we are following breaking news from california. an active shooter is reported at the navy center in san diego. they handle wounded barracks for sailors and marines. they have advised all occupants to run, hide or fight. officials are asking all non-emergency personnel to stay away from the compound. again, it's in san diego, california. we are waiting to get more on this situation. stay with 6abc.com for updates. the other big story is the long way of a welcome sight of a snowplow. days after the snow stopped falling, many smaller streets are still covered in snow. the people are anxious for the city to come and dig them out. annie mccormick is live now at broad and washington with more. >> reporter: sara, this is the spot at broad and washington where they are bringing all the tons and tons of snow they are

removing from the neighborhoods. since friday they received 25,000 requests for snow removal. at broad and washington this snow dumping operation is a well oiled machine, just a few days since the epic blizzard slammed philadelphia. many residents on smaller streets are trying to dig out. >> you could clean off your car but where do you put it. there are mtss of snow. >> he was glad he thought ahead and parked on a busy road, many neighbors are waiting for a plow to come through. there are pockets throughout the city, at 18th and ritner the sound of plows were music to their ears. >> the city came back and took away the piles of snow. a lot of time the smaller trucks

channel 6 "action news." new jersey governor, chris christie, is sparking new controversy in noon in response to the flooding at the jersey shore. this started with a question at a town hall meeting in new hampshire last night. the student asked the governor why he was campaigning instead of returning to new jersey to clean up. >> you want me to go down there with a mop? the fact is -- >> governor christie also said that no one had to be evacuated. but officials in cape may county say otherwise. according to north wildwood mayor, 150 people were rescued from their flooded homes and the flooding was worse in his particular community than it was during superstorm sandy. in response he called the mayor crazy and the mayor fired back saying he is disappointment in the evident lack of concern the governor is showing. we learned that christie called the mayor to address the

situation and trish hartman will have more details later today, she is heading back to the shore to cover this story and the efforts to repair the damage. her live reports begin on "action news" at 4:00. some freezing rain moves through later today in spotses. sky 6 hd taking a live look at the center city skyline. right now it's cloudy but dry and accuweather is tracking spotty showers later today. for more on that karen rogers is in for david murphy. >> reporter: hi sara, we are looking at stormtracker 6 live double scan we are looking nice and clear at this point. a little bit of green there is just ground clutter at the radar site no sign of freezing rain we had this morning, you can watch that area of blue, that tore through central pennsylvania and left a little bit of freezing drizzle if parts of our northwest suburbs especially. but now that is long gone and we are dealing with lots of clouds and there is rain to the southwest and that will impact

us later this afternoon. how about these temperatures, very mild, especially in philadelphia and areas to the south and east. 46 in the city, but 50 already in millville. 46 in sea isle city and 51 in atlantic city, we have a lot of snow and doing a lot of melting, 36 in allentown un36 in reading, temperatures are rebounding after a cold start. you look at the teens at that point in the lehigh valley, so looking better there. we have a few showers coming our way and we'll see lots of clouds and a lot more melting going on with the high temperatures. we'll have a refreeze especially i-95 and north and west. and as you head out for your evening commute, an evening with lots of clouds and showers, and 46 by 5:00 p.m., and lots of clouds and 45 and more in the

evening hours. 6:00 p.m. 43 and we'll talk about the warm-up and see how long it lasts in the accuweather forecast. >> thank you. the crews are trying to clean up the estimated 42,000 gallons of heating oil that spill nood the schuylkill river. federal state and city agencies are using absorbant materials to evacuate the materials. the cause of the spill remains under investigation. a federal judge told congressman, chaka fattah today to change his decision on campaign fun raising and instead raise money for his legal defense. he and four others are facing corruption charges but fattah's attorneys are asking them to dismiss them from representing the congressman because they say they are not getting paid and the judge heard the request and

did not make an official ruling but requested why other lawyer was take the case and not get paid themselves. the judge said today he does not want to delay the case. later today, leaders in atlantic city are considering asking the city for permission to declare bankruptcy. the resort town is unable to climb out of trouble and last week governor christie denied an aid package. he and the atlantic city counsel scheduled an emergency meeting at 4:00 this afternoon. even if they agree to file for bankruptcy they have to get approval from the state. we are just six week as way from the iowa caucuses, it shows the frontrunners from both parties in competitive races. >> reporter: good afternoon dts did the is lasering in on his chief competitor who is

a texas family is now homeless after an 18 wheeler slammed into their house. the truck burst into flames destroying all the family's belongings, fortunately they were not hurt and they are vowing to rebuild on the same property and a truck driver and passenger were treated for minor injuri injuries. some california residents are refusing to evacuate their apartment building even though it may fall into the ocean. pounding waves and heavy rain has been wreaking havoc this winter but despite the danger some long time residents say they will not go. >> they have to physically drag me out. >> i'm not leaving and my neighbors are not leaving

either. >> engineers are trying to fortify the bluffs with boulders and concrete. and three felons are still on the run after an elaborate jail break near los angeles. they cut through a metal plate and went through tunnels to the roof and used ped streets and towels to repel 50 feet to the ground. they want to know how the trio got behind three security check points undetected. two are serving time for murder and the other kidnapping. and now officials are facing charges because of video from planned parenthood. they work for an organization that opposes abortion and they allegedly said they were from a company and went inside and took videos. they say it shows planned parenthood selling tissue for

profit. and a grand jury says that planned parenthood did nothing illegal. isis organization may be running a passport industry, allowing supporters to possibly sneak into the united states and other countries. fake syrian passports were used by suicide bombers in paris back in november. officials are aware of the possible fake isis passports. the pontiff urged him to combat terrorism in the mideast and called on iran to push other countries in the mideast to do that was well. iran is free from economic sakss after scaling back their nuclear program. coming up at 12:30, the

you are back. the x1 voice remote is here. breaking news now out of california. you are looking from a chopper here as an active shooter is reported at the naval medical center here in san diego. we know the images have shown people walking calmly from the facility. the gunshots were heard in a building that houses offices and barracks for wounded sailors and marines here. again at a naval medical center

in san diego. a navy official says that a shelter in place order has been iss issued and there are no reports of injuries so far this is reported 8:00 california time and 11:00 here on the east coast, authorities are responding to the scene, and again it was this morning that navy official saying that a century at the naval medical center received a report from someone that claimed they heard gunshots fired in the vicinity of building 26. that is where offices and barracks are located as well as the gym and base security, san diego police are on the scene and everybody is sheltering in place at the moment. we'll continue to monitor the situation here, and at the moment we don't see a lot of activity. that may be a law enforcement person there standing outside but we'll monitor this from the chopper shot here in san diego california where an active shooter is reported at a naval

meteorologist, karen rogers is here now way closer look at what could be a soggy accuweather forecast. >> we have a few showers coming our way this afternoon. some clouds and dreary out there now. stormtracker 6 live double scan looking outside and dry for now. there will be some later this afternoon but spotty in the area. why not go to cape may, sky 6 hd looking live, see some of the snow on the sides of the street right there, and the ocean kind of quiet. 46 degrees the temperature, temperatures well above average already normally a high of only 40, and the dew point is 41 degrees, and the winds out of the west at 14 and the pressure is falling, satellite 6 along with action radar showing lots

of clouds in place and there are the freezing rain showers that moved through parts of the area this morning. they are long gone, we can start to see showers coming in from the south and west. future tracker 6 showing not a lot of precipitation just spotty showers, we see a few of these moving through and temperatures in the lehigh valley, above freezing and we see it race through the area a few evening showers here and there. this is 4:30 in the morning and this model shows it all moving out there. lets look at the highs around the region, we see a bit of variation. 48 for your high in philadelphia and lehigh valley, upper 30s and parts of south jersey the low 50s. 52 in millville and 53 in atlantic city and the temperatures are really rising today. lets look at how we get there, 2:00 p.m. 47 and 5:00 p.m. 46

and 8:00 p.m. 39 not terribly wet but a couple of sprinkles away. and 10:00 p.m. 39 degrees. that is the forecast and how the temperatures are getting there. a lot of people are talking about the coastal low we are watching for friday and at this point we checked the latest models, everything looks to keep the low off the coast so it does not impact us. but close enough that we are keeping a good eye on it. we could see a few flurries from the clipper system that moves through and that doesn't amount to anything, but this is friday the forecast we are watching and it looks dry other than a couple of flurries and watching the coastal low off the coast. here is your seven-day forecast. lots of clouds and showers coming your way this afternoon and evening, the temperatures really racing up there. tomorrow we start with clouds and get sunshine back. and 42 and lots of melting once again, and thursday partly sunny skies and a bubble of low pressure overhead and chilly, 37

we are beginning this half hour now with breaking news from california. the medical center in san diego reported on their facebook page that there is an active shooter on their campus at this hour. it allegedly happened in building 26, they tell people to run hide or fight. and there is a number of military personnel on the compound and that is why the message was given. a short time ago the navy official said they received a report that someone heard gunshots fired in the vicinity of building 26 and a shelter in place was issued and no reports of injuries at this time. we are monitoring the situation from this chopper picture here in san diego and we'll update you here online at 6abc.com and
