tuesday night, jim is off and i'm monica malpass. the big story on "action news" is chip kelly fired. fans were calling for it since the teams were eliminating from the playoffs over the weekend, but few, if any, actually saw this coming. hearing from shocked fans as part of our team coverage on this breaking news, and we are getting all sorts of reaction. and first ducis rodgers with the latest. >> without saying it, owner jeffery lurie has admitted that he made a mistake. maybe not with the hiring of chip kelly in the first place, but giving him full personnel control less than one year ago. kelly is out, a game short of three seasons on the job. his overall record, 26-21, not bad. but that does not tell the full story. after making the playoffs in his first season his teams have gotten worse. this year has been a disaster. 6-9 thus far with losses in five of the last seven games. many of those losses, blow-outs.

and then the personnel decisions. he parted way with several o pro bowel players, and some players he brought in look like busts. and we reached linebacker graham by phone and he was stunned. >> i was surprised because i really thought they was going to give him another, you know, off-season to prove himself after all the stuff that happened this past year as far as like the stuff that happened off the field. but, you know, i understand the business. but, you know, i just was kind of shocked. >> and as mentioned, a year ago chip was given full personnel control in charge of trades, signing and the entire roster. and he released or traded several key players. and owner jeffery lurie was probably in tune did our friends

at espn say the time something curious. >> something probably happened today, that's my speculation right now. something that happened that drove mr. lurie over the edge saying we have to make a change. >> i think jeffery lurie looked at this and said i don't like to see fans leaving the stadium early. i don't like the team moving in the wrong direction. obviously players unhappy in the locker room. but the timing i think is tied to the fact it gives the eagles an opportunity to go out and interview some of the assistant coaches like sean mcdermott the offensive coordinate your of the panthers. >> and lurie issued a letter to the fans in part "i made a decision to release chip kelly and evaluated the factors involved in our performance as a team. as i watch the season unfold i determined it was time to make a change." lurie says that he and others will lead the search for a new head coach. news conference tomorrow at noon

wants to win, so he's not going to keep the guys who are not producing. >> and how the shine on kelly's acumen dulled. arriving with his break-neck offense and the fans loved him. in chip we trust the mantra. >> and i think every fan wanted to see what he had to bring to the table and he didn't have much to bring to the table and needs to go back to college football. >> and listening to fans in the delaware valley, the message is clear. yeah, he lost the trust and respect of many of his players, but lost games. >> and i thought he would do something big, but never thought would he fall flat the way they did >> and there are many fans who believe that chip kelly needed a bit more time to get the players he wanted to run his system. as you guys know, the nfl can stand for "not for long" and chip kelly hasan -- had three

the so-called "affluenza" teen will return to the u.s. tomorrow. ethan couch and his mother arrested last night in puerto vallarta, mexico after being on

the run for weeks. couch was 16 years old when he killed four people, and he said affluenza prevented him from knowing right from wrong and given probation. and twitter video showed him at a party with alcohol and missed a probation hearing. >> and proceed in the juvenile sentence, the maximum sentence he will receive is four months of confinement. that, in my opinion, is not a sufficient punishment for the taking of four lives. >> authorities are now requesting to move his case to adult court. his mother also faces charges for hindering his apprehension and can face a maximum of 10 years in prison. flooding blamed for 18 deaths in the midwest. torrential rains pushed the already-swollen lives and streams to levels virtually unheard of in missouri and

scene's end. a 26-21 record in three years but the team progressively has gotten worse and worse after the playoff appearance following the 2013 season. kelly given full control of player personnel one year ago. his move, like trading lesean mccoy for kiko alonso and signing running back demarco murray, the moves have not worked out. the eagles' linebacker graham a bit surprised but understand how the nfl works and how it works here in philadelphia. >> especially being a part of this organization, where we have been winning and it's been a lot of good seasons with the team and traditions of the team, you have to come in right away and win. that's what the eagles know. and i understand he had three years and just didn't get it done. lurie released a statement in part that says "we appreciate all the contributions that chip kelly made and wish him every success going forward."
