arm severely injured gets out of the car and shooting back hitting archer. other officers responding to hatter -- hartnett's call for help arrived. fbi officials know he traveled to saudi arabia and egypt, but there's no evidence he has ties to terrorists. police say he shot hartnett because the officer defends laws that are contrary to the q'uran. he allah and that's why he did this. jesse hartnett is still in the hospital and will have to undergo numerous surgeries and physical therapy. police raided two locations connected to the suspect. one raid happened at 61st and pine street blocks away from the shooting scene. swat officers and members of the bomb squad served a search

warrant. the fbi searched the house for several hours removing four boxes and a bag. the last police officer shot and killed in the line of duty warning sergeant robert wilson who was killed protecting customers inside a north philadelphia game stop last march. he was buying a gift for his son when he stopped two armed men from robbing the store. sergeant wilson was killed during the fire fight. the two suspects who are brothers are awaiting trial. and nor time, 7:04. we have learned that the suspect was no stranger to police. yesterday investigators searched the home in the yeadon delaware county, where edward archer lived with his mother. "action news" learned he had a long criminal record and due to be sensed on charges in delaware county. the reports of possible radicalization came as a surprise. jeff chirico has reaction from the muslim community. i would like to say we are

sorry that another philadelphia police officer was injured in the line of duty. >> reporter: muslim leaders in west philadelphia compressing sorrow and disavowing the shooting of a police officer in the name of islam. outside the mosque, imam with 18th police district by his side, he said the shooting is not conducive with islam. this is a public mosque we have people from all over the city that comes here he may have attended here, but, again, has no reflection on the way away feel and the way we interact with the police department. it was an assassination from the beginning to the end. >> reporter: the images of the shooter approaching jesse hartnett's cruiser haunt police officers. everybody wants to feel good about everybody and the black lives matter, all lives matter our police officers

officers lives matter we better start paying attention to it. >> reporter: at a beef and beer fundraiser in south philadelphia, many police say it makes them more nervous, but just at dedicated. our lives are in danger everyday, but we help the community. are the officers more on edge do you think? [inaudible]. you approach people with a little more caution and respect, also. the philadelphia police department has issued a new safety measure, all officers patrol two to a car at least for the time being. jeff chirico channel 6 "action news." and in response to the shooting of officer hartnett, the nypd urging its officers to be extra vigilant. for more than a year, the department has been warning officers that their uniform or official insignia makes them a target. in december 2014 two n qulvment

police say 26 shots were fired in the 800 block of north 49th street in west philadelphia. some of the bullets struck the man in the head. he was pronounced at penn presbyterian hospital. investigators do tell us, that narcotics were found on the scene. police are still searching for the gunman. philadelphia police are looking for a gunman in a shooting outside a bar. a man was shot in the face and chest and arm and lift critically injured. the 911 calls came in around 11:45 last night on north 6th street in north philadelphia. the victim was rushed to temple university hospital. investigators are trying to find the motive. you can be paying more or water. philadelphia water department has filed a request for a hike of 11.7% over two years and that would raise the typical bill by $8 a month.

dann cuellar has more on the investigation. >> reporter: we are learning from sources that the suspect traveled to the middle east saudi arabia in 2011 and egypt in 2012 and converted to islam. the question fbi and police investigators are trying to answer is whether or not he had been in contact with radical muslims. the ten seconds of terror were captured on police surveillance camera. the suspect heading toward jesse hartnett and fires off a dozen shots. reaches into the car with a gun and runs away. the officer manages to radio in. that is chilling, absolutely chilling when you watch that. police officials stunned by the images of the brazen attack. if that doesn't make the hairs on your neck raise when you see that it's scary. >> reporter: even though he was badly wounded the officer gets

out of the patrol car and fires back and strikes his attacker three times. officer did strike the male, we'll need another unit. the bravery he demonstrated was absolutely remarkable. his will to live undoubtedly saved his life. >> reporter: police say the suspect edward archer told them he ambushed jesse hartnett in the name of isis because the police follow laws that do not follow the q'uran. police say the gun was stolen from a police officer several years ago. police searched two homes linked to the suspect and carried away boxes of evidence. they cannot say enough about jesse hartnett's briskry in the line of fire.

he pleaded guilty to assault and carrying a firearm without a license in philadelphia three years ago, and in delaware county, he was set to be sentenced on other charges next week. members of the local muslim community are condemning the ambush they say it is not consistent with the teachings of islam. leaders of the mosque in west philadelphia apologized another officer was injured in the line of duty. they say they do not know him, but admit he may have worshipped worshipped -- worshiped here. this is a public mosque, he may have come here, but it's no reflection on how we feel or interact with the police. philadelphia mayor kenny said the shooting has nothing to do islamic teachings. pennsylvania governor tom wolf issued this statement staying -- r

website 6abc.com throughout the weekend for the latest developments in the police officer ambush investigation. right now you can view the surveillance images video from the scene and our reports on the suspect's background. 7:37 a rescue on the train tracks in philadelphia's frankford section of a man fell off the platform and got trapped by a septa el train. firefighters worked for 30 minutes before freeing him along the 5200 block of frankford avenue. that man is in his 40s. he is in critical condition. we are awaiting information from septa on how this happened.

right now we're told it was an accident. dramatic video coming in from west philadelphia this morning. this right here, the car is wedged on its side. look at the video of this car completely inside the hardware store. the driver got out before they arrived at the scene south 60th street near osage avenue. the car hit a small trailer which careened into a parked car. well, the budget battle in harrisburg taking a new twist, the pennsylvania school board association has sued governor tom wolf and the republican-controlled state house and senate. the suit contends it is illegal and unconstitutional to with hold state and federal school aid during a budget impasse. they are looking to recoup nearly a billion dollars they had to borrow. governor wolf is looking for increases in education funding.
