city airport 35 degrees but there's a warm front moving through so that means temperatures basically holding steady tonight, really not dropping off much so if you're out on the town on this friday night at 7 o'clock, 37, by 9 o'clock, 36 and by 11 o'clock, 35 degrees. while we're in the 30's right now, if you look to the west, cincinnati it's 65, chicago in february it's 62 degrees and that's the air mass that moves in tomorrow. so, look at this. a taste of spring. yes, this is typical of early april. tomorrow's high 62 degrees. sunday we drop down to 58 degrees. we're talking about temperatures 10 to 15 degrees above normal. so, kind of hard to believe by monday morning, some areas could be waking up to a touch of snow. i'll talk about that coming up in the full accuweather forecast. rick and monica. >> all right cecily thank you. a grieving mother's determination sparked a fight for safety in bucks county. tonight four years after tragedy struck that woman is celebrating a big triumph.

>> back in 2012 sharon rearick's son john was killed on new falls road. an addition to that road has been improved in hopes that what happened to him will never happen again. >> trish heart assemblyman in middletown township tonight with the full story. trish. >> reporter: well, rick, monica, this busy stretch of new falls road is where john rearick lost his life in 2012. a memorial still stands across the street and plans to make this stretch of road a little bit safer are under way thanks in large part to rearick's mother. >> we got the approval and i got the standing ovation. >> reporter: sharon spoke with "action news" in her levittown home her granddaughter on her happen less than a day after the vote she had been waiting for for four years. >> i started it as a grieving mother but everybody else helped make it happen. >> reporter: with the unanimous vote from bristol township council plans will move forward to install signs

along a stretch of new falls road where her son was killed by a hit and run driver. police say 23-year-old john was walking home from a bar in july of 2012. jonathan simmons later turned himself in and pleaded guilty but sharon wasn't satisfied. >> in the beginning they told me many other families have tried to do this. and have been unsuccessful. john was special ed. i learned how to fight in the very beginning. >> reporter: for years she collected signatures and went to countless meetings. in december she made another attempt out of desperation. >> i wrote a letter to the secretary of transportation. luckily richard is on facebook. never, ever expected her to respond. >> reporter: but richards did respond. then in january, news that penndot would pay $1.7 million for the sidewalk as long as middletown and bristol township agreed to maintain them. those votes came this week. >> we actually had customers come and sign petitions. >> reporter: the stretch of

road includes penn jersey. >> huge difference people can walk down new falls road without walking down the middle of the street. >> reporter: now rearick has started a nonprofit organization advocating for more sidewalks and pedestrian safety. penndot says the project is now in the design phase and if everything goes smoothly construction will be under way by next year. we're live in middletown township, trish hartman, channel6 "action news." monica. >> thank you. dupont says it will keep a major presence in delaware after its merger with dow chemical. once those companies merge, they will then be split into three separate sectors. today the companies announced their agricultural spinoff will be headquartered in wilmington. vernon odom will have more on what that means for local jobs and how delaware leaders are reacting to the news. that's coming up tonight at 6:00. >> right now thousands of people are paying their final respects to the late supreme court justice antonin scalia. let's take a live picture from the supreme court here in

video game consoles. >> from our new jersey news room tonight, local democrats say they've agreed on a plan to make the state's minimum wage $15 an hour. senate president steve sweeney and assembly speaker vincent preyacht tow initially had competing plans. today they announce add compromise. the plan would gradually raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour over six years. this afternoon new jersey business leaders bashed the plan saying would it have a "chilling effect." governor chris christie has also said he does not support such a measure. two local leaders took a pledge today to stop hate that divides our communities. pennsylvania state senator arthur haywood and philadelphia city councilman david oh signed an anti bigotry pledge in north philadelphia. the pledge created by the arab american institute promises to uphold civil discourse and not

engage in bigotry and also to speak out against those who do. >> it was an inspiring day for some north philadelphia high school students. today they watched a documentary detailing the fight for integration at girard college during the 1960's and it centered around cecil b. moore a philadelphia lawyer civil activist and freedom fighters. annie mccormick has more. >> reporter: a history lesson came in the form avenue documentary played before the students of crystal ray high school. cecil's people follows the cecil b. moore freedom fighters and their vigorous campaign to open girard college to blacks in 1965. it includes the stop martin luther king jr. made. >> now is the time to straighten up girard college. >> girard college was a complicated legal problem in which to overturn a will that denied access to school to people of color. >> reporter: the film truly came to life in the school's auditorium.

more on this story tonight. ali. >> that that official dr. bruce al ward is in charge of the zika response team. he says the mosquito borne virus will be "way down by the time the games begin for two reasons." one it will be brazil's winter so the number of mosquitos will go down and two, he says the venues are in confined areas so it will be easier to control the mosquito population. he also expects many brazilians to have developed some immunity by then. the country has recorded more than 1 million suspected cases of the virus. the concern is whether it leads to a serious birth defect in babies born to women exposed when they're pregnant. meanwhile the house is rejected president obama's proposal for $1.8 billion to fight zika virus. the lawmakers want the cdc to use money left over from the ebola fund. federal health officials say that's against budget rules and they still need the ebola money for ebola. cdc officials say they'll

continue their work to protect americans while the funding is being worked out. also today, a message about cardiac rehab. after someone suffers a heart attack or has heart surgery, they're prescribed a cardiac rehabilitation program. it can be life saving but less than 13 percent of people actually participate. cardiac rehab is typically a 12-week program where patients are given an exercise class with doctors and nurses monitoring your progress. they gradually build back unyour heart capacity. studies show people who do these programs are less likely to suffer another heart attack, less likely to go back into the hospital and more likely to live longer. >> it's really crucial because it's not just about exercising. it's about learning how to eat, learning to stop smoking, controlling your stress factors. it's really a crucial part of having a healthy life after your heart event. >> cardiac rehab is covered by most insurance plans after

through. temperatures essentially holding steady, not dropping much. 32 degrees in the cooler suburbs, about 34 degrees for center city, winds out of the south-southwest up to about 14 miles per hour. and tomorrow winds could gust up to 30 miles per hour but they're southwesterly so this is going to be pulling up unseasonably warm air. what a difference a week makes. 62 degrees in philadelphia. allentown 58. cape may 54. and dover getting up to about 61 degrees. so, future tracker showing sunday at 3 o'clock temperatures a little bit cooler behind a cold front that moves through tomorrow night. 58, 57 degrees in philadelphia, probably reaching a high of about 58 degrees. temperatures in the upper 40's across the lehigh valley so still on the warm side. so, when we do see a touch of snow in the far northwest suburbs, that should really be melting on the ground. sunday at 9 o'clock we begin to see low pressure moving along that stalled frontal boundary and you can see that there is going to be kind of a thin soap of some wet snow

on 6abc.com. also abc news reporters and cameras will be out in force as voting ends and the results come in. our coverage starts at 5:00 p.m. tomorrow. >> in other news tonight, the deadly drunk driving case involving texas affluenza teenager ethan couch is moving to adult court. that means the 18-year-old could face 120 days in jail, then finish his 10 year probation. couch was given that sentence following the 2013 crash that killed four people. couch and his mother disappeared back in december as investigators looked into whether he'd violated his probation. they were later found in mexico and deported. >> ♪ now to an important consumer alert for anyone who owns a hoverboard. the government is cracking down on the two wheeled scooters saying they are unsafe n a letter to manufacturers, importers and retailers the u.s. consume are product safety commission says it will seize or recall any hoverboards if they fail to meet federal safety standards. this is due to 52 reports of

fires caused by hover boards in 24 states since december of last year. federal authorities say many of those incidents wouldn't have happened if the units met existing standards in the first place. several airlines and college campuses including temple and rutgers have already banned hover boards. >> world news tonight with david muir will have much more on the government ruling on hover boards as well as the presidential race going into the weekend. you can watch it all tonight at 6:30 following "action news" at 6:00. >> the delaware state fire marshall is investigating a two alarmer that destroyed a business in new castle and center a firefighter to the hospital. this morning's huge flames and lots of smoke poured from the building here in the 300 block of west bay boulevard in new castle. this is a vehicle repair garage owned by the cirillo brothers company. the firefighter hurt is in serious condition at christiana hospital. the red cross is now helping one person who lived above that garage. >> one person -- >> and a person was hospitalized after this

accident involving a tractor-trailer on i-95. chopper6 hd was over the northbound lanes near the walt whitman bridge about 6:30 a.m. the driver of this big rig lost control and crashed into a car as you see. that accident caused big delays during the morning rush. >> two men have been arrest heed for dumping a missing south jersey teenager's body in a rural area of salem county. they are charged with conspiracy and desecration of human remains. danielle minerva's body was discovered in a wooded area in allowaalloway townshiply she had been reported missing by her familiar in october. the cause her death has yet to be determined but police say there were no obvious signs of trauma. it has been 11 years to the day since danielle imbo and richard petrone jr. were last seen alive. today the fbi issued another plea to the public for any information. imbo and petrone were last seen leaving a south street bar in the late evening of

february 19th, 2005. they were riding in petrone's black 2001 dodge dakota pickup. investigators have turned up few promising leads but have not found the couple or the car. >> public's help is critical. we can't do anything without the help from the public and the leads they brought to us last time were great and we hope the same thing happens this year. >> there is a $50,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. anyone can can commit a tip to the crime commission. the number is on the screen,. >> the man who led police on a car chase through wilmington is in jail tonight charged with murder. robert smith killed his girlfriend. after his body was discovered police identified smith as a suspect but he left the scene before officers arrived. later that evening police spotted him driving on i-95. they began chasing him until smith crashed his car here in the 1500 block of linden

street. smith was taken to the wilmington hospital for minor injuries. he is now in police custody. also from our delaware news room an update on a story we first brought you yesterday. the state board of education has approved a controversial plan to redistrict wilmington schools. the city's much indication improvement commission recommended the changes. they include removing the christina school district from the city and moving those students to the red clay district. the plan now goes to the general assembly for approval. >> well, you've heard of therapy dogs. therapy horses. well, how about a therapy pig? health and life skills programs in burlington cape may and cumberland and salem counties. max's job is to work with clients of all ages. >> he'll come up and he'll just sit in your lap and by being there and holding him it brings a calmness to that child. >> if somebody is feeling down an animal is a huge distraction and makes you feel a lot better and we've seen -- me seeing max today very exciting. >> scared me at first but then he's cute and i was surprised. >> reporter: you like him. >> yeah, i would like to be around him more. >> reporter: max has been doing this for about a month now and he really seems to like the attention and interaction. no doubt about it, he's a real ham. >> our goal is to take him out to schools so he's scheduled to go to the salem county special services school soon and eventually we'll bring him to nursing homes. >> reporter: max lovers to be bundled up. can you say pigs in a blankets. the little porker works out of the vineland office.

little bit like spring. storm tracker6 live double scan showing. >> bermuda shorts. >> really you think? i don't know if it's going to be that warm. we have dry conditions out there this evening despite a good amount of cloud cover. the action cam in somers point new jersey where you may want to consider heading to the shore this week. it's going to be that nice. lots of clouds upstairs but those clouds are ahead of a warm front that will bring us a springlike weekend. right now, though, it tell feels like winter. 37 degrees in philadelphia. down from our high of 39. allentown 36. atlantic city airport 35. wilmington 34. and the poconos currently 27 degrees. satellite6 along with action radar, this low pressure shoots up to the north and what it does, it pulls this warm front through tonight and that will put us squarely in the warm sector of the system tomorrow. so, tonight mostly cloudy with winds out of the south-southwest. temperatures essentially holding steady. colder suburbs down to about 32, philadelphia 34 degrees and then temperatures off to

the races tomorrow. big change from last weekend. last weekend we had this big dip in the jet stream with that arctic air pulling down. this weekend the jet stream buckles to the north and that pulls in temperatures in the 50's and 60's and 70's really not too far to our south, so enjoy it. i want to compare last sunday to this sunday. last sunday the high was only 20. the wind chill made it feel like 10 degrees below zero. this sunday, 58 degrees, so it's going to feel close to 70 degrees warmer this sunday than last sunday. that's 13 degrees above normal. but there is some precipitation moving in as we end the weekend. future tracker showing around 11 o'clock some spotty showers, lots of clouds and then we do have some rain moving into philadelphia in the wee hours of the morning but there's going to be a thin band of actually some wet snow, temperatures are very marginal for this so it looks like some wet snow in the northwest suburbs, out of here by monday morning by 8 o'clock just some leftover clouds but don't be surprised if you see

a grassy coating of some wet snow. the best chance of this would be north of the pennsylvania turnpike. the good news is with temperatures so warm over the weekend, all of that snow will be melting on the roads. so, the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, breezy and warm tomorrow, the high 62 degrees, partly sunny. on sunday, the clouds roll in, 58 degrees. that rain and wet snow sunday night and behind that system we cool things off. on monday breezy with a high of 49 degrees. then things get messy late tuesday looks like some rain, some wet snow moving in, 44 degrees. looks like this storm could actually come in pieces with a second low late on wednesday. the track will determine whether this is all rain or mick in the northwest suburbs, forty four degrees. whatever happens then, thursday clouds and sunshine, 44 and friday partly sunny, 42 degrees. models are all over the place on this storm next week. i will have a live chat on my facebook page at 6:45 to talk

>> ♪ >> "action news." delaware valley's leading news program. with ducis rodgers, meteorologist cecily tynan and jim gardner. >> ♪ >> friday night delaware is celebrating a business decision by dupont and dow chemical and a veteran delaware county teacher and coach now faces charges of sexual assault. but the big story on "action news" tonight is the search for bandits who pulled off a huge diamond heist in philadelphia. this is the surveillance video from early saturday morning when the pair of thieves broke into barsky diamonds on jeweler's row.

they came with nothing. they left with $400,000 in jewels. "action news" reporter gray hall has the full story. >> we need protection down on jeweler's row. >> reporter: jeff barsky owner of barsky's diamond center city asking for increased patrols after thieves target a story february 13th around 3:30 a.m. and got away with $400,000 worth of merchandise, mostly wedding bands and earrings. >> we used to have 24 hour police protection up to several years ago. this would have never happened. >> reporter: police released this surveillance video from the crime and hopes that that someone will recognize thieves. cameras got a pretty good image of one of their faces before they entered the store. officers say that the area is patrolled and they will continue to have a presence in the neighborhood. >> be very honest if i were going have a card sitting in any particular location throughout the night or 24 hours a day but we're conscious of the fact that's a heavily traveled area. >> reporter: investigators say this was no regular smash and grab. officers say these crooks
