there are a few showers passing by and at times a few sleet pellets mixing in as well. doylestown new hope pennington jenkintown as well as parts of chester county there is enough cold air a few thousand feet up to help bring down a couple of those icy pellets but not going to amount to anything in this area. as we look at temperatures, it is well above freezing, 43 philadelphia, 40 in reading, 43 in millville, even the lehigh valley 39 degrees but the poconos going have some concerns overnight tonight, even with some freezing rain with temperatures there below that freezing point. as we look at double scan live radar, low pressure between chicago, saint louis, we've got the cold front with some very heavy rain. that arrives for the morning rush tomorrow. but we're dealing with a warm front that is presently pushing through, mixing some of that cold air with that warmer air that eventually is going to take over. so, winter weather advisory goes into effect 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. for berks county, lehigh county, northampton county to the poconos. again some sleet here. the poconos some ice but even in this area, it will be

changing to rain by tomorrow morning. in fact, we've got a very warm ground in allentown and the lehigh valley. the last time it was below freezing december 21st so any of the sleet that falls overnight tonight you could see a little coating on the cars or the grass but not looking at on the major roadways or the sidewalks. we'll talk about how much rain to expect here tomorrow morning and monica, we'll also look at that seven day to see if we can get any full days of sun coming up in accuweather. >> all right, thank you sir. of course a lack of freezing temperatures means a lack of snow at area ski resorts. obviously bad for their business. it's been a slow start as well for penndot crews who are still gearing up for whenever wintry weather hits. "action news" reporter chad pradelli live in south whitehall township with that part of the story. hi, chad. >> reporter: hey, monica. within the past couple of minutes it began to rain here in the allentown area. earlier tonight we saw the penndot trucks loading up with salt. they'll be out on the roadways applying that salt if it begins to sleet.

it's really been an easy winter for penndot with these record temperatures, but for the ski resorts, it's been a difficult one. the young family thought they would have a few days of skiing and winter sports when they booked their getaway to bear creek mountain. instead they got this park lifts, bear ground an quiet lobby he. >> it was warmer yesterdayly we said the heck with it and we had a great time no matter what. >> we he did ping-pong, we did the hot tub, we did the pool, so we had a great time. >> reporter: bear creek public relations director jeff calls this winter one of the worst for seeing in his 10 years with the company. mother nature hasn't cooperated with record temperatures. >> luckily for us we have diversified our business offerings over the years so we have a full service spa two restaurants a hotel so we have other things to offer here. >> reporter: this winter lab a reprieve for penndot. the salt supplies are high, the crews rested. they will be out tonight watching for any possible sleet here in the lehigh

sitting in the kitchen of her lacy township home last night when this however board she brought as a christmas present for her son craig made a crackling noise and burst into flames. >> we just heard a loud bang and pieces new like a bomb. it just -- then it just went up in flames. >> i was just like 2 feet away from it and all i see is it burst and then it was in flames. i got really scared. >> reporter: the battery on the hoverboard exploded sending projectiles flying through the house burning the can kitchen floor and the carpet where it was charging. the living room is covered in residue left from the fire extinguisher used to smother the flames. these pair of pants were insides this yellow he plastic bag next to where the hoverboard exploded. they are shredded. kim wonders what would have happened if craig had been on the board when it exploded. >> if law on top of. that it would have been like a land mine. >> i will say immediately do not let your kids ride this thing. it is so dangerous. i never imagined any toy could below up like that. >> reporter: she bought it

on amazon.com which has pulled several models because of faulty batteries and plugs. 16 fires have been reported nationwide. fire officials suggest charging hoverboards outside house if you can. >> obviously that's the only way they're going to work but certainly do not charge them inside the house until somebody knows what the problem is. >> reporter: shelley jones of manahawkin but a hoverboard for her teenaged daughter who's have mastered riding with friends and she still charges the battery inside her house but monitors it constantly. >> we keep it plugged in here on a tile surface. we've seen a lot of fires happening when they're charged on carpet. >> reporter: the consumer products safety commission is looking into the incident and while hoverboards are the hot new toy this christmas season for the whelan family it was a little too hot inform lacy township, i'm nora muchanic, channel6 "action news." >> two suspects in custody after police say they attacked a montgomery county man with a wrench and a brick. officials say about 11:20 sunday night 44-year-old

sergio he gullo and emi oka targeted a car in elkins park. the can car's owner confronted them. police say that's when the suspects beat the victim before fleeing. the victim was able to pull a cover off of the vehicle's registration plate and still identify it to police. those suspects were caught a short time later. a driver struck and killed a pedestrian on the roosevelt boulevard this morning. it happened about 5:30 near harbison avenue in northeast philadelphia. police say the driver had the green light and tried to swerve to avoid the pedestrian. williams say the driver is a local doctor and stopped immediately to help the victim. no charges are expected. police have not yet released the identity of that victim. trenton police say a fight over money led to the stabbing of four people. police arrested 31-year-old lashanda felton in connection with the incident. investigators responded at about 11:30 last night. felton faces three counts of aggravated assault and various

weapons charges. one victim refused treatment. police say three others were taken to the hospital where they were treated for lacerations and then released. now to the latest in the saga of the case against monsignor william lynn. today the philadelphia district attorney says he does want the court to rehear that case after lynn's conviction was overturned for a second time. "action news" reporter john rawlins live in center city tonight with the latest now. john. >> reporter: hi, monica. well, this latest retrial order came down from a superior court, three person superior court panel just before christmas. today the d.a. is vowing to fight back as for keeping monsignor lynn behind bars at this point in time he says his office will do all it can do. >> especially when an institution uses institutional power to shield pedophiles. >> reporter: and that is what the d.a. says monsignor william lynn did, protect a pedophile by covering up sexual abuse claims. in 2012, a philadelphia jury agreed. but last week, by a vote of

two to one a three member superior court panel overturned that conviction ordering a new trial for lynn. it decided lynn's trial judge allowed the jury to hear he too much evidence concerning prior bad acts or coverups from a time before lynn had any actual authority to assign priests in the 1990's. the appellate finding the sheer volume of those prior bad acts could have unfairly prejudiced jurors against lynn. seth williams today vowing to fight the move for a new trial. his plan to ask the full superior court to revisit and review the issue. williams saying the prior bad acts were brought in so jurors could understand the ongoing pattern of how the church traditionally dealt with some abusive priests. >> so, we had to show all these other acts, all of the things that showed monsignor lynn knew how dangerous it was to put a pedophile into a school with children. so we had to show all those other bad acts.

if not, the defendant, he has a great attorney, his defense attorney at trial would say well he wouldn't know what would happen. >> reporter: well, the superior court has 60 days to respond. if it declines, the d.a. said he would then move to the supreme court with this issue. in the meantime monsignor lynn remains in pries ton servin pria three he to six year sentence. his attorney asked that he be given bail as they await the possibility of a new trial. live in center city, john rawlins channel6 "action news. monica. >> pennsylvania governor tom wolf to expect to announce tomorrow what he plans to do with a budget bill that has been sitting on his desk since christmas eve. wolf must decide whether to sign the spending plans which falls hundreds of millions of dollars short of what he wanted but his signature would end a six month old stalemate. lawmakers could not agree on a bipartisan bill. instead they sent a package

rush hour. as we look at double scan live radar we're dealing with some light rain and a few sleet pellets at times. you could see it is very scattered at this point and most of this is now lifting to the north and east of philadelphia. this is just the very onset of the precipitation and there is enough cold air a few thousand feet up in the atmosphere to help pull down a couple of those ice pellets. i've been getting many folks saying in bucks county and parts of montgomery county yeah as this area of rain passed through there was some mixing of some sleet and that continues near new hope pennington and trenton. that will lift away and the warm air will start to win out overnight tonight. in fact it is still well above freezing no matter where you are. 39 in allentown, 40 in reading, 42 wilmington, 43 he in millville and the biggest concern will be north of the lehigh tunnel into the poconos. it's below freezing there and they could see some icing overnight tonight with freezing rain before it even changes to rain there. and most of the eastern half of the country dealing with some kind of wintry weather or

severe weather. we have low pressure that's coming up near chicago. that's going to send the warm air our way. we're still dealing with tornado watches in the panhandle of florida and ice and snow through much of the great lakes and eventually into the northeast. so, that winter weather advisory goes into effect about let's say 35 minutes from now for reading allentown northampton county into the poconos, sleet for most of our viewing area with ice up in the poconos before that change to rain. in fact by 7 o'clock when that expires, it's already 44 in reading, 41 in allentown, so he no icing issues for tomorrow morning's rush hour in this area of the lehigh valley it's the poconos that will still be below freezing and already in the 60's in southern parts of new jersey. 10 o'clock tonight, there's that sleet and ice to the north in the poconos, rain for most of us. it starts to fill in around midnight. still seeing that blue with there mixing in the lehigh valley. rain for the majority. and 4 o'clock in the morning, heavy rain developing.

even in allentown, starting to change over to rain there. and by 7:30, it is rain up into the poconos, heavy at times. there continues 10 o'clock tomorrow morning as a cold front starts to approach from the west and then westerly winds take over in the afternoon drying out some peeks of sun and temperatures really moving up. as we look at the rainfall totals between now and late tomorrow morning, around an inch 95 to the south and east. half anarch in the lehigh valley. ice that does accumulate in the poconos will eventually melt away to about a quarter to about a half inch of rain up there. day planner tomorrow, 48 at 7 o'clock in the morning with that rain. already near 60 by 10:00. into the 60's tomorrow afternoon with a few peeks of sun and still warm and dry by 4 o'clock in the afternoon so tomorrow evening's rush no problems. the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, morning rain for all tomorrow drying in the afternoon and warm. still a lot of clouds on wednesday, some afternoon showers at 57. we round out the month and the
