12:02 pm
developing a eastern low pressure center and develops into a nor'easter and we have the likelihood of quite a bit of snow in parts of the region. where we get the snow, that is the question, where it hits locally, could be fairly significant. a 40% chance of this piling up 6 to 12 inches and less than an outside chance, a decent chance that some areas go over a foot to perhaps a foot and a half. but where that sets up is in question. there are a couple of possibilities on the models, in this case we have a stronger storm that hugs the coast and closer to atlantic city where it can scoop the warm air in from the ocean and turn the snow from rain, in this scenario, most of the it would be northwest of i-95, snow mixing with rain north and east and we would
12:03 pm
probably get snow here but not enough as the northeast. another scenario is different, this is weaker and the low pressure is farther offshore and that allows the colder air to come in from the northwest and kind of hold its ground, the heavier snow would be over i-95 or southeast of i-95 over south jersey or delaware ain cutoff in the northwest where it would not be as snowy. they all put the bull's-eye in washington and baltimore, where there is a blizzard warning in effect. philadelphia would get hard on this model. 18 inches or more of snow, but other models like the european shows the bull's-eye to the west and some cases 6 to 12 inches, so a wide disparity of where the heavy snow will be but we think it will arrive on friday night and continue through most of saturday and through parts of the region get prepared in case you get underneath the heavier

in a couple of days. stormtracker 6 live double scan shows you that we are high and dry, there could be a little flurry or snow shower around in a couple of spots later tonight, especially in the overnight hours but not to worry, that small stuff and not the big story. the action cam was out in wilmington, delaware and we were feeding the pigeons and seagulls and canada geese, a bunch of stuff being fed, you can get outside and do things. it's easier today. here is why, the temperatures are cold, 33 degrees, but look at the winds way less than yesterday, just 7 miles per hour, a windchill of 27 close to the temperature. yes it's a lot more comfortable out there. we have seen clouds streak in from the west in the early morning hours, and now a clouds and sun mix. we'll call it clouds and sun in the lehigh sally, and less wind today and that is important.
12:25 pm
a high of 33, don't forget the coat as you head out. the shore the same story, not as windy as yesterday that is nice. and in philadelphia winds running 7 to 4 miles per hour after the gusts in the 30s yesterday and highs of 35 if we get lucky we'll go to 36 or 37, wouldn't that be party time. lets skip ahead. the next couple of days are cold and tranquil for the most part. and friday a system coming at us from the west transferring its energy into a coastal low and it will be a traditional nor'easter, it is going to give us problems, but there is warm air off the ocean that will change some of this to rain and the big question now is where that heavy snow sets up. it all depends on the track of the low. there are several scenarios, the first one has the low close to the coast and it can grab the warm air from the ocean and
12:26 pm
shove it in over land and change it to rain, and then a mix situation with snow mixing with rain on the i-95 corridor, that keeps your snowfall amounts down here, if this is what happens, in this scenario, the heaviest snow is what happened. and the send scenario the storm is out to sea and can't throw the warm air in and the heavy snow band is near the i-95 corridor and some extending up to allentown and a mix down south, and a third scenario, a new run on the future tracker 6 model, it holds the snow off until 8:30 friday evening, and look at this one in the overnight hours, the snow stays to the south and maybe comes farther up north during the day on saturday, i don't think this is the one that will win out, but i'm showing you all of these because they are out there on
12:27 pm
the models and that is the difficulty we are having now pinning this one down, still time to work on this though, a 40% chance of 6 to 12 inches of snow wherever the snow band hits and an outside chance of 18 inches as well. and worse in places like baltimore and washington, but we are looking at the potential for significant snow. 35 today and 36 tomorrow and no issues really and snow arriving and staying through the day on saturday. mixing with rain and down the shore we have coastal flooding and the precipitation knocks off probably later saturday night and sunday is windy and chilly and 38 and we get to melt the snow wherever it falls and temperatures in the 30s and 40s on tuesday. >> thanks david, more to come on our next half our of "action news" at noon, philadelphia's d.a. announces a safe way to get rid of the prescription drugs
