terrorism. dann cuellar has more from police headquarters. >> reporter: we are learning from sources that the suspect recently traveled to the middle east, saudi arabia in 2011 and egypt in 2012 and had converted to islam. the question police and fbi investigators are trying to answer is whether or not he had been in contact with radical muslims. the ten seconds of terror were capture or surveillance camera. the gunman travels toward jesse hartnett cruiser his muzzle flashes and fires off a diswen shots. dozen shots. the officer manages to radio in. that is chilling, absolutely chilling when you watch that. police officials stunned by the images of the brazen attack. is if that doesn't make te hair on your neck raise when you

everything else when he had to be. >> reporter: the officer is in fair condition and faces a long road to recover. meantime, police comb through the evidence to see if the suspect had direct ties to isis. dann cuellar channel 6 "action news." we are learning new details about the shooter. edward archer's mother tells the philadelphia inquirer, her son was hearing voices. the family asked him to get help. yesterday police searched the home in yeadon delaware county. where he lived with his mother, she described him as a devout muslim. he has a long criminal record and long rap sheet. he was on the radar screen and was scheduled to be in the county court next week for another incident. this morning we also know back in 2013 archer pleaded

developing on "action news" at 9:00 a.m. a man shot during a robbery attempt in kensington. a gunman and two other men approached the 351-year-old man and demanded money. the victim was left shot and left bleeding on allegheny avenue. the man was taken to temple university hospital in criminal condition. the search continues for the three suspects. new this morning, a driver barreled into an abandoned store in west philadelphia and ran off before the cops could come to the scene. it happened around 4:00 a.m. on the 400 block of south 60th street. you can see the car flipped on its side stuck inside the old hardware store. the impact caused structural damage. inspectors from l&i have been called out to check the integrity of the building. police are certaining for the driver. -- are searching for the driver. 9:06. a 20-year-old man is dead after being shot multiple times in west philadelphia. police are on the scene looking

for evidence after 1:30 a.m. on the # hundred -- 800 block of 49th street. police rushed him to penn presbyterian where he died a short time later. police looking for the gunman in a shooting outside a north philadelphia bar, a man was shot in the face, chest and arm and left critically injured. that shooting happened on the 3100 block of north 6th street. crews rushed the victim to temple university hospital. we are following breaking news out of new york city at this hour where a police officer has been shot after exchanging gunfire with a suspect involved in a large fight. officials say 25-year-old officer stewart was shot in the ankle early this morning. he was responding to a fight following a large party in the bronx around 2:00 a.m. five people from the party have been hospitalized with stab

wounds. the 19-year-old suspect is in custody and the officer is expected to be okay. fire investigators are looking for the cause of the blaze that killed a pregnant mother and her 2-year-old son. flames ripped through the home on the 2200 block of north 4th street. elizabeth perez died trying to rescue her son. she ran, she would not leave her boy, she ran back in, she can't make it out, she was like i'm staying with my son, that's what she should do. there were five portable heaters in the home. 6 people did get out alive,le american red cross is helping them. heartbreaking story. time 9:08. there's new information to tell you about this morning, embattled pennsylvania attorney general kathleen kane may be running for re-election.

officer hartnett shot back and hit archer. the bravery he demonstrated was absolutely remarkable. his will to live undoubtedly saved his life. here is that new information archer's mother tells the philadelphia inquirer, that her son was hearing voices in his head and she told him he needed to get help. archer pled guilty to firearm and assault charge in 2012 and scheduled to be in court on an unrelated charge monday. officer hart knelt will be in the hospital -- hartnett is still in the hospital and will have several surgeries for a severely injured arm. her family donated to the children's hospital. today she lives the typical 5th grade life. i like to play with my toys, but this is emily almost four years ago. she was battling an aggressive form of acute leukemia. when the therapy stopped working she became the first pediatric patient to use her own t-cells using her immune system to attack her cancer cell it is. initially she got very sick. she went on a ventilator for 14 days, but woke up on her 7th birthday. >> reporter: when the doctors confirmed that the treatment worked they decided to start a foundation. we originally had a goal of

350,000 for the first year, but the support we had in the community and throughout the states has been amazing. doctors say since emily was treated locally 80 other kids and 200 adults have received the therapy. we have just reported that in the initial kids that we treated 90% of the patients have gone into remission. emily's hope for the donation is simple. $100,000 will go directly into a new clinical trial testing the treatment on other types of leukemia or lymphoma. they are not sure it will work to treat other cancers, but researchers are working on that. there's more information on emily's foundation at 6abc.com. ali gorman channel 6 "action news."
