both new jersey and the lehigh valley. and adam joseph and cecily tynan have the latest look at the track. cecily tynan is first. >> there is no doubt this will be a big storm, all the winter storm warnings lining up from memphis to northern new jersey, this shows the track of low pressure toward the coastline and areas like nashville and memphis, they can't deal with the snow, we can deal with the snow and we will see a lot of snow. watches are post the friday night to saturday morning. i want to show you blizzard watch is posted for the d.c., and the baltimore area because of the gusting winds and low visibility and i think we'll experience blizzard conditions here back at home. double scan live radar showing oh my gosh is that the storm already?

no, we have light snow moving into western pennsylvania and could see a flurry or snow shower or two tonight, that is a weak system. what i'm tracking here doesn't look like much, the storm is in piecing and the main low is west of denver, and there are a lot of pieces of energy that come together and form a nor'easter and the storm really strengthens, the timeline, the good news is it won't arrive until the overnight on friday, probably between 10:00 and midnight in philadelphia, can you get home from school and home from work and hunker down on saturday. this is the brunt of the storm, we get bands of heavy snow and gusts inland up to 40 miles per hour and the storm is starting later and ending later it all winds down by early sun morning. a lot of pieces coming together like pieces of a puzzle. lets head over to adam joseph. >> you talked about the energy to the west and we are talking about high pressure in eastern

canada that high wedges down cold air but this time around it's not an arctic high so we don't have the bitter temperatures, it's right on the verge of freezing yes cold enough for snow, so it's not the light fluffy snow but the wet, heavy snow and that keeps the system from the south and prevent its from moving up the east coast to new england, it misses most of the new england this go around. future tracker 4:00 p.m. this time tomorrow we'll start to see the low developing in houston and jackson and new orleans louisiana, this is what we call the primary low. the initial low into the tennessee valley and starts to bump in the cold air in virginia and west virginia and north carolina and the low weakens as it transferred the energy to the coastal storm and becomes the nor'easter and hits the warmer

water, it explodes the system and rapidly deepening and it's so large we get clipped to the north and it's so big, you talk about a clip you are dealing with a lot of snowfall. future tracker 6 saturday afternoon, the size of the storm is the winds at the coast, 64 miles per hour for most of the southern new jersey and delaware saturday afternoon causing coastal flooding and beach erosion and maybe even power outages, when we look at future tracker 6 snowfall amounts, the most snow is going to fall in virginia, west virginia and the d.c.-baltimore region, even though we are not in the jackpot area of two feet, we are getting a decent amount of snow around here. cecily tynan will have the exact amounts coming up in the full accuweather forecast. folks around here are already getting prepared for what could be a long wintry weekend, the owner of rj

equipment is fully stocked with snow blowers and expects to sell two dozen of them with the snow on the way and people in the garden state are thinking ahead and it's expected to get busier, nora muchanic continues our team coverage from burlington county. hi nora. >> hi there monica, the frantic rush at food stores have not begun in earnest yet that will start tomorrow. today however there was no problem navigating the aisles in willingboro, there was a steady stream of people wanting to get their shopping done before the frenzy. >> it's not bad now but i expect it to be chaotic the rest of the today and the weekend. >> you might call it the calm before the storm, at the acme market, early bird shoppers began their preparations, tea and soda and crackers and cheese. >> and a loaf of bread.

weekend but not everyone is dreading the weather as we look live from spring mountain, officialed there are not bracing for the snow they are preparing for it. they are ready after a warm dry start to the winter. this is what they are looking for in the poconos and on the ski mountains. lehigh valley waller perez is at bear creek resort with more on that part of the story. >> reporter: hi rick, we'll give you a live look at the slopes at bear creek, people are enjoying the trails covered with nothing but man made snow, skiers and snowboarders are hoping for more this weekend for more reason than one. spring mountain finally opened two weeks ago on january 6th, making it one of the latest opening in their history. when you consider the previous year they were making snow in november missing all of december this time around was painful.

>> especially christmas week, that is our money week between christmas and new years, everyone is home and all the college kids are home and people are off work and this year we missed it totally. >> with the busy martin luther king holiday behind them and presidents day still to come, ski officials say they are optimistic that this ski season could finish strong after a miserable start. but the one thing they are missing is the one thing they refer to as the most powerful marketing tool that is real snow. >> people see it in their yards, and they like to play in it, and want to go skiing and do things outside and take advantage of the snow. >> and nobody wants to see this storm drop a winter wonderland on the resorts, but which to skiers or snowboarders prefer. man made or natural snow. it was unanimous, there is nothing like the real thing. >> man made snow is easier.

it was another rough day on wall street. crude oil hit $27 a barrel. the lowest price since 2003. that sent the markets tumble. the dow was down $250 and the nasdaq down 5 points and the s&p lost 22 points on the day. kevin steel has asked the court to dismiss a petition filed by bill cosby's defendants attorneys, they claim that cosby's sex assault charges were brought on ethically and illegally because former d.a. bruce caster made a deal not to file charges back in 2005, so that cosby would testify in a

deposition following a lawsuit. today they called the argument meritless and blamed cosby's attorneys for seeking special treatment. philadelphia officials launched a campaign trying to get prescription drugs off city streets, it's called med return, special drop boxesplying these will be put around the city, anybody can use them to anonymously deposit left over prescription drugs and officialed can then destroy them. d.a. essential williams calls it a big step in the fight against substance abuse. >> overdose is a crisis affecting all philadelphians, every walk of life in every corper of our city. >> he cited sources for the program in 2014, more than 650 people died of overdoses that is nearly triple the city's

health check tonight, cases of the mosquito born virus have been found in several more states, illinois, texas, and florida. and health officialed warn travels to take precautions, ali gorman is at the big board with more. >> reporter: so far if the u.s. there are cases in florida, illinois, texas and hawaii. all of them are for people that travel to south america where the virus is much more prevalent, the cdc is advising

anyone that visits the areas especially pregnant women to take precautions to avoid mosquito bites, it has mild symptoms like rashes and pink eye, but it could cause a potentially fatal birth defect. if you are pregnant and travelled to the areas you are asked to be evaluated by your doctor. fast food restaurants get most of the blame for mega calorie meals, buckleries add up in none chains too. they measured portion sizes for the most popular entrees and side dishes, non-chains averaged 1200 calories a meal the same as the chain spots. and portion sizes did not necessary indicate calorie amounts. finally today we know there was a lot of excuses and

obstacles that can get in the way when trying to improve your health, work is one of the greatest barriers, work schedule is the number one obstacle, the average american worked 47 hours a week. this was especially true for people living in the northeast and people making more than $100,000 a year. other barrier include healthy food and taking care of loved ones and getting too little sleep. and schedule medical appointments for screenings like colonoscopy, women are twice as likely to follow through on this, and men need to make this a priority as well. as for the busy schedule, plan exercises into your work week at least three days a week and there is strength in numbers trying to encourage your co-workers and friends and

consensus we get hit by a major snow storm, but we have time to prepare. we are looking at shawnee mountain, they will get snow however there is a sharp cutoff in the snow amounts, from areas i-80 north, right now temperatures finally above freezing, 34 degrees here first time since sunday afternoon we got temperatures above freezing, allentown 33 and sea isle city 32 and trenton 34 degrees. there is a bit of a breeze and windchills in the 20s and 30s, and a lot better than yesterday at this time when we had windchills in the teens. satellite 6 along with action radar showing a lot of clouds moving in and snow showers in western pennsylvania and that is from a weak zaushance moving through tonight and that could bring us a little bit of snow. and that won't be a big deal, it will be cold but not as cold as

the last couple of nights. 25 in philadelphia and 20 in millville and 27 in cape may and 23 in trenton with a few snow showers. future tracker 6 showing through tomorrow morning, early in the morning this is when we'll see snow shower activity with temperatures in the 20s, a nice day. the calm before the storm, 36 degrees at 3:00 and friday also looking decent, we'll see some clouds moving in during the day on friday, but the kids can get home from school and most people can get home from work before the snow arrives, looks like the snow will begin to move up from the south between 9:00 and 11:00, 10:30 snow falling in wilmington and areas to the south, this is arriving in the overnight hours, this is the graphic everyone is waiting for. how much snow will we see? looks like we'll get a good thump of snow. right from the pennsylvania

turnpike philadelphia, into interior south jersey, 12 to 18 inches of snow, if we see 18 irnlgs of snow it will be a top storm for philadelphia. through the turnpike and the lehigh valley, 6 to 12 inches of snow and the poconos 3 to 6, and along the shore, this is the wild card, how much mixing to see, right now 3 to 6 inches, but atlantic county 3 inches in eastern atlanta county and 18 inches in western atlantic county. and tomorrow a nice day 33 degrees and friday nice and 36 and snow arriving late friday night. heavy snow and high winds and a heavy wet snow and snow is ending early sun morning and windy 38 degrees, and monday 48 degrees and quiet weather and

"action news" continues with meteorologist, adam joseph, jaime apody, rick williams and monica malpass. hello again, here is what is happening on "action news" tonight. drivers planning to be out and about during the nor'easter, need to take steps now to handle the roads, we'll tell you how. a man that kidnapped and tortured a jewelry store employee learns -- he has to take a different route starting very soon. we are continuing to track an approaching nor'easter that will bring snow and winds to our area. and a watch is posted for our area, it goes into effect and stays in place until saturday morning. delaware will be the first to feel the impact of the storm. folks are at home depot to stock up on shovels and salt for sidewalks and driveways.

>> and stocking up at grocery stores. they are stocking up on bread and milk and they will be going fast as the storm gets closer. >> nydia han is standing by with what drivers need to know to make sure the car can handle the conditions this weekend, lets head to adam joseph tracking the storm all day long with the latest from double scan live radar. >> as we look at the radar, the energy is all apart, there is no storm to look at now, we are waiting for the storm to develop which it won't until tomorrow afternoon. one near denver and one near oklahoma city. they will collide east of the dallas, texas and that will start to take shape here, ahead of it, as we approach later on in the week, friday night into sunday morning, a winter storm watch is issued for the entire viewing area, we are expecting heavy snow and snow that will accumulate and the plows will be

out and shoveling the walkway and driveway, here is the latest trends with the latest models that came in, it looks like snow for most, the mixing issue of sleet and rain will be confined. far south and east of philadelphia, southern delaware and southern new jersey, it's now centered on saturday for the heart of the storm as opposed to starting late on friday afternoon and it's a wet, heavy snow that will glue itself to all surfaces and it's heavy and could give tension on the wires and the trees. as we look at friday night into saturday, with the risk, heavy snow is a high risk. icing and extreme cold this go around and temperatures flirting much of the day on saturday, in the philadelphia region, and also a big concern is the strong winds and coastal flooding and winds down there in excess of 50

themselves as a faction of the taliban. the main faction says they were not behind it. four attackers stormed the campus near the afghan border armed with explosives and guns, the terrorists killed 18 students and two teachers before being gunned down, at least 28 other people were injured. they called the university quote, an instrument of the government and army. some speculate the school was targeted because they enrolled 250 women among their 3,000 students. back here a professor at kents state ohio university is being investigated for alleged ties to isis. after the school newspaper revealed she was interviewed about the professor julio pino and he denies being involved. i have not broken the law and i

have not been served paper. >> pino is no strange toward controversy. back in 2011 he made headlines after shouting, death to israel, at a lecture given by a foreign diplomat. also, today police in philadelphia and new york are investigating a possible threat against officers in both cities, someone called in an anonymous tip and that phone call was traced back to new york. sara bloomquist is working on that story now and will have updates tonight at 11:00. >> michigan governor rick schneider asked president obama to reconsider his denial of a disaster declaration because of the drinking water in flint. and that it poses a long-term threat to residents. he determined it was not' disaster based on the legal requirement that such additional

we have breaking news to report from west philadelphia, chopper 6 hd over the scene of a shooting. in which philadelphia meets are investigating at this hour. the incident was reported at 5:30, the 5400 block of pearl street. reports of a woman shot perhaps in the head. no word on her condition. you can see the police cruisers at the top of your screen.

and a woman possibly shot in the head and we'll stay on top of it. and bring you more information as it becomes available to us. drivers that use the falls bridge in the fairmount park situation need to find another route to get around. starting monday there are temporary lane closures and on monday february 1st, the bridge closes to all vehicle traffic and they will be diverted to the city avenue bridge and bikers and walkers will still have access to the sidewalks. time for sports and jaime apody is here and chip kelly had a few interesting things to say here. >> after his press conference, he said he had to get a new phone, and apologized if eagles players were trying to reach him and couldn't. he said it took some long because he had to fly home to get his suit and thanked jeffrey

and four or five model runs to look at. things will change but a good handle on what to expect as we look at double scan live radar around the region. we are dealing with cloud cover out there right now and even a couple of flurries that are floating in parts of the area over the bay there in delaware and watching some flurries that will be pushing in and snow showers as we go through the overnight hours. today the high temperature was 36 degrees in philadelphia that occurred at 2:58 and we are back above freezing and the low this morning at 6:27, was 21 degrees. as we look at the current windchills 33 in allentown it's balmy and 37 in philadelphia and 22 in millville. a far cry from the below 0 windchills from a day ago. a weak system you can see some broken snow showers to the west

they are pushing through later on tonight and so a couple of snow showers not as cold, 20 to 25 degrees with the westerly wind 5 to 10 miles per hour as we take a look at the bigger system though that we are tracking to the west, it's really not put together at this point. we are talking about a storm that hasn't even formed yet, a little piece near wichita, and one near denver and these two will merge north and east of dallas and that is when we see it uniting out of the gulf of mexico. tomorrow sunny and quiet around here, friday it clouds up and quiet around here for the rush hour, temperatures near freezing and it's just cloudy no precipitation, even 9:00 on friday night, we are starting to first see the snow bands near dover points to the south and west near washington and baltimore and 31 in philadelphia and millville. and then the snow starts to push in at the midnight hour, so it gets pushed back time wise, 31

in the city and 31 dover and starts as snow at the shore and saturday morning snow heavy at times with temperatures above freezing to the south and the poconos still twiddling their thumbs saying where is the snow and the poconos is on the verge of seeing little snow out of this storm, we see heavy wet snow and saturday 1:00 in the afternoon and mixing happening and changing to rain down the shore and southern parts of new jersey, a quick change to rain at the shore, big concern with rains 50 to 60 miles per hour and major coastal flooding and beach erosion during the storm. as of right now, we have four more model runs over the next two days to see how the storm will evolve. 6 to 12 inches across northern areas north of the pennsylvania turnpike. philadelphia wilmington and interior new jersey and 12 to 18

inches of heavy wet snow and to the south it trops off where it mixes at the shore 3 to 6 inches down there. mostly sunny and 38, friday is a great day, work and school, full days here, 36 degrees and snow comes in at night and heavy at times as we highlight saturday, windy as well. notice the temperatures above freezing so the wet snow will be very heavy and wet and there is stress on the weak limbs here and it ends and we can get out and enjoy the snow, we enjoy it monday through wednesday and melting through next week.
