blizzard is to blame. the blizzard is putting some towns in the record books. this morning, the jersey shore is bracing for another round of flooding hopefully it is not as bad as yesterday. high tide will half in a half-hour, meteorologist david murphy and chris sowers are tracking the flood concerns and they the noteses. karen rogers is -- snow totals. romg -- karen rogers has the roads. allentown was slammed with 31 inches of snow, chris it stops my breath every time. >> reporter: it doesn't usually happen, gray is what i was going to say. "action news" has a team of reporters covering the impact of the storm. we'll get to chris in a moment. trish hartman is south philadelphia, annie mccormick and in south white hall and nora muchanic in ocean city.

but first we head to chris sowers at the big board. >> reporter: it doesn't usually happen this way. we get a snowstorm we see five, six, 7 seven inches of snow. 9 blizzard of 96 produced 36 inches of snow. this ranks 4th of all type of. 22.4 inches. some areas picked up close to 30. allentown received more than 31. collegeville, 26. hugo, 18.5. runnymede, 14, greeneville, a little more than a foot of snow. the storm continues to pull away it's a good 200 miles out to sea. it's sitting here, with the counter clockwise winds continuing to wrap around the shore, we have an offshore breeze. we are expecting flooding with the this morning's high tide, but the winds are in the

opposite direction so we're not piling the water on. the flooding should not be all that balanced. temperatures will moderate during the course of the week. we will not see a huge warm up, we'll not see a lot of flooding with the melting. cape may harbor, during sandy we saw 8.6-foot high tide in cape may harbor. with this system alone we saw 9.38 that was yesterday morning. great channel in stone harbor with sandy they saw 9.4-foot tide with this one it was 10 1/2 feet. we saw the storm system, but we had the full moon. i want to bring in meteorologist david murphy because we are expecting flooding this morning, but it shouldn't be as bad as yesterday. >> reporter: not as bad because of the offshore land breeze you're talking about, chris. the other issue today is how cold it is across the region as you get outside to start to

shovel. let's take a look at temperatures, 22 in philadelphia. 19 in allentown. 15 in reading, 14 in lancaster, 21 in millville. there's a bit of a breeze blowing and the windchill making it feel like 13 in philadelphia and single digits in many spots. bundle up in lots of layers, gloves halts as you get outside to tackle the snow. it's a little bit gusty it is possible you'll see gusts in the teens at 10:00 a.m. later on the winds will ease back and the gusts are not anything at all we'll have a 7 to 14-mile an hour breeze the rest of the day. heavy snow drifts are part of the package as you go outside with the shovels. i want you to be careful. take it slow, back strain heart strain is a possibility. take a lot of breaks if you're shoveling. we have better weather in the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, chris sowers will be back in a moment to tell you about that. guys. thank you. the action cam shot this

icy flooding at the jersey shore. chunks of ice mixed with water in the margate ventnor area. nora muchanic is down the jersey shore, there's a concern when high tide comes in at 7:00. >> reporter: there is indeed. we have daylight that gives us a better view of what's happening. i'm on 13th street, that is still water covered it is starting to freeze over at this point. things are so cold. unlike yesterday when we came into town this morning, many of the streets, most of the streets are dry and passable. there are pockets of water, but you can get threw here, that's good news, hope hefully that won't change too much -- hopefully that won't change too much with the high tide. a woman was walking her dog, she said she had to change the path

a little bit, here's what she said about the storm. there's water everywhere, it's a little dirty, everybody will be okay we'll be fine this morning in cleaning up and everything. yesterday was crazy. our power flickered our house got a little bit in the garage, but the other than that it was pretty good. we just kind of hunkered down and stayed in the house and watched it come down all day. >> reporter: back live, now, you are looking at the swamped fire hydrant on 13th and west. gives you an indication there are still streets underwater in town this morning. we have ice building up on top of the stuff. no cars or trucks have driven through it yet, so it is sort of

solidifying. we expect water in the streets and how bad it's going to be will be the big question. live in ocean city, nora muchanic channel 6 "action news." thank you, our thoughts and prayers with the folks in ocean city. septa is working to get back online this morning of course. the broad street line is operating to the fern rock transportation center bus service is expected to gradually start resuming at 10:00 a.m. septa plans to update the situation throughout the morning, we'll keep you posted. mobile 6 is out back roaming the streets checking out the aftermath after the massive storm. right now they are heading toward walt whitman bridge on 676. this is the jersey side. as you see plows have been on 676 it is good news it is smooth sailing there. live at philadelphia international airport, operations are gradually improving. the airport is restoring some service after being completely shut down yesterday. a couple of people at the

airport and looking at phl.org just a few flights there right now, many canceled. they are going to cut monday service in philadelphia and new york and washington, d.c. call 1-800-phl-gate to check on the status of flights at philadelphia international. let's go over to karen rogers and see what's happening on the ground. >> reporter: this is the day things start to come back to life. looking live at the boulevard at ridge avenue. look how nice it looks at this point. you see the street surface. they did a great job on the majors. we have 45-mile an hour speed restrictions on all the majors because they want you to take it slowly. 202, we want to see if this poor guy ever was able to dig out. we had a truck that was stuck since yesterday, it's still there. we have a tow truck tout there,

he will try to help pull him out of there, this is 202 northbound at chester brook boulevard. this is a good shot because you're traveling along ridge you can see traffic is moving okay there. you can see the snow and ice, this is route 100 at phoenixville. you have to watch the overpasses and the ramps. you need to be careful as you head out you have to anticipate that areas will look good and some of the others it will be snow covered, especially the routes are not used quite as much. vine street expressway looking nice and clear, traffic moving okay closer to the city. we're slowing it down and looking good. as you look around the area, 42 is looking better than yesterday and how about the ramp we saw so many accidents and spin-out vehicles here. they did a good job clearing that out. scott on twitter sharing a picture saying honeybrook he has

we're talking to people around the area. i can tell you when we drove in the major roads are okay, not great. the side roads are not great at all, something you don't want to be on if you're driving in a four wheel vehicle. lehigh valley airport is operating, but you have to check the flights, there are a number of cancellations. they are trying to get back to normal here today. it's going to take time. we caught up with two guys helping a family friend get to work, they work in the medical field here's what he said they were seeing on the roads. how are the neighborhoods looking? all side streets are closed main streets you see cars abandoned all that stuff. >> reporter: on cedar crest boulevard. ham toll an boulevard -- hamilton boulevard we saw five

cars stuck and just left. >> reporter: even when you plow the roads you'll see icy conditions like this in the area. now, a lot of people were out buying rock salt. hopefully they are laying that down. this is the white supermarket, cedar crest and hamilton boulevard. they are opening today at 9:00. some of their employees are here today. a number of shopping centers in the area have not been plowed at all. they are difficult to get into. one sign though, for catholics, the allentown afternoon die -- archdiocese has lifted a day as a day of obligation, you don't have to go to mass today. that's good to know. temple gymnastics team raises their hands after they get moving and being stranded on

regional rails or high speed line. we've had crews out none stop since before and during and continuing through the storm to try to get us ready for some form of service beginning at 10:00 a.m. this morning. we have several bus routes we're working to get up that will feed into the market frankford line and the broad street line to get people to those modes. trollies, the same thing, we have pilots out to get the city trolleys and the route 101 operating for people to get around. we're looking at regional rail and norristown high speed line we'll have an announcement on those services later this morning. any serious trouble spots that you see that will be harder to get up and running again? >> reporter: there was so much drifting and blowing of the snow, the norristown high speed line, the third rail trains were

temperatures will climb into the upper 20s, low 30s, double scan live, the storm has pulled away, it's well out to sea. you can see the outer bands off the coast of cape code that's the extent of how far west the storm is now, it continues to pull away. we have let's call it a offshore breeze this morning. that should help with the flooding. there will be moderate flooding down the shore, but the fact that the winds are pushing the water out to sea, it should mean that the flooding is not as bad at the same time yesterday. high tide occurring on the oceanfront 7:26 places like atlantic city, stone harbor, back bays an hour later. delaware bay, 9:30. you'll see minor to major flooding this morning, but it will be better than yesterday at this time. where does the storm rank for the city of philadelphia. number 4. number one was the blizzard of 96, 30.7. i believe this guy was snow ma

magedon. the highest snowfall total i saw with the storm was 42.2 inches west of washington, d.c. tremendous amount of snow out there. reading feels like 15. allentown, 19. poconos 12. look at the windchill if you're going out there today and do sledding and remove the snow from the walks you're going to need to bundler -- bundle up. the windchills in the single digits. feels like 9 in philadelphia. and 11 in trenton. combination of sun and clouds, a nice, quiet day plenty of time to clear the walks. we'll go from partly cloudy to mostly sun by afternoon. future tracker with the winds

all afternoon the winds will by the you out of the west/northwest 5 to 15 miles per hour. with the temperatures in the upper 20s be low 30s, you factor in the winds it will feel like the teens throughout the day. the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, windy and cold, 32 feeling like the teens and 20s, winds out of the northwest 10 to 15 miles per hour. overnight tonight, 14 degrees the outlying suburbs. well north and west, places like allentown and reading, probably dropping into into the upper single digits. same thing for the pine barrens and interior portions of new jersey. one quick reminder before we get into the seven-day forecast. everyday after today everyday in the seven-day forecast is above freezing, but overnight we crash and each and every morning there could black ice and a lot of slick spots out there.

last night. the hardest hit areas are wildwood and stone harbor. each of the towns have 4,000 outages. there were cheers on a dark bus as the temple university women's gymnastics team got moving after being stuck for 24 hours on the pennsylvania turnpike in somerset county. the girls tweeted pictures while stranded in the snow. we talked to one of the ladies on the bus here's what she had to say. some of the girls got out and stretched their legs, that's about it. some of the girls got study time in. they were supposed to attend a mete at the university of pittsburgh, but obviously never made it. they are just excited to be back home right now.

so glad you stayed with us on a sunday morning. 7:27 you're taking a live look action cam right here in ocean city. you can see they are dealing with minimal flooding there. sunny yesterday they were hit really hard. it was a tough time for those folks there. high tide expected in four minutes from now at 7:30. meteorologist chris sowers saying that things should not be as bad as yesterday. we'll have a live report from nora muchanic from ocean city in just a bit. take a look at what the "action news" camera caught overnight a couple of people using atvs on the art museum stems. this was around 4:00 a.m. you can see the all terrain vehicle bouncing as it made its way down the steps. a sled would have been the better way to go. we have more "action news"

philadelphia. every nowfer -- every now and then the winds let up, 14 degrees in reading. you can see the single digits on the map. if you're heading out or playing, avoid the roads and cars. it's cold and breezy, you get mixing around in the snow you can get problems with your fingers frozen up and toes too. tell the kids to take warm breaks. frostbite symptoms tingling and numbing in the extremities, the skin can turn pale. down the shore we have a coastal flood warning in effect until noon. areas of high tide we're in the middle of that, they expire at 8:00 a.m. nora muchanic is down there keeping us posted on what things look like. she is reporting it's not as bad this morning as it was last

night. for now, cold, a little bit breezy. bundle up if you're heading out. we're keeping a close eye on the high tide at the jersey shore as people brace for another potential round of flooding. some towns were partially under water by the high tide. nora muchanic is live this morning in ocean city, nora everyone hoping we don't have a repeat of yesterday. >> reporter: oh, yeah everyone is keeping their fingers cross for sure. as i hear david talk about the temperatures, we've been focused on the flooding i have not thought about the cold. it is really cold down here. thankfully the wind is not like yesterday. it was brutal. west avenue, the street in front you is 13th street. it's frozen over there's a film of ice beginning to form here. no cars have driven over it yet. look at the tires and truck right there. the reflection of it it's

interesting. we have flooding in the streets. i want to show you video that we shot earlier. first of all i want to show you the video from yesterday. this is what it looked like on the side streets when all the icy water went spilling into the streets from the bay. chunks of ice were flowing up the same street this morning. the water has recreted -- receded leaving dirt in the streets, but the roads are passable. now the high tide is here, there's pockets of flooding in ocean city. we'll see how this morning's high tide affects that. you have to be careful driving around if you're going through the water. some shore towns as i said before will be assessing the damage. north wildwood, stone harbor, margate, atlantic city some of the towns had water in homes and businesses. several towns had to rescue people because the water was so high. we checked the bay this morning,

when we got here, it was in the bay in check not over the bulkhead which was good news. i'm going to check down the street to see. looks like it is still in the bulkhead. of course, we'll have street flooding, but hopefully nothing compared to yesterday. right now, 13th street freezing up on us right now him we'll have to wait and see what happens, town is looking, ocean city is looking a lot better than yesterday. i'm nora muchanic live on the action cam now back to you guys. so many evacuations and rescues yesterday, fortunately nothing like that today. thank you. a chester county church will not have services today after a five feet of snow caused it to cave in in downingtown. the clams left a 60 by 65-foot gaping hole in the roof. the pastor plans to hold

services online for parishners. the blizzard hit the lehigh valley the hardest in the area. allentown got socked with 30 inches of snow. still cannot believe the number. annie mccormick is live in south white hall, a suburban of allentown. annie we've seen you on standing on the mounds. what's the latest out there? >> reporter: i'm standing on this snow mountain this will be a common sight in the area around parking lots as the plow crews start to come through. i can tell you at this point it looks beautiful. we're having issues getting around the area. i'm told a number of cars on side roads and neighbors are having issues. some of the major roads need work, but we're starting to see people come out to the parking lot because the w event sufficient -- weiss supermarket is open today. a lot of people have cabin fever and want to get out today.

some of the areas, even if you're plowed you have icy conditions in the parking lots. you want to make sure wherever you are you see rock salt before you step out of the car or you might have the issues. we were told about the side roads and problems people were having. a lot of people did try to head out in the blistered conditions and there's a couple of cars we're told that were stranded on cedar crest boulevard one of the major thoroughfares in the area. if you like the snow and you don't have anywhere to go you want to go sledding at cedar crest park, 32 imples is -- inches in the in the lehigh valley. you want to college out there, you know where the good sledding is, right annie? >> reporter: oh, yeah back in the day, especially on good sledding on snow days.

trish hartman is in south philadelphia. trish people have to dig out of the small streets, the last streets to get touched up by the plows. >> reporter: there's a lot of things to do, sun is up and people are up and at 'em. a lot of people out shoveling, we saw a snow blower earlier. we saw a guy with shovels and broom he is on the way to clear out the sidewalks near the church. a lot of people walking around in south philadelphia. it has presented problems for the folks trying to walk over the giant snow banks. we talked to folks earlier this morning. take a look. if you have to go to work tell me what it's like walking around? it's tired, the snow everywhere i'm tired.

especially with a luggage to get to a corner where you can get on flat ground you can't pull it behind you, it's a narrow pathway, you're like in the shining tracing your tracks from previous tracks. >> reporter: i love that analogy from the shining. it's tough walking on the giant mounds. this giant mound at moore and broad street has not been plowed, but a gentleman with a pick up truck went through and knocked it down. i wouldn't advice driving down moore street if you don't have four wheel drive. a lot of work to be done in south philadelphia. trish hartman channel 6 "action news." and your boots and legs getting the workout for you

today. thank you, trish. i think i'll do pushups when i leave from work, a lot of shoveling when i get home. let's look at traffic. karen what is it looking like? >> reporter: i want to show you a shot of 42. we had a spinout accident. the guy was able to clear out, but we are seeing people spinning out. disabled vehicles an issue, the snow banks not an issue here, yesterday they were digging out to remove the disabled. right now looks like he is kicking the tires. i-95 southbound past street road blocking the right lane on i-95. i want to switch our cameras and show you a different shot. the blue route near the schuylkill expressway they had traffic stops for ten minutes, crews are out there clearing the snow from the ramps. we had so many problems with the ramps connecting the blue route and the schuylkill.

let's take a look we want to see what's going on in audubon, a shot of trooper road. you can watch live as the plow truck comes through doing an extra sweep. we see snow on the roadway right here, watch for the snow on the side of the roads as well. we have 45-mile an hour speed restrictions on all the area roads as well as the new jersey turnpike, look for that with the speed restrictions. of course we have the flooding along the coastline, you still can't drive in the flooded waters. watch for local closures that picture sent in this morning. we have another picture showing the morning after the blizzard, the beautiful sunrise, but the streets covered with snow. there's a lot of digging out to do. on my facebook page i have updates and videos where we are trying to help you dig out. we want you to keep the pictures coming #6abcaction we'll find them and post them

upper 20s and low 30s. the surf is ankley out there, we're -- angry out there, we're seeing breakers ten to 15 feet compared to yesterday 18 to 22 feet. there's flooding taking place down the jersey shore, it's not as bad as yesterday at this time. shore impacts flood warning continues through noon today. high tide occurring now along the oceanfront, an hour later on the back bay. additional coastal flooding is likely. street flooding possible and buildings could be affected. once we get into the evening high tide everything calms down. 23 degrees in philadelphia. dewpoint, 9. the windchill 13 degrees. 14 in reading. 19 in allentown, 12 in the poconos. 22 for philadelphia. millville, 21. you factor in the winds, feels like 9 in millville.

minus five for the poconos and four degrees in allentown with a fresh snow pack of 3 1.9 inches. here's satellite and radar, everything continues to pull away. as you can see to the west there's not much going on. they have cloud cover across the great lake states most that stays there today. today is a bright and sunny day today. the pattern starts to quiet down. the low is close enough to provide a gusty breeze, most of the energy, the moisture is long gone across the canadian maritimes. as we get into monday the storm is farther out to sea. we see a combination of sun and clouds the numbers improve and the wind relax. windchills upper teens blow 20s throughout thing area. later everyone everyone falls back in the teens, 13 in allentown. 1 for the poconos. very cold windchills values tomorrow morning. 3 in lancaster, reading 11.

the blizzard of 2016. mobile 6 moving live right now in springfield, delaware county on woodland avenue. looking good right there. we want to thank all the street crews that have been good about plowing and all the emergency management folks, as well. everyone did a great job yesterday. an elderly person shoveling in the delaware valley is among the 16 storm-related deaths so far. five people were killed in new york. later this morning, governor cuomo will deliver the update. he got a firsthand look at the chaos on the roads.

one last look at weather. >> reporter: improvement today we'll be able to get the snow off the walks and the driveways. the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, take it slow out there. there's a lot of snow on the ground. 32 degrees sun and clouds, breezy. note the highs all week they are above freezing, but the lows are below freezing. so we'll see refreezing taking place and black ice and slick spots. take it easy.

>> reporter: let's look at the roads, i-95 by the walt whitman bridge. look at the spray. the roads are wet right here, not too bad. we've seen spinouts here and there. be careful as you travel. the vine by i-95 looking good. hopping into new jersey, the crews did a great job, 42 looking good, there was a spinout accident earlier here. take it easy. another look at i-95 delaware county. traffic moving okay. secondary roads not as good, septa subway making their way back to life. we'll see some service resume. we're digging out and cleaning up.
