>> despite serious wound to his arm, officer jesse hartnett emerged from his cruiser and fired back. so why has this become head line news across the country? because the gun man told police he acted in the name of islam and pledged a allegiance to isis. friday night, the big story on "action news" tonight is the big question: does 30 year-old edward archer, the man who has confessed shooting a philadelphia a police officer have ties to terrorist? the the the fbi is now investigating why archer may have traveled to saudi arabia in 2011 and egypt in 2012. police say there is no indication that anybody else, was involved in the ambush. "action news" reporter jeff chirico is live at penn presbyterian where officer hartnett is being treated but first lets go to dann waste air at police headquarters. officials are marveling over the fact that hartnett survived the attack.

else when he had to be. >> reporter: and, tonight, officer hartnett is in fair condition, but faces a long road to recovery. investigators continue to comb through evidence to see if the suspect had any direct ties, to isis. we're live at police headquarters, i'm dan cuellar for channel six a "action news". police raided two locations, connected to the suspect today. the as they work together to gather evident and pin down a motive. one was at 61st and pine just blocks away where swat officers a and a member of the bomb squad saved and served a search warrant. neighbors say archer spent time at the this home visiting a a relative who had recently moved out. the fbi searched the house for several hours and removed at least four boxes a and a bag. investigators also descended on the delaware county home where archer lived with his mother, on south mapel avenue in yeadon. the mayor of that small boro says archer was a known

criminal but reports of possible radicalization, came as a shock. >> he has a long criminal record, so he has a long rap sheet. so he has been on our radar screen and i believe he was scheduled to be in our county court next week for another incident. >> indeed that is right. archer pleaded guilty to charges in philadelphia from 2013 of assault and carrying a firearm without a license in delaware county, and he had recently been convicted of forgery, altering a document, careless driving and driving on a suspended license. in fact, archer had been set to be sentenced on those charges, three days from right now. on the suspect's background. in other news tonight, gunfire prompted a large police response in the kensington section of philadelphia, late this afternoon. police found on patrol and heard spots and spotted a car fleeing 600 block of allegheny avenue. they chased the car to f street and heard more shots as the car's occupants bailed out. two suspects were captured, one had been shot, police are searching for a motive and more evidence of the apparent gun battle. chopper six was over a river rescue tonight, philadelphia police pulled a man from the delaware along columbus boulevard. medics were waiting at the peer, washington avenue pier. authorities say the man was in good condition a as he was being transported to the hospital, officials say he had slipped and fallen in to the river but was otherwise okay. still to come on "action news" tonight a solemn candle light vigil tonight in memory of a pregnant mother who ran back to save her son from fire

dozens of people turned out to remember the lives of the pregnant woman and her child. they were killed in an early morning house fire in north philadelphia a. elizabeth perez and her two-year old son, nathanal, died inside the the home on the 2800 block of north fourth street. perez initially made it out but went back inside to save her little boy. neither made it out a alive. investigators found at least five portable space heaters inside the home. there were no working smoke

of indecent aggravated assault. the philadelphia water tenth wants to raise rates, beginning this summer. the utility filed a request for a hike of 11.7 percent, over two years. officials say that would raise the the typical household bill by $8 a month. they say it is needed because philadelphia has aging infrastructure, and suffered more than 900 water main breaks over a one year span, and that is the the highest total since 1996. if the hike ace proved by city council and the independent water rate board will go into effect on july 1st. all septa a police officers are now wearing body cameras. the program was launched, department wide, at the start of the new year. septa a shows off the technology at a news conference today. the officers will be expected to turn them on, while responding to radio calls, and during all of the interactions with the public while they are on patrol.
