colliding with another vehicle in delaware, sending several people to the hospital. >> and a magical look at the disney on ice performances before the curtain call. but the big story is the area bracing for a big snow storm. we are 24 hours a way from the storm and there say blizzard watch in the region. >> "action news" caught up with the penndot crews already brining the roads and they are trying to get a head start before any snow begins to fall. we have live coverage this noon, katherine scott is in the may fair section. but lets begin with meteorologist, david murphy, he is tracking the storm and the potential impact on our area. >> we'll start you with the big news, the posting of a blizzard watch in the center portion of the region, covering the i-95

corridor and the southern regions. and a watch in the poconos and cape may county new jersey, the blizzard watch and winter storm watches start friday evening and don't end until sunday morning. it's not the snow you get but wind and visibility. as the heart of this snow is coming through in the counties listed in the watch, wind gusts of over 35 miles per hour expected and snow reducing visibility to a quarter mile or less, that means driving is a bad idea overnight friday into saturday and saturday night. and the road conditions will deteriorate, this condition has to last three hours or longer and can obviously go longer than that. taking a look at the storm system itself, it's off to the west and has mostly rain near nashville and we are expecting this low pressure center moving to the east and gathering in

cooler air, the low will be around atlanta early tomorrow morning and into the tomorrow afternoon and then cuts to the east and ends up helping and aiding and abetting a coastal low that comes as a nor'easter on saturday. ahead of that, a warm front coming ahead of the low will push snow into the region as soon as late friday night, lets go ahead and give you more on that. coastal flood watch we'll talk about this quick -- as the storm system goes past the coast we are looking at strong on shore winds and that will produce an issue with flooding and it could be serious flooding down around the shore, and i want to show you the progression of the snow and the evening commute looks good. but the later we get into the evening 8:00 and the overnight hours, the more and more the snow overtakes the region and pushes to allentown and pushing

through the day on saturday and bands of heavy snow and blinding blizzard conditions are possible, we are back with more on future tracker 6 and expected snowfall amounts from this. the last time we had a blizzard was 2010, this is a situation people need to take seriously. >> thank you. lets switch to "action news" reporter, katherine scott in philadelphia's may fair section will people are stocking up on supplies. >> reporter: the people i am speaking to today don't want to leave anything to chance, they want their groceries and their rock salt at home and ready to go before the snow starts to fall tomorrow night. >> have to get salt before it's too late. >> from the time this home depot opened its doors, customers were coming in and hauling out their winter supplies. >> everybody is sold out of salt. >> already? >> lowes they are sold out.

i don't know where everybody will get it. >> inside the ice melt was continually restocked. people grabbed a shovel or even a snow blower. some feel like their preparations are last minute. in south philadelphia this is last minute, shop-rite is next and bread and milk. >> at this acme they are stocking up to hunker down. you have to get out before the crowds and i'm not going out in the snow. >> everybody is panicking now. perhaps the promise of yummy comforting food and the staples help make a weekend at home more appealing. >> eggs and milk for the baby. >> chips and dip. >> wings. >> a snow day party. yes. >> and in a more official capacity, penndot is preparing as well and they were out

called to a high rise that houses senior citizens after elevated levels of carbon monoxide were discovered. it happened at the luther towers at 9:30 this morning, high co levels were expected on the second and third floors, the entire building were forced to evacuate. they say the heating system in the basement is to blame. police in burlington county are investigating what led to a deadly crash of a dump truck this morning. police say that the truck collided with the van at 6:45 this morning and the truck overturn and lost its load and one person was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was brought to deborah medical center for treatment. two people were injured when an suv collided with another vehicle in newcastle. the crash caused the suv to burst into flames, it happened on 273.

a fight broke out and the car driven by the alleged drunk driver hit several cars sending one in the officer's direction. he has an extensive record of drinking and driving and the officer hit is expected to be okay. a florida woman fought off two would be carjackers keeping them from taking her car with her child in the backseat. >> you can see the man running through the gas station parking lot and before they could drive away she ripped off one ski mask and dragged him off to the pump and police arrested the man nearby. a ski resort is pressing charges of a snowboarder that became an online video sensation, christian morris was wearing a go pro camera when an avalanche hit. you can see it when he takes a

and we don't have any precipitation now, stepping outside fairmount park, a lot of sunshine there morning, got a few more clouds rolling in now and a tranquil day for the most part and a day to get around and get things done, and people are thinking they should. the winds are out of the north-northwest at 17, picking up from this morning, the current windchill feeling like 23, still not a bad day to get out and get things done. some clouds are dishing in from the north and there is more coming from the west and we'll probably transition from the sun and clouds mix. 35 is the high in the lehigh valley, and down the shore milder than yesterday with a high close to 40, clouds and sun on on the chilly side. and philadelphia a high of 38 a couple of degrees below average, winds west 6 to 18 miles per hour. breezy but not too bad, the clouds and sun mix with perhaps

more sun as the day goes on. future tracker 6 specificing up the low pressure that is developing on friday we expect it to be centered around new orleans and jackson, mississippi. and then it pushes east and a band starts to push snow in our direction this is 9:30 at night on friday and then we transition that into a nor'easter that comes past us on saturday and gets the winds whipping. here is future tracker 6 showing you the progression of the snow, again it doesn't look like it will be here in time to hinder the evening rush but overnight into saturday morning and this is 6:00 a.m., you can see how the snow is overtaking most of the region and we go through the day to 3:00 and it is still snowing and the winds are coming in off the ocean at that point. there are times when the rain will try to march up close to philadelphia. by 11:00 saturday night it's possible we set up the final

snow band and overnight it starts to come in and then weakens and sunday morning we expect most of the this to be over, if anything is left over, maybe a light rain or shower. the general 6 to 12 is definitely a possibility. there say chance of a bullets area that goes a foot to foot and a half of snow. if anything changes with this, i think it's a slight adjustment with this band pushing it farther down or out to the west or southwest. in any event we are looking at the heavy snow coming down and piling up. a blizzard watch is declared and what we are talking about there is be expect wind gusts 25 miles per hour and low visibility of a quarter mile or less. last time there was a blizzard they were back to back in 2010, february 6th, the so-called snow

mageddon storm, and northern one that picks up the snow pock alips moniker. snow at night on friday and heavy at times through saturday and then early sunday morning. it looks like sunday afternoon is windy and chilly and dry and 38 monday and we are back in the 40s on tuesday and wednesday and hopefully getting to work on mel melting some of that snow sfwli remember 2010, it was the weekend of my birthday and i didn't celebrate.
