weather forecast, brian. >> all right, thanks very much. it was a tense scene today in olde city, philadelphia a when a worker got trapped in the hole in the street for nearly two hours. the man was doing plumbing work just before 3:30 near third and market, when he somehow got stuck there. you can see thousands of fire fighters, rescue crews trying to help them get back aboveground. officials shut down market frankford el while the rescue was underway. finally around 5:00 this evening the worker was hoisted to the surface and taken to jefferson hospital for observation. the man accused of ambushing and shooting a philadelphia a police officer in the name of islam was officially charged today, and tonight, edward archer is behind bars, without bail. "action news" reporter jeff chirico live tonight at philadelphia police headquarters and jeff, you spoke with the suspect's mother earlier today. >> reporter: that is right, brian. she wouldn't speak on camera but she told me she's praying for officer hartnett's recovery.

she said man we have seen in those i am acknowledging, firing in the cruiser isn't the son that she knows. meanwhile investigators are digging in to archer a's past for links to terror groups. this is our first look at edward archer's mug shot, police formally charge the 30 year-old from yeadon with eight counts including attempted murder, aggravated assault and assault of the law enforcement officer. >> shots fire. i have been shot. i'm bleeding heavily. >> reporter: charges stem from thursday night's ambush of the philadelphia police officer. after which archer reportedly confessed, saying that he did it the in the name of islam and pledged allegiance to isis. >> do you have any sense he was radicalized in anyway. >> i knew he was muslim and he spent time in egypt before he came back to the you had. he was in egypt all 2012. >> reporter: this attorney represented archer on previous weapons charges in 2013 after he returned from egypt. >> i don't think he had had anything go to do with isis or islamic state or anything like that. this was an impulsive act by someone who wanted to make a mark for himself. >> reporter: the fbi is

brother was getting ready to go to work when he had problems with his truck. >> he would have been gone but his truck, wouldn't start and he was waiting for someone to come give him a jump. >> reporter: she said richard was standing outside in the 2200 block of west glennwood avenue in west philadelphia a just after ten a a.m. police were called to the area for a shooting. >> i get the a phone call at work and they said that he just got shot. of course, you know, you are emotional, upset. >> reporter: cole rushed to the scene to find out what happened from police. >> they say he was standing outside, two people walk past him, and shook his hand, and then they just let go, started shooting. >> reporter: the the 25 year-old was shot multiple times and died at the hospital. the city of philadelphia is offering a reward up to $20,000, for at rest and convictions of the persons responsible. all you have to does call the the citizens crime commission at 215-546-tips.
