justice antonin scale y scalia an influential conservative voice on the court has passed away at 79. saturday night i'm walter perez. the big story on "action news" is death of anton inn scalia. he was born in trenton. he was discovered dead this morning at a resort in texas. tonight battle is already underway to determine his successor. the sudden vacancy on the court has added a new hot button issue to the presidential campaign ace sparking a a fierce debate over decision that could reshape the court for years to come. story now from abc's lena zach. >> reporter: just advertise scalia was men for his razor sharp mind, his witt and his passing leaves a tremendous hole in the supreme court. the justice antonin scalia was known as conservative anchor of the supreme court, and his sudden death was mark by republicans, and democrats alike. >> he influenced a generation have of judges, lawyers, and

channel six "action news", walter. >> thanks, jeff. fire fighters had to battle those frigid temperatures as they for the a six alarm fire in the city a's frankford section. three people, including a fire fighter were injured. the flames broke out at joe's auto body shop in the 4600 block of griscom street the at 9:30 this morning. the fire then spread to about half a dozen buildings a along frankford avenue. it was enough to force the shut down of a nearby frank for el line. the fact that officials say the trains likely won't start rolling again on the frankford el again until tomorrow. now none of the injuries are considered life threatening and there is no word how the whole thing started. officialness lebanon county now say that snow squals were a factor in a 50 vehicle pile up that ended with three people killed, and many more injured. the crash happened on i78 just before 10:00 o'clock this morning right there in fredericksburg. the tractor trailers and trucks were all tangled up across three lanes of the highway 406789 people were hospitalized and 70 others went to emergency shelter to get out of the coal. a bus carrying the penn state

lehigh valley mens basketball team was among the vehicles involved. several members of the team and staff were taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation, but we're told that no one on board the team bus was seriously injured. a towering figure in philadelphia journalism has died. acel moore, former reporter, columnist, and editor of the philadelphia inquirer passed away last night at his home. moore won a pulitzer prize and was one of the first african-american reporters for paper. he spent 43 years there writing store that is shined a light on the communities and people living there who would have otherwise been forgotten. moore mentored thousands of young people over the years and was a founding member of the national association of black journalist. today "action news" reporter vernon odom remembered mr. moore. >> he was a crusader to more and more black journalist hired to integrate news rooms not only in philadelphia but across the entire nation.

>> mr. moore is survived by his wife linda a wright moore, his son acebefore. injury and his daughter. acel moore was 75 years old. friend and family gathered to remember a philadelphia police officer, john pawlowski. they gathered at broad and olney in the logan section where officer pawlowski was shot and killed seven year ago this month. he died breaking up a dispute voluming a man. the shooter has been since sentenced to life in prison. hundreds turned out for an emotional good bye for a young boy who tied during a house fire last week in norristown. twelve year-old sanford harling the third died in a fire at his home in norristown back in february 5th. family members say he had made it out of the fire but ran back inside because he thought that his father was trapped inside. but his father got the out, and sanford affectionately known by the name of man man and family and friend was killed. we will have much more at 11:35 on the youngster being hailed a local hero.

the six remaining republican presidential candidates took part in the debate tonight in greenville, south consider line a jeb bush, ben carson, ted cruz, john kasich, marco rubio and donald trump faced off on stage exactly one week before south carolina voters head to the polls for first southern primary of the 2016 election season. in the wake of justice scalia's death they wasted no time arguing that president obama should lead the choice of nominating the successor. >> i think he will do it whether i'm okay or not. it is up to mitch mcconnell and everybody else to stop it. >> i wish the president would think about not nominating somebody. >> i do in the believe president should appoint somebody. it is not unprecedented. >> in fact only jeb bush said obama had every right to nominate a just advertise during his final year in office. and, on the democratic side, hillary clinton and bernie sanders were bus toy day on the campaign trail.
