coverage of this tuesday night blockbuster next. >> "action news," delaware valley's leading news program with jim gardner. a stunner from the philadelphia eagles tonight. chip kelly is out. the head coach has been sacked with one game still left in the season. two things are now for sure, the eagles will not be making the playoffs and the birds will have a new coach in the new year.

tuesday night, jim is off and i'm monica malpass. the big story on "action news" is chip kelly fired. fans were calling for it since the teams were eliminating from the playoffs over the weekend, but few, if any, actually saw this coming. hearing from shocked fans as part of our team coverage on this breaking news, and we are getting all sorts of reaction. and first ducis rodgers with the latest. >> without saying it, owner jeffery lurie has admitted that he made a mistake. maybe not with the hiring of chip kelly in the first place, but giving him full personnel control less than one year ago. kelly is out, a game short of three seasons on the job. his overall record, 26-21, not bad. but that does not tell the full story. after making the playoffs in his first season his teams have gotten worse. this year has been a disaster. 6-9 thus far with losses in five of the last seven games. many of those losses, blow-outs.

and then the personnel decisions. he parted way with several o pro bowel players, and some players he brought in look like busts. and we reached linebacker graham by phone and he was stunned. >> i was surprised because i really thought they was going to give him another, you know, off-season to prove himself after all the stuff that happened this past year as far as like the stuff that happened off the field. but, you know, i understand the business. but, you know, i just was kind of shocked. >> and as mentioned, a year ago chip was given full personnel control in charge of trades, signing and the entire roster. and he released or traded several key players. and owner jeffery lurie was probably in tune did our friends

at espn say the time something curious. >> something probably happened today, that's my speculation right now. something that happened that drove mr. lurie over the edge saying we have to make a change. >> i think jeffery lurie looked at this and said i don't like to see fans leaving the stadium early. i don't like the team moving in the wrong direction. obviously players unhappy in the locker room. but the timing i think is tied to the fact it gives the eagles an opportunity to go out and interview some of the assistant coaches like sean mcdermott the offensive coordinate your of the panthers. >> and lurie issued a letter to the fans in part "i made a decision to release chip kelly and evaluated the factors involved in our performance as a team. as i watch the season unfold i determined it was time to make a change." lurie says that he and others will lead the search for a new head coach. news conference tomorrow at noon

laid off at st. joseph's hospital. at the girard facility, workers found out the hospital closing march 31. it is consolidated with the girard medical center. none of the 400 jobs at girard will be impacted. the st. joseph's employees get job placement as well and counseling over the next 90 days. pennsylvania governor wolf's budget decision will send billions of dollars in desperately needed funding to schools, social services and county government. during the six-month stalemate many school districts borrowed money. some agencies forced to lay off employees and some counties threatened to withhold taxes. the democrat vetoed other parts of the republican spending plan and told the republicans go back to the drawing board. >> in doing this, i am expressing the outrage that all of us pennsylvanians should feel about the garbage that the republican legislative leaders tried to dump on us.

scene's end. a 26-21 record in three years but the team progressively has gotten worse and worse after the playoff appearance following the 2013 season. kelly given full control of player personnel one year ago. his move, like trading lesean mccoy for kiko alonso and signing running back demarco murray, the moves have not worked out. the eagles' linebacker graham a bit surprised but understand how the nfl works and how it works here in philadelphia. >> especially being a part of this organization, where we have been winning and it's been a lot of good seasons with the team and traditions of the team, you have to come in right away and win. that's what the eagles know. and i understand he had three years and just didn't get it done. lurie released a statement in part that says "we appreciate all the contributions that chip kelly made and wish him every success going forward."

in addition to kelly, they hired his right-hand man, ed marynowitz. a and offensive coordinator assuming duties against the giants. when chip kelly led practice today he likely had no idea how the day would end. earlier today, before the firing happened, jenkins addressed the heat that kelly was facing. >> i don't think any player on the roster can just look at chip and say this is all his fault. because he doesn't snap the ball. he is not out there tackling, out out there catching the ball. there is plenty of blame to go around when you look at plays that were left out there. dumb penalties, turnovers and missed tackles, and missed
