family is praying for his safe return. >> i don't even know what he's going through. like i'm really scared that something happened to him. >> reporter: she says she hasn't slept since her five-year-old brother jayliel vega went missing. police say the boy ran from a relative's house during a new year's eve party around 11:00 p.m. he will no coat and no shoes just a long sleeve camouflage shirt and gray sweat pants. his family says the boy is autistic and does not speak. while he's afraid of strangers relatives say he loves climbing and is drawn to bright objects. >> he likes lights, anything lights moving like especially like the christmas lights, that's an attraction. >> we're asking the public that if they do see him that they not call out his name, just to call us immediately for us to get there and try to assist him in get him safe. >> reporter: dozens of volunteers helped in the frigid search along the lehigh river and in nearby keck park.

a special vendor tracking dog was brought in. many of the searchers don't even know the boy. >> any time you see a child that's lost in the area it's really something you want to try and help out with. >> i have grand kids. so if it was one of mine i would want somebody to help. >> reporter: and police are urging people who live around here to check their yards porches sheds any potential hiding spots on your property. jayliel has brown hair and eyes been want to three and a half and 4 feet tall. if you have any information on his whereabouts you're asked to call police. we're live in allentown, trish hartman channel6 "action news." monica. >> thank you trish. 2016 got off to a dreary chilly start. temperatures hung in the 40's today with wind chills in the 30's. let's go to meteorologist adam joseph now with more on what's in store for the weekend. are these cooler temperatures going to stick around adam. >> yeah they're going to stick around. at least we gain the sunshine back. the clouds we've seen are finally moving out. as we take a look at the present numbers, 40 degrees in philadelphia, 39 right now wilmington and millville. mid 30's all points north and

west. the lehigh valley trenton right now 37 degrees and the poconos the snow guns are back on with temperatures there in the 20's. but you factor in the wind. we've dealt with this all day long. wind chills in the 20's right now reading allentown and lancaster 33, philadelphialy and millville and at the shore temperatures feeling like they are right around freezing. there you see the really thick clouds continue to push to the south and east off the coast. you're starting to see those clouds evaporate so to speak to the north and west and that will be the trend overnight tonight and even a couple of flurries breaking away from the great lakes that made their way as far south as the lehigh valley today. as we look at the forecast for tonight, clouds to stars, less wind, 26 degrees in allentown, 29 in trenton, 32 in philadelphia and 20's in interior parts of southern new jersey and future tracker wind chills once again tomorrow remaining in the 30's but again we're going to have full sunshine so it will feel a little better than it did

"action news" gray haul joins us live and today was no exception was it, right, gray? >> reporter: right, monica, no exception at all. the parade actually just ended a few minutes ago. as they do every year the mummers take over the streets this is the way thousands have been ringing in the new year more than a hundred years lining the streets of center city celebrating at the mummers parade. >> they can expect everything every year it's better and better. better and better every year. if this is your first year it's going to be your best

year. >> ♪ >> reporter:. >> that's a great tradition. great way to and the holidays and it's wonderful. >> reporter: those who show up say it is a sight to see, the young, the old even philly jesus came tout out to take part in the entertainment. many come year after year and the reason why it's clear. >> this is fun. [laughter] >> reporter: it's a one day event for most but the mummers work all year to make the floats and festive costumes all in hopes of winning first prize for best show. >> comedy division, i love the comics. i love the string bands and i used to stay out here all day. used to last eight, 9 o'clock at night. this is the 116th edition of the parade and for newcomers and regulars it is never a disappointment. >> this is our first time to the parade. we absolutely love it. it's a great tradition. we watch it usually on tv and thought we'd come downtown this year. >> we love seeing people have fun. it's fun. it's just a little bit crazy but family friendly.

>> reporter: if you missed out this year there's always next year. >> we want this to be a tradition every year. >> reporter: why. >> because it's a lot of fun. i like standing out here and watching it. >> happy new year! >> and that was gray hall reporting. thank you gray. long criticized for its lack of diversity and racial insensitivity the mummers did welcome a new division this year the puerto rican band was among the first in the philadelphia division to take to broad street this morning. the rush crossing smooth steppers and trenton showed off their talents. and a mexican heritage group showcased its own mummers-like tradition. but as in years past the mummers parade was still not without controversy. viewers took to social media voicing concerns of continued insensitivity. the comic division sparked backlash for the way it portrayed bruce jenner's trance formation into caitlin.

"action news" reporter john rawlins was there. >> reporter: the black lives matter actor 50's formed up in groups north and south of the parade's televised performance area at 15th and market next to city hall. >> what do we want. >> justice. >> when. >> now. >> reporter: the smaller of the two groups was north of market. protestors chanted for justice. signs referred to victims of police shootings and advocated for school funding. in an earlier release the group stated the had targeted

the mummers parade claiming it has a history of race is. >> reporter: protestors think their message was heard today. >> i believe that you are paying attention to us and if there hadn't been a mummers parade here you might have been somewhere else. >> reporter: one young protestor said some parade watchers actually joined the protestor effort today while others scoffed. >> unfortunately white power and material lidge runs this country so we have gotten a lot of negative comments from people telling us to get jobs get off welfare. they don't even know who we are and we haven't done anything to anyone. >> reporter: the other large are group of protestors moved south. they calm up at walnut street where they were greeted by bike patrol officers. >> protestors come down the street, police headed them off. >> reporter: they made a barricade with the bicycles. >> the protestors went back underground and returned to the parade route at locust treat. protestors briefly held up the parade. two people were arrested a 45-year-old man an 34-year-old woman. she was charged with disrupting a procession. he is charged with disorderly

conduct. police say the actual disruption was very brief. the overall protest lasted about two hours. the estimated number of protestors about 50. in center city, john rawlins channel6 "action news." >> fire damaged a row home in north philadelphia early this morning. the flames sparked at about 1 o'clock here in the 2200 block of north uber street. firefighters arrived to find flames coming from the second floor. crews had it under control in about a half hour. fortunately nobody hurt. the cause is still under investigation. a crash in west philadelphia did injure at least one person this afternoon. you can see two mangled cars here after the collision at the intersection of west girard and north 38th street. this one happened about 2:30. a 27-year-old man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. be prepared to pay more when you're traveling the pennsylvania turnpike. tolls do increase starting on sunday. officials say the tolls will go up 6 percent in 2016. that money will go towards repaying some loans that were

sexual assault a federal judge ordered cosby's wife camille to testify in a defamation lawsuit filed by seven cosby accusers. cosby spoke out for the first time since his arrest. he tweet antidepressant brief message saying "friends and fans thank you." brief makeover -- full makeover of the gallery in center city is about to begin. the east entrance to the mall on market street between eighth and tenth will close at 8 o'clock tonight. this marks the start of the revitalization project that mayor michael nutter signed off on this summer. the $325 million project will bring new shops restaurants and entertainment haven't use to the gallery which is largely empty this project creates at least 2,000 construction jobs and about a thousand retail positions will follow. the first baby born in the new year in our area came into the world in south jersey. madison was born at 12:01 a.m. todayst at virtua memorial hospital in mount holly she weighed 8 pounds. mom nicole and dad say they

the republicans in harrisburg were fighting each other over the state budget. that's right. each other. the republican state senate passed a responsible budget that "begins" to fund education but the republican house of representatives has insisted on a budget that fails to fund education and balloons the deficit. call your legislator, tell them to pass a budget that's right for pennsylvania.

forecast holds and they'll be able to make enough snow this weekend. we're definitely chilling out temperature-wise at least. >> good to see them cranking up. >> right. >> they'll continue through the week hopefully into the beginning of next week with arctic air coming in so maybe. >> cross your fingers. >> maybe you can hit the slopes early next week. as we take a look right now at double scan live radar mother nature helping us out with the cool temperatures but definitely not helping out in the form of any natural snow although we saw a couple flurries in the poconos this afternoon. as we look at the action cam which was down on kelly drive in parts of fairmount park you can see we've got some bikers and a die hard runner. you can see those branches swaying left and right. and in the way background you see a little pink as some of those cherry trees that blossomed in the month of december. as we take a look right now live also on sky6 at penn's landing you see the camera shaking left and right just a little bit. we've got the river rink a lot

of folks enjoying this is new year's day but definitely a distinctive chill in the air as those rinds really started to crank up out of the westerly direction. and what a temperature seesaw in 2015. at the beginning of the year in february if you remember last february temperatures ran close to 10 degrees below normal. there was a brutal and second coldest february in philadelphia's history. nature tends to try to balance herself out so at the end of the year temperatures swung up to 13.7 degrees above normal and that was horticulture warmth as those numbers were well above any december we have ever seen in city of philadelphia. 37 trenton, 36 allentown, 35 in reading, 39 in wilmington and millville and 40's from dover over to sea isle city with that ocean still very warm in the low 50's. wind chills 27 allentown and reading, 38 in wilmington, 33 in millville and wildwood. and just 19 that's all it

feels up in the poconos. satellite and radar finally we started to see those clouds evaporate rip apart whatever you call it. it's a beautiful site especially to the north and west. all the precipitation down to the south and east and even a few snow flurries coming in and snow showers off the great lakes. so tonight clouds to stars, less wind 26 to there for the overnight low. an abundant amount of sunshine the entire weekend. saturday and sunday westerly wind on saturday seven to 14 miles an hour and still a chilly breeze on sunday so despite you see 43 tomorrow and 46 on sunday the wind chills are going to remain in the 30's the entire weekend. it was a blow torch here most of december as that jet stream pulled way up into eastern canada moving those southwesterly winds our way and in fact 13 days we have high temperatures in the 60's and 70's. that's almost half the month of december. again what comes up must go down and that's going to happen here early in january as a chill pulls in with a straight shot of arctic air

coming in from eastern canada and that will bring highs only in the 30's. the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, great to see the sun here. full force saturday and sunday 40's feeling like the 30's. then with that arctic front on monday a lot of clouds and there could be a flurry or two for most of the region at 36 degrees but nowhere near anything that would accumulate and then on tuesday, it's full sunshine but that sunshine doing very little to warm us. the core of the cold's here, 31 for a high temperature. but it doesn't last long. we bump those temperatures back up into the 40's wednesday, thursday friday. thursday clouds thicken up ahead of another storm to arrive and at this point it looks like a chilly rain unfortunately so as of right now, we can't link that cold with the precipitation. >> all right, thank you adam. finally tonight, some folks in south jersey got the new year started on the right foot literally. january 1st a popular time for folks to hit the reset button and resolve to get healthy.

in mount laurel they ran a 5k fun run to kick off 2016. other took their workouts indoor. this was first of the commitment day at lifetime athletic. fun activity meant to jump start their healthy goals.
