moisture lifting off to the north. we'll see the skies clear off by afternoon. by afternoon, 64 degrees, lunch, 2:00 p.m., 67. 4:00 p.m. there's another 6 degrees forecasting a high of 69. record-high temperatures expected across the board today. several rain chance in the seven day, forecast. even a little bit of sleet monday into tuesday, we'll talk about that, a colder pattern change in the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast. all coming up in ten minutes. >> developing this morning, death and destruction in texas. at least 8 people are dead after tornados swept through the dallas area and the latest round of severe weather to strike the south. police say five people died in

garland, mainly in car accidents. three others are confirmed dead in collin county. homes were reduced to rubble and two churches were obliterated. one woman who was home with the kids said she heard a noise she never heard before. >> my kids are screaming at me, mom are you okay. i schemed at them, that's all right, all the glass that was before, all the glass was like crack crack all over the place. >> severe weather has been sweeping across the south since wednesday. within 2 dozen people have been killed. gorng weekend will have more on -- "good morning america" weekend will have more on the severe weather coming up after "action news." we'll have more from abc news in the next half-hour. the eagles had their playoff hopes crushed in front

of their fans. desean jackson and the washington red since beat up on the birds 38-24. it cost the eagles the playoff berth and gave the ed -- redskins the nfc crown. kurt cousins racked up a season best. afterwards desean jackson had this to say. >> i don't know why the fans hate me so much here, it wasn't my decision for them to let me go, i did nothing but great things for this community. there can't be no other better way to get the win for the second year in a row. >> ducis rogers met the eagles after a tough night in a

front of the house, she ran it over and it got stuck under the car. so she only made it two blocks. >> the driver got out of her car and went to her home a few blocks away. police caught up with her at cooper university hospital. all five people living inside the home were not injured. new in the overnight, philadelphia police are working two shooting scenes a half block apart in overbrook. a 15-year-old boy was shot on lead street. the 911 calls came in and he was rushed to penn presbyterian in critical condition. another boy was shot in the arm he is in stable condition. police have not made arrests and have not said if the shootings are connected. >> customers have until thursday to claim refunds for

our temperatures go, kind of a mixed bag. >> like the movie groundhog day, it's the same thing every single day. you wake up to fog and clouds, by afternoon we get temperatures into the 60s and 70s. let's get you back outdoors and show you what's going on. there you go, atlantic city, your guess is as good as mine. that's the view in atlantic city. you get the idea the fog has settled in pretty thickly across the area. visibility has been reduced to less than a half mile across a large portion of the viewing area. drive slowly and take it easy on the roads. the fog will lift around 9:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m. from that point on we'll go combination of sun and clouds, or more clouds than sun. temperature, 50 degrees. disappoint, 48. winds out of the southwest at 6 miles per hour.

right now we're seeing a visibility of half mile for philadelphia and wilmington. .3 in trenton. reading, 1.5 and millville, 3. along with the lousy visibilities we're seeing warmer temperatures. 53 in wilmington. trenton, 52. dover, once the warm front crosses the area, all the moisture heads north along with it. the skies will open up a little bit later this afternoon. satellite and radar, the warm front is sitting right about like this, and again, the idea is for this front to be lifting to the north during the course of the day. it is somewhat chilly up here right now. as the warm front lifts to new england, the milder temperatures start to take over here, we get into monday, the warm front returns through the area in the form of a cold front.

what's happening the front keeps going like this over the next several days. big storm system heading out of dallas. if you watched the sun bowl in he will el paso, texas. they had blizzard conditions across western texas. that heads to the north tonight and tomorrow. heavy snow flies across the western great lakes and the heartland. heavy rain for the tennessee and ohio valley. for us it will be rain. as it matches in here, temperatures could be cold enough across the lehigh valley it could start out as a mixed bag, sleet before going over to rain. the front lifts in the form of a warm front and drops into a cold front. we'll have showers and thunder overnight this evening. tomorrow, partly cloudy skies, combination of sun and clouds, the clouds lower and thicken. tuesday morning, there's the mixed precipitation for the lehigh valley.

arsonist set a mosque in houston on fire. it happened on christmas. it appears the fire started in more than one spot.

the fire heavily damaged the mosque and neighboring pharmacy. a 55-year-old woman is ded after accidently shot by chicago police yesterday. it started when officers were called out to a domestic disturbance involving a 19-year-old college student. police say the responding officers were confronted by the combative subject. relatives say jones who lived downstairs for him was a mother of five and hosted a family for christmas. the department extended their deepest condolences. rahm emanuel said anytime afternoon officer uses force, there are calls for the circumstances. we all grieve the loss of life. a site seeing bus in

san francisco was hit by an suv. seven people on the bus were treated for minor injuries. another person was treated at the scene. the driver of the suv was cited for making an improper lane change. a family from wisconsin received a christmas gift of a lifetime. a new home. a few days ago the fire destroyed the home the family rented with their three children. she was months away from buying the home. the safire destroyed everything. so the city along with several organizations came together to purchase another for berks and her family they charged her one dollar for the house keys. >> to see everybody coming together to help is wonderful. >> you will receive this house for one dollar. >> shell receive $20,000 for renovations into the home. it will be ready for them to move in in february.

>> reporter: welcome back everyone, 6:24 sunday morning. time for the travel forecast. we'll start out with satellite 6 and radar. as you travel into the ohio valley we have a period of rain swifting marching through. we'll zoom into the south across the lonestar state of texas. this area it was a nightmare of severe weather, you can see all the lightens strikes taken in 15 minute increments. we have snowstorms across the panhandle of texas where they will pick up 6 to 18 inches of snow.

all this is lifting to the north. some of the major hubs will be affected later on. snowfall totals, tuesday, heavy batch, this is monday, tuesday this lifts into new england, places like maine, vermont, new hampshire will get 18 to a foot of snow. it will be the corn belt through texas that will see this today. the weather is starting to effect some of the areas. boston, raining 45 degrees. chicago, colder, 37. quiet in or handle doe and atlanta -- orlando and temperatures in the 60s. local shop owners have had their gifts on display at love park since thanksgiving. you can grab a sweet treat and check out the light display anytime between 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. the eagles won't be going to the playoffs.

fog advisory. be careful as you head out this morning. many are returning home from their holiday getaways today. a fire truck and car collide in wilmington. >> eagles fans are not happy this morning. the birds bounced from playoff contention on their home field. >> it is now 6:30 kind of a brutal day isn't it?

>> reporter: we can't catch a break, the eagles lose, the weather has been losing. there's the view we'll get you outside, we're looking live at penns landing. the only good news is temperatures will be well up into the 60s again today. we're talking about record highs. otherwise that's what it looks like out there right now. take your time, maybe put that second pot of coffee and just kind of relax. the visibility is reduced. less than a quarter mile in parts of the area. it is making it very difficult out there. temperatures are mild, 50 degrees, the normal high for this time of the year which occurs around 3:00, 4:00 is 42. millville ten better than that. sea aisle city, 52 degrees. it will get warmer, you see this red squiggly line here. it's 65 degrees already in charleston and pittsburgh.

all that warmer air is punching north over the next several hours. accuweather says mostly cloudy after morning fog. you'll see sunshine, it will be a warm day high of 68 degrees, that will shatter the record of 64 which was set back in 1949. looks like another nice day temperatures wise, sun sets 4:43. you get the idea going hour by hour, limited sunshine. the warmer we'll be the higher the number gets. we'll have sleet in parts of the area tomorrow, when i come back i'll talk about that and the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast. >> eagles fans are dejected after eagles loss at the linc. desean jackson and the redskins

police are investigating a crash at easton and county line. the driver of the car broadsided a tractor-trailer. the car flipped around and hit a tractor-trailer a second time. two people inside the car were trapped. authorities say one of them was pronounced at the scene. another was taken to abington memorial hospital with serious injuries. the victims have not been identified. police are trying to determine who was at fault. new overnight, a wilmington fire truck was involved in a crash on the way back from a call. it -- the car made an illegal turn and hit the truck around 11:00. the death toll rose to 8 in texas where tornados unleashed it's if fury. >> it was another round of brutal weather around the christmas rush. there's another weather threat

downstream. a major winter storm is about to strike this central u.s. with the greatest threat of severe weather over parts of texas. my monday morning expect ice and freezing rain to cause travel trouble. for now storm victims are clinging to the christmas spirit. >> the sun is shining maybe this is the beginning of something better. >> reporter: which you can severson, abc news, new york. >> breaking news out of mowment mowment -- mount laurel, new jersey. crews were called out from can't berry road where flames were shooting out of a vacant house. no word on any injuries or what sparked the fire. this home apparently had an issue with squatters there's an active gas leak. crews are on the way to shut off

city. you can't see hardly anything in the picture right now. >> dense fog and high temperatures once again. >> reporter: you would never know it was december. let's get you outside and show you the view here. the visibility is lousy. less than half mile in philadelphia. the surrounding suburbs are enjoying the same thing. double scan live, we don't have any moisture, this is mainly cloudy cover and fog. the radars will light up this evening, as a cold front slips through. in one or two areas you could see a quick-hitting thunderstorm in the afternoon and evening hours as the numbers skyrocket into the upper 60s and low 70s. right now, 51, not too shabby. the normal is 41 degrees. winds shifting out of the west/southwest. dense fog advisory remain in effect for visibilities reduced to less than a quarter mile.

we're down to a mile in philadelphia. .3 in trenton. 3 for mill, 1.3 in allentown. 45 degrees in the mountains. millville, 52. dover and sea isle city, 52. wilmington, 50. a little bit cooler across the far northwestern suburbs, lancaster and reading checking in at 48 degrees. the fog is ahead of the front once the front lifts through, the skies open up a little bit, the sun peaks through that allows the temperatures to get into the upper 60s and low 70s. look at the numbers across the western portions of the mid atlantic. pittsburgh, 65. charleston 65. the high temperature for both of those places is around 36, 37 degrees. we're nearly 30 degrees above average across that part of the area. satellite and radar, the shield of moisture lifting to the north. look at how far north the rain/snow line is.

this is trenton and quebec up here. it is farther north than those towns in the southern provinces of canada. it's unusual to see this kind of of stuff at this time of year. it's been that way for several weeks. temperatures upper 60s, low 70s. 4:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m., 67 or 68 degrees. we get into the evening hours, here comes the cold front then slipping through. we could get this broken line of showers, a quick-hitting downpour and thunder. the temperatures fall off behind the front. monday morning, we start out with sunshine, clouds on the increase again, monday night into tuesday here comes the next round of rain. the only difference this time around, temperatures are colder, north and west we're in the mid 30s. that's cold enough to start it off as mixed precipitation. you could be dealing with sleet in places like allentown and

for departure. they were told to evacuate after seeing smoke on the plane. the sparks were coming from a generator providing electricity to the jet while it was still on the tarmac. >> our crime fighters series relies on tips from you, that helps families get justice. we have two cases demonstrating just that. rick williams explains. >> reporter: a germantown serial rapist is behind bars thanks to an anonymous tip call to the citizens crime commission. >> numerous calls came in, three hits were obtained during the calls. >> reporter: those tips led to the arrest and conviction of 25-year-old antwan brown. in october he pled no contest to raping four underage girls in separate instances. he was seen on surveillance video riding a bike around before the attack. he faces a possible 320 years in prison when he is sentenced.

another tip led to two arrests in connection with a violent home invasion in chester county. 27-year-old zachary hales and john reeves are waiting trial for the attack of a korean war veteran. they stole cash and items and they fled in hails car. the citizens crime commission said there are two reasons why the anonymous system works. >> it works because we don't ask who they are. number two the money. if that's what it takes to be called we don't care, as long as we get the pepper trairpts off the street -- perpetrators over the street. for crime fighters i'm rick williams channel 6 "action news."

greater philadelphia helped families in need again this christmas. katherine scott was in wynnfield highlights as children picked up something special before santa arrived. >> reporter: she spotted a baby doll, soon it was in her arms. she picked out toys at the salvation army for her and her 5-year-old brother. it's been difficult to make ends meet. >> usually we can scrounge up the money to get the kids something, this year it wasn't happening. for the purpose of the first time she applied to be part of the toy give away from the salvation from greater philadelphia. once again is helping thousands of families celebrate christmas. all of the participants have preregistered. >> we don't want any child in
