"action news" reporter christie lleto is live at hahnemann hospital with the very latest on the the story, christie. >> reporter: well, jim, police say the driver died this evening. the his three victims are here at the hospital. family members says venous brown and her daughter are lucky to be alive tonight. they were driving to meet up with family members when the suspect's car plowed straight into theirs. >> my niece told me that my sister wasn't breathing at first. so, we, my brother, we ran out of the house. >> reporter: they rushed to hahnemann hospital the moment their niece annette alerted them she and her mother venous brown had been in the head on collision on the boulevard extension. >> she said they were on a clear road and then she noticed this car coming at them, boom. out of no where.

it was horrible. >> it is horrible. >> reporter: chopper six caught moments after police say the 29 year-old suspect sped north in southbound lanes with his girlfriend's five two-year old mother in the back seat. seconds after crashing police say he tried to flee on foot. >> he jumped off of the overpass on to ridge avenue, which is about a 30 feet high drop. >> reporter: injuries to his leg and skull kept him from going any further. police say this all started as a domestic incident in the 4,000 block of germantown avenue. >> girl was running up germantown avenue screaming. >> reporter: this man did not want his face on camera but tells "action news" he gave the suspect's girlfriend his phone to call for help. >> her mother tried to get out of the car but birth friend pulled off before she was able to get out of the car. >> reporter: police believe the suspect was under influence of narcotics or alcohol at the time of the crash. >> i don't know how much she survived it. head on crash, i don't know how she survived it. just horrible. i'm praying that everything will be all right.
