begin, next up on "action news". it is a day of shoveling, scraping, plowing, and sledding this weekend's blizzard is in the books but things are no where near back to normal again.

sunday night and the big story on "action news" tonight is clean up in the wake of the biggest snowstorm we have seen in years. within the last hour the city of philadelphia a ended it the snow emergency and that means cars can once again, park along those snow emergency routes. >> for many after spending saturday sheltered in place, today was spent salting sidewalks and shoveling driveways and preparing for week ahead. if those plans include school we have an important update: all philadelphia public and archdiocese schools are closed for tomorrow. >> and that is, just the tip of the iceberg. we have been receiving school closings throughout our area all evening long. we have those closing, scrolling at the bottom of the screen right now. we have also listed them on our web site at six abc.com. we have team coverage of the clean up, and conditions out there right now. >> we will begin with what we can expect next, meteorologist melissa a magee is at the a "action news" big board with the first check of the accu weather forecast, melissa.

>> walter and sarah we will have a reoccurring theme over next couple of days. we have snow melt during the the day and refreezing later tonight and during overnight hours. currently in philadelphia coming in at 28 degrees. twenty-three in the the poconos. twenty-seven in reading. 16 degrees in the pine barons there in new jersey. it feels much colder especially where we have a fresh snow pack on the ground and that is essentially every where a across the delaware and lehigh rallies. satellite six with action radar showing you we have got a mostly clear to partly cloudy sky across the region. is there a weak disturbance riding off to the north and east and it stays a away from our region. clear skies tonight. temperatures will fall off fairly quickly. the call from accu weather tonight that winter chill continues. refreeze is likely. we will drop down to just nine in the suburbs and 15 degrees in philadelphia. we have northwesterly wind, that cools off the the atmosphere and dries everything out. future tracker six showing you waking up tomorrow morning at 6:00 a.m. temperatures along the i-95 corridor are in the teens. nine in reading. 18 degrees in the poconos. eighteen in dover.

coverage, jeff. czar, several roads here in sea isle city are still flooded. take a look behind me, this is landis avenue at 36. you can see that several blocks of this road are still, impassable. today was the day for homeowners and business owners to get out and assess the damage caused by the blizzard of 2016. clear skies over the jersey shore and the clean up from a stormy weekend gets underway. you can hear the the hum of generators in stone harbor as crews dry out this real estate office. flood waters poured through the town saturday and eroded the beach creeding this cliff at 98th street. >> the damage was bad, so there was more debris then there was from sandy laying all over the streets. >> reporter: throughout the day residents counted up their losses. >> the water just poured in. >> reporter: angel says that flood waters caused a minor fire in her home in sea isle city. >> i have a lot of light

furniture that has been passed down from the family and i have had for many, many years. >> reporter: so along the sidewalk here. >> yeah. >> reporter: in atlantic city this beach front property didn't farewell. our cameras captured powerful waves crashing down on it, tearing up the sidewalk and tossing this deck, yards away. power crews spent the day restoring electricity to thousands of customers in cape may county where high wind took down more than just power lines. the back breaking clean up is just beginning at the gym at tenth street in hard hit north wildwood. water here, reached a foot deep. >> we're in the process of cleaning up, and taking all of the mats up, power washing them. >> it is a big hassle. it is a pain in the neck. it really is. i wish we had more people to help us but it is really a pain in the neck. >> reporter: back out here live, we are looking at the receding waters on landis a at 36th. we are told much of this water should recede tonight the because it is so cold we are

seeing some icing up on the the road and that will be a big concern, tonight and tomorrow. as for power outages, just 700 customers in atlantic, cape may, ocean counties are without power. that is a a huge improvement from earlier this afternoon and those customers do not have their power restored tonight we are told they will be back on line, tomorrow. reporting live from sea isle city, jeff chirico for channel six "action news". >> thanks, jeff. storm has claimed the lives of 25 people across the united states, including several here in our area an officer with the u.s. capitol police died of a heart attack while shoveling snow at his home in delaware. a man from allentown also collapsed and died while shoveling snow. another man from berks county died when he became trapped inside of his vehicle by a passing snowplow which blocked in his car and covered the straws pipe with packed snow. the 56 year-old man was found slumped over the wheel of his car just before 6:00 o'clock last night by someone digging out their own car.

officials say that person struck a air pocket filled with fumes and discovered the man's car buried underneath. septa officials say that it will be a a slow start tomorrow morning, at the agency works to resume services. the tonight officials said that just 30 to 35 percent of septa's bus routes are up and running again. on top of that, between 30 and 35 percent of parking spots and septa stations are out of use because they are still buried in snow. septa officials said that they are hoping to build momentum tomorrow morning. >> we're doing what we can, bringing people in early to make sure that they will operate, but it is going to be a slow start. we will pick up rhythm and getting as the day goes on. >> there is some good news, all of the three regional rail lines will be up and running for sure for tomorrow's commute. we have a running list of septa updates on our web site the at six abc.com, and septa official are planning to provide another update at 6:30 tomorrow morning.

airlines are slowly resuming services out of philadelphia international. the the airport shut down yesterday, allowing crews the opportunity to remove the the nearly 2 feet have of snow that fell there. airport officials tweeted out photos of those crews hard at work today. according to flight aware, another 330 flights, in and out of philadelphia, were canceled today. and just outside philadelphia the suburbs got its share of snow as well. "action news" reporter christie lleto is live from malvern where people there are still digging out, christie? >> reporter: that is right, they got more than 20 inches of snow and anywhere you go around this area we will see mound of snow, lining neighborhood streets, and even business parking lots. >> no way i was getting in the driveway. the drifts were probably like here. >> reporter: gretchen is in her fourth hour trying to clear a snow packed driveway after mother nature dumped 28 inches in malvern.

about right now. >> i knew it would be a long night. >> reporter: main road may be clear but a lot of secondary road look and feel like they are very snow packed and slippery. it is something you will want to be mindful of heading out the door tomorrow morning. reporting live from malvern, christie lleto for channel six "action news". >> christie, thank you. to philadelphia now where officials have announce there will be no trash or recycling pick up tomorrow, that is because the the city needs those trucks for plowing the the streets. on action cam, we were on market street in center city tonight. they are trying to prepare at area for the morning rush are. bulldozers picking up giant piles of snow and moving it off to the side. there are not a lot of places to put all of that snow, so driving and walking will continue to be tricky for some days to come. we spoke with a penndot official tonight who says that crews will be working throughout the night to try to make the streets and highways safe. >> the biggest challenge we have tonight is refreeze.

temperatures are dropping down in the suburban area to the mid to lower teens. that is a challenge for refreeze. >> there will be more than 160 penndot trucks treating the road around the region overnight. a section of the pennsylvania turnpike near pittsburgh has finally reopened after hundreds of vehicles were stranded during that massive winter storm. more than 500 cars, trucks, buses, have been stuck on friday night after that area received more than 35 inches of snow, the turnpike ceo has vowed an extensive review on the situation, and a response. some of those people stranded included the duquesne university mens basketball team and the temple university's women's gymnastics squad. back home on temple's campus tonight safe and sound, and no worse for wear. the temple university lady owls gymnastics team home from their snow bound ordeal on the pennsylvania turnpike. they never made it to their destination, a tournament in pitberg, and they were stuck on the turnpike for 30 hours, and keeping in touch with their home base, and six abc, by social media. >> everything is a learning lesson and just letting them understand that we cannot control every situation all the time and that is something we have learn from being student athletes, that you have to kind of make changes when changes occur. >> reporter: ladies had no idea how closely their situation being followed here at home. back on campus they call their snow bound experience valuable and uplifting. >> it was quite an experience. we were not really expecting this much snow and getting stopped on the road, but, the team really bonded this weekend and it is definitely something to tell next generations. >> the chemistry was there with the team but we just got

helping to shovel out his neighborhood today in, wilmington delaware. senator carper told us he likes to work out every day, and shoveling snow is nothing else, it is a great work out. two fugitiveness california, ended up, turning themselves in because they were afraid of the cold. the men bolted from a car friday after they were pulled over near sacramento. one of the men had four active warrants for his arrest, and the pair, ran into a snowy canyon and across an icy river. hours later, one of them called 911 because they were freezing, and afraid of dying. the rescue crews found and arrested them saturday morning, and sheriff officials said that they have never seen two men, so happy, to go to a warm, dry, jail cell. there you have it. >> much more to come on "action news", the snowstorm prevents you from getting to the bar, perhaps the the bar can come to you. how some travelers, toasted this blizzard in style. and taking a look at center sit the friday our temple university camera, a chilly night the out there,

sincerely, alex payne. valley have their work cut out courtesy of yesterday's blizzard. allentown area received nearly 32 inches of snow setting a record for one day snowfall in that area allentown's mayor has asked everybody for their patients a as they are quickly running out of places to put all of that snow. in bucks county people were using their sleds as much as shovels. action cam found people enjoying snow at this hill on stony road in warwick. and it was all about plowness montgomery county as well, action cam found trucks out, this afternoon. this is video that they were clearing the snow from route 309. and, this is video captured by a drone, showing some of the beach erosion, in bellmawr, new jersey. bellmawr's mayor mountain math doherty shot video as he believes the town's preparations, did pay off, but
