a child. it was wednesday october 13th at about 6:00 a.m. when police got a 911 call from david dj creato reporting his little three-year-old son brendan was missing from his apartment. >> i just woke up and he wasn't in my apartment. i don't know if he wanted out or what happened. i don't know where he is. the door was locked. >> reporter: that call triggered a three hour long search. shortly after 9:00 a.m. searchers made a grim discovery. brendan's body was found in a wooded area in the cooper river park about a half mile from his father's apartment. it has never been clear how the little boy died. the initial autopsy was said to be uncommon sues is. >> reporter: it was report add drug screen showed nothing unexpected in the child's bloodstream. authorities said little during the investigation own that there was no evidence of a forced entry into dc creato's apartment. again, authorities saying very little at this point not saying how the murder allegedly took place or where it took place citing rules of

judicial conduct here in new jersey saying that they cannot make statements outside the courtroom. we may hear statements made in a courtroom tomorrow. it appears the father is to be arraigned tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 here in camden. live in camden, john rawlins, channel6 "action news." back to you all. >> a lot more to come there. john thank you. we're also following a deadly shooting inside a corner store in south philadelphia. police say the gun went off after a struggle between the suspects and the business owner. >> now, one suspect is dex another is in custody. "action news" reporter chad pradelli live at police headquarters. chad, you've got the latest on this. >> reporter: yeah, brian, police are still trying to sort out exactly what happened in this corner store but we're told that one suspect is dead, another is in custody and the store owner is being questioned by homicide developments around 8:30 this morning two suspects entered miss jessie's stop and shop on the 900 block of south 12th street. there was some sort of struggle over a gun.

one suspect was shot in the head. he died on scene. whose gun it was, the store owner or the suspect is unclear at this point. another suspect though was captured a short time later by police and here was a neighbor a short time ago talking about that store owner. >> everybody in the neighborhood and his wife and all them was born and raised in this neighborhood. been in this neighborhood all they life. >> they messed with the wrong guy, hm? >> no, they came in the wrong neighborhood. i don't know who did what 'cause i wasn't out here but i know mike is a nice guy. >> and police tell me there is a possibility of a third suspect. now two guns were recovered on scene. at least one of those was the gun used to shoot that suspect but again whose gun it was has not been verified. also schools in the immediate area of south philadelphia were placed on lockdown. a school spokesperson --

school district spokesperson tells me that lockdown was lifted about an hour later around 9:30 a.m. but this investigation is still very much ongoing and we'll have more details on later editions of "action news." live outside of police headquarters, chad pradelli, channel6 "action news." >> all right, chad, thanks very much. we've got more breaking news right now out of new jersey. in just the past hour governor chris christie announced a compromise between state lawmakers regarding gambling in that state. the measure would provide for two casino licenses in north jersey ending atlantic city's monopoly on that industry. the mandatory minimum investment for companies interested in bidding would be $1 billion. if the measure clears both the senate and the assembly by a 35ths majority the issue will be placed on the november ballot. >> the world today is mourning the loss of an entertainment legend. david bowie english singer song writer producer actor, painter died after a secret 18 month battle with cancer. the rock and roll icon has

been entertaining fans for more than four decades. but yesterday just days after he released a brand new album called black star, bowie lost his hard fight. he turned 69 years old just on friday. born david robert jones in south london bowie rose to stardom and was inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame in 1996. his biography saying he suffered half a dozen heart attacks during his fight with cancer and pushed through to the end just to get this album out. bowie leaves behind his wife of more than 20 years iman and two children. today the stars are mourning. fellow legend and brit mick jagger saying david was always an insphere asian to me an true original. he was wonderfully shameless in his work. we had so many good times together. he was my friend. i will never forget him. also on twitter today the british rock band queen tweeting the cleverest and

most interesting the brilliant man of our time. what a vacuum he leaves and how he will be missed. kanye west calling him one of my most important inspirations so fearless so creatively he gave us magic for a lifetime and also today british prime minister david cameron describing him as the master of reinvention who kept getting it right. a huge loss. now, of course bowie had a special connection to us here in philadelphia. in fact, two of his albums were recorded here including a live album at the tower theater in upper darby and that's where vernon odom joins you live now with more reaction. vernon. >> reporter: good evening, alicia. upper darby's tower theater was one of the major launching pads for david bowie's various incarnations over the years. in fact, philadelphia was the place where he got many of his creative juices flowing. philadelphia deejay john debella interviewed david bowie many times during the course of both their careers so he had the opportunity to

expect some slowing. in middletown township delco watch out for a crash along route one. that's the baltimore pike portion right at 352 middletown road and heading into the garden state, several issues this afternoon. first, at walt whitman bridge eastbound on the pennsylvania side right at the pol toll plaz. a vehicle fire. looking at speeds like 6 miles per hour coming off of the schuylkill expressway onto the walt whitman bridge. if you're taking the ben franklin bridge over and you're traveling through camden you're hitting traffic here on the eastbound side of the admiral wilson boulevard because the ramp to 130 southbound is closed. that's because on 130 southbound there's an overturned tanker truck so that too is all shut down. let's grab the ipad do the commuter report on this monday afternoon. hope you had a good weekend. we're not having such a good commute through south philadelphia because of that vehicle fire approaching the walt whitman bridge. what i would do is go over the ben franklin bridge then get on 676 southbound down to 42. that's your best bet this afternoon. we'll keep tracking the traffic troubles, brian and sharrie, in the next half

[gunfire] it was called operation swan involving heavy artillery and an intense fire fight. 17 mexican marines say they were met by about a dozen

armed guards protecting joaquin el chapo guzman who started firing at them even launched grenades. after 15 minutes we're told the marines controlled the entire house. five guards were killed and four people detained but not el chapo. once again, he escaped through a hidden passageway into an escape tunnel through the city's sewage system. when officials caught up with him he told police, "yes, my vacation is over." as for how officials found him through an interview with actor sean penn today, the feds in new york saying they have no plans at the time to pursue criminal prosecution because he appears to have been acting as a journalist and is covered by the constitutional right to freedom of the press. sharrie. >> still sounds like the making of a movie to many of us. >> you got it. >> alicia thanks. bucks county officials are investigating an early morning fire that destroyed a restaurant in feasterville. this was the scene inside the

hong kong king buffet this morning. flames broke out inside the kitchen's restaurant around 1:00 a.m. causing part of the roof to collapse. no one was hurt but the fire marshal told "action news" the restaurant is a total loss. neighboring businesses also impacted by the smoke and water damage. that includes the vip fashion dress shop next door. >> it was like everything to me. it's like what we always worked for and we made it perfect. we were just talking about how we just put in the last nail into the store. >> well, the owners of vip fashion said their bridal inventory is okay but up to 2500 prom dresses may have been affected. owners of a nearby gift shop also said they'll have to clean their glass and porcelain figurines by hand. >> the honda civic took home the title of 2016 north american car of the year. automotive journalists from the u.s. and canada decide that award. today they gave it to the civic which honda has

completely redesigned for this year. the civic won the industry's top award in 2006 but more recent models have been panned by critics. it's also been lagging in sales behind competitive like the toyota corolla. but journalists give honda's new sporty design a thumbs up. all right. speaking of thumbs up we like how the market started this week especially after the way it ended last week. the dow up 52 points today. the nasdaq off marginally five and a half points the nasdaq up just about two points on the day. >> it is one of the most famous pieces of real estate in the entire world and today it could be yours. the playboy mansion is up for sale. it's listed at $200 million. the house features 29 rooms, a game house, a home theater and a swimming pool. it also comes with one other feature, hugh hefner. as a condition of the sale the 89-year-old will have to continue to live there. he first moved in back in 1971

when playboy bought the mansion for just over $1 million. >> ought to come with some lysol, too, a little cleaning. time for action weather. >> let's check back in with meteorologist adam joseph with what some are calling flakes. >> tomorrow afternoon. finally we'll see some snowflakes around here. it's about time that the winter lovers get a little flake or two coming down from the 69 it's bound to happen that at point during the winter season. as we look at sky6 now you see chopper going ahead of the ben franklin bridge but a bright blue sky and the camera bouncing at times as we've had a pretty strong wind out of the west through much of the day. winds right now 17 miles an hour in philadelphia, 12 wilmington, 10 in reading, 16 down in millville and at times today the speeds have been between about 20 and 20 to 25, 30 miles an hour at times. and that creates a wind chill. you felt it all day. 25 in philadelphia, feels like 19 right now in lancaster, 25 in wilmington as well as

millville and right along the shore feeling like the upper 20's. as we look at satellite and radar we look all the way to the north and west, north and west of chicago near minneapolis moving out of alberta canada you see a little bit of precipitation. this is an arctic front, a weak clipper system that will dive down and push through here tomorrow afternoon and you notice not much moisture with it, very moisture starved and that's the way it will stay as it swings through. so for tonight clear and cold and less wind out there, 16 in allentown, 25 in philadelphia. dover a cold 25 -- or 23 to start your tuesday morning and speaking of tuesday morning, sunshine first thing so we're good to go here for that morning rush hour. then clouds will build around lunchtime. you see a couple of those snow showers developing lehigh valley into the poconos but for most of us it's broken in nature and doesn't arrive until later on in the afternoon during the evening rush mixing with some rain as well, southern areas in wilmington dover as well as millville and then it pivots

through and is gone by 9 o'clock tomorrow night. and again, it's snow showers coming through north and west. that's where we could see a coating northern chester montgomery bucks up into the lehigh valley on mainly grassy surfaces. for the major cities i-95 no accumulation but you'll see some snow showers in delaware and southern new jersey, they'll be rain to start and then mixing with a few wet snowflakes as that colder air arrives with the front. so the four day at 4:00 forecast those afternoon snow showers at times but notice the high of 44 in philadelphia. that is why it will have a hard time sticking in the major cities. then on wednesday, wind chills in the teens only with a high of 31 but bright sun. and then we're back to normal on thursday, 39 and a big bump up in temperature by the end of the week turning milder at 48 degrees and that mild air is coming in in time for our next storm. go figure. so, that will be rain. we'll talk about the timing of that coming up in the seven day. >> going to see strange to even see some snow. >> it will be a little bizarre. >> you got it.

working. he'll push us in the right direction. >> ramsey will also help implement recommendations from the department of justice. he was philadelphia's police commissioner from 2008 until his retirement earlier this month. >> a community agency in south jersey that helps families in need just got even stronger. the cherry hill food pantry is now in a bigger space. once housed in a 900 square foot building, it's new residence is on brace road and it's more than 4,000 square feet. under the new setup, families can actually shop for themselves and select the food that they are in need of. the food pantry currently serves 850 families and mayor chuck kahn as you see was on hand for the ceremony today. the eagles and verizon have teamed up for the annual packs for pride event today at lincoln financial field. back packs were filled with clothing perth care items and toys that will be given to local children affected by domestic violence.

tried unsuccessfully to steal a woman's car at a packed wawa in trevose last night. and it apparently wasn't the first time amir sanders targeted a customer pumping gas. "action news" reporter walter perez is live at the store with more on how police captured the alleged repeat offender. walter. >> reporter: well, sharrie as you mentioned last night there was an attempt carjacking at the gas pump he see lined me at this wawa in bensalem. local police are overjoyed they made this arrest because they believe the same man was behind a carjacking less than two weeks ago at this very same location. earlier this afternoon bensalem police arrested 22-year-old amir sanders. investigators believe he's the man seen in this surveillance video trying to carjack a woman while she was filling her suv with gasoline at the wawa on lincoln highway. bensalem police director fred herron says he believes the attacker was trying to get the victim to stay in the car with

him. >> the reason why we know he was trying to take off with her because it seems that the same individual committed the same type of crime back on december 30th at the same location. >> reporter: this surveillance video captured a short time after the first carjacking shows the victim removing money from an atm in philadelphia before reportedly going back to his vehicle and giving the cash to the knife wielding suspect. the carjacker got away after forcing the victim to drive him back to bensalem and dropping him off near a wooded area. but last night the attempted carjacking did not unfold as smoothly. >> she was screaming and started to hit her horn. other people from the gas station saw the commotion came to her defense and he fled the area. >> reporter: less than 24 hours later, bensalem police made the arrest. bail has not yet been set but saunders faces a string of charges including carjacking, attempted carjacking and theft. >> he will be now a resident of bucks county prison until a criminal justice system decides what to do with him

once he's found guilty which i'm sure he will be. >> reporter: and now local police want to hear from the people who helped chase away the attacker last night. investigators need those folks to give them details that can be used in court. so, if you were at this wawa and you saw what happened, please call bensalem police. reporting live from bensalem, walter perez, channel6 "action news." sharrie. >> okay, walter, thank you. meantime police in chester county are asking the public to help them track down a pastor accused of raping a teenaged girl. this is 33-year-old jack malone, jake malone. investigators say malone met the victim at an arizona church when she was just 12 years old. well, several years later in the summer of 2014 he invited the girl to stay with the family at their home in exton. the victim told police he started sexually assaulting her soon after. officials say malone may have fled the state. if you have any information on his whereabouts, call west

white land township police. >> police in south philadelphia are also hoping our viewers can can help to find a purse snatcher. this is surveillance video from the 1600 block of tasker street back on the morning of december 14th. you can see the suspect in the hood there walking toward his victim pretending to be on the phone but as soon as he's next to her the thief snatches her bag. at first the victim tries to chase him but soon thinks better of that. he was last seen running down the 1600 block of dickinson street. detectives in roxborough are trying to track down a thief who used his suv to literally rip off an atm. cameras captured the suspect outside the eagle gas station on the 3100 block of umbria street last thursday. as you can see the man ties one end of the rope around the machine the other to his bumper and then drives off ripping the atm from its anchor. after loading it into his suv he takes off. if you recognize the suspect in this case or the purse snatcher, please call philadelphia police. >> a 57-year-old man is

recovering in the hospital following a serious crash in west oak lane. the action cam was out along the intersection of 68th avenue and broad street. that's where two cars collided just after 8:30 this morning. at last check only one person, the 57-year-old man, had to be taken to the hospital. we're still waiting for word on his condition as well as information that led up to this crash. officials in camden county are trying figure out how this tanker truck ended up on its side. chopper6 was over the scene on route 130 near kaighn avenue in pennsauken. this happened around noon. hazmat crews were called to the scene because the tanker was leaking diesel fuel. the driver was not seriously hurt. >> well, talk about a drop in temperatures. record warmth yesterday and bitterly cold out there today. >> yes, 65 degrees in philadelphia yesterday breaking the old record of 63. today wind chills in the teens and the 20's and tomorrow say it ain't snow.

it will be. [laughter] >> a little bit at least. as we take a look right now at sky6 live at philadelphia international airport a crystal clear sky above. you can see some of the refineries and the smoke kind of working from the right to the left there with the wind blowing out of the west-northwest at 17 miles an hour. the air temperature 35 degrees but you knock off 10 degrees and that's how it feels at 25. bear creek the resort up in berks county, 30 degrees. dewpoint is just four so super dry air in place. with a westerly wind at 10 miles per hour. the system we're tracking is a clipper system just north and west of chicago and near international falls. notice not a lot of precipitation with it. it's very weak moisture starved but it will pivot through bring strong winds for wednesday very low wind chills and yes, a little bit of those snow showers. we'll chat a little bit more about it coming up in that full accuweather 7-day forecast. >> adam thank you. two rowers had to be rescued from the schuylkill river today after their boat got stuck on cables in the water. rescue crews were called to
