it was an incredibly harrowing ordeal for 17 miners in upstate new york a reece cue in a town called lancing. the miners spent hours underground and today they are unarmed and called inspiring. big cheers as 17 miners finally saw the light of day. trapped nearly 900 feet below ground for nearly 10 hours. >> they persevered the best way they could, how they managed the situation. >> they started their shift at the biggest salt mind in the country near ithaca, upstate new york. when their elevator stopped working. for nearly 10 hours, the miners huddled together for warmth below ground while the workers worked feverishly aboveground.
