we do not need to tell you this, it's cold. it's a brutally cold start to valentine's day. indeed it is, chris sowers is here with all the bad news. >> reporter: the bad news it is cold, the good news, this is it. we get into tomorrow it gets much better. it is a brutal area around the delaware valley. the coldest air of the season has settle the into the region. we have single digits and low teens across the area. i'll show you the numbers in a second. the windchill advisory is in effect until 9:00 a.m. a warning for the poconos. windchills are 30 degrees below zero in the higher elevations. everybody else windchills are ranging from 35 to 15 degrees below. minus 2 in allentown. minus ten in the poconos. 5 in reading and lancaster.

factoring in the winds feels like 13 below across the far western suburbs. minus 2 for philadelphia. and minus 2 for millville. a ton of spine expected, frigid 9 degrees by 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 11 degrees, you can see how the numbers start to climb, 18 by 3:00 p.m. 5:00 p.m., 18. somewhere in between we're topping out at 19 degrees that would be the coldest daytime high we've seen since the polar vortex visited us last february. dangerous cold stuff today. we're tracking snow in the seven-day forecast. and we're tracking a warmup and the potential of flooding rains coming up in ten minutes, guys. that harsh wind is whipping flags like this one in north philadelphia. the brutal wind has plunged

country are reflecting on the life and legacy of u.s. supreme court justice antonin scalia. justice scalia was from trenton but left his mark in washington, d.c. >> reporter: associate justice antonin scalia was found dead of a apparent natural causes at a resort in west texas. he died in his sleep. he was the longest current serving justice on the supreme court nominated by president ronald reagan in 198 of. getting nominated to the supreme court is a culmination of a dream. i am greatly honored that the president would have such confident in me scalia back the anchor of judicial conservative ism. it was the sheer force of his percent knelt he for three

the action cam was right there as flames raced from the auto body shop on bristol street. the blaze injured a firefighter and two other people. they are expected to be okay. as you can see the cold hampered efforts to knock down the flames. you can see frozen lines and frozen lights on the building, once you have water flowing and this type of temperature, it freezes up quickly. several people and pets were evacuated. they are waiting to hear if their homes are okay and what sparked the inferno. shuttle buses had to be used in place of the septa market frankford line for hours. the train is now back up and running in that area. lebanon county,i-78, at least three people killed and 40

others injured when sudden snowfall created whiteout conditions, 60 vehicles were involved in a series of crashes. the injured were taken to ten different hospitals. four medical hell corporates removed some of the -- medical helicopters removed the most seriously injured. there's new information from montgomery county health department from ursinus college. health inspectors found violations at the dining hall, open pesticides and dead bugs and improper hand washing. they did not uncovered any lingering violations. 192 people came down with a stomach bug this past week, classes are scheduled to resume tomorrow. pope francis will deliver a homily during mass in a crime ridden section of mexico city.

so glad you stayed with us, your time 6:20 a.m. police are looking for the person who shot and killed a man outside a west philadelphia bar. the action cam was outside the scene outside the rear entrance to nate's bar on the 5100 block of paxton street. a man was found lying on the ground shot several times. the victim was pronounced at penn presbyterian hospital. there's no word of a motive or

suspect. new this morning, someone slashed a woman's throat during a bar fight in frankford section of philadelphia. that fight started at 2:00 a.m. in the 7300 block of frankford avenue. several people were involved in a heated exchange. one person broke a bottle and slashed the throat of the 37-year-old woman she was taken to the hospital listed in critical condition. no word of a an arrest. a towering figure in philadelphia journalism has died, acel moore passed away last night at his home. he won a pulitzer prize was called a trail blazer. he spent 43 years writing stories shined a light on communities of people who lived there. he mentored thousands of young people over the years and founding members of the national association of black

the cold air out of here, tomorrow it will feel better, it is sitting over top of us right now. it will pull off to the east and into the canadian maritimes. this system will transfer into another system across the gulf coast states. that will ride the spine of the appalachians and track northwest pulling the milder air into the region and flipping the snow into rain. temperatures this afternoon swuk see we're not too big -- as you can see, we're not doing too much, 6:00, 15, 17, 18, those are the numbers by 6:00 p.m. for trenton, philadelphia and wilmington. we flip it over to the windchills, 16, 18. there's not too much difference in the windchill values versus the air temperatures. that means the winds will diminish, because it was brutal yesterday afternoon. as we look at the future cast, we'll start out with clouds

first thing tomorrow morning. the morning commute appears to be okay. snow will hold off at 9:30 around washington, d.c. and the virginias. snow of varying intensity throughout the afternoon. 3:30, you can see the snow throughout the air region changing over to rain by 6:00, 7:00, 8:00 a.m., it's rain for philadelphia points south and east, the rain snow line advances to the north, it's actually all the way up here, across upstate new york, vermont, new hampshire, may mai. tuesday afternoon it's a heavy, soaking rain, some areas could pick up one to two inches. a coating to an inch across interior sections of south jersey, perhaps one to three in the gray shade that doesn't include the nye -- i-95 corridor. places like reading and allentown, closer to 3 than the
