they left with $400,000 in jewels. "action news" reporter gray hall has the full story. >> we need protection down on jeweler's row. >> reporter: jeff barsky owner of barsky's diamond center city asking for increased patrols after thieves target a story february 13th around 3:30 a.m. and got away with $400,000 worth of merchandise, mostly wedding bands and earrings. >> we used to have 24 hour police protection up to several years ago. this would have never happened. >> reporter: police released this surveillance video from the crime and hopes that that someone will recognize thieves. cameras got a pretty good image of one of their faces before they entered the store. officers say that the area is patrolled and they will continue to have a presence in the neighborhood. >> be very honest if i were going have a card sitting in any particular location throughout the night or 24 hours a day but we're conscious of the fact that's a heavily traveled area. >> reporter: investigators say this was no regular smash and grab. officers say these crooks seemed focused on which cases they wanted to break into.

detectives say nothing is being ruled out including an inside job. the criminals somehow managed to manipulate the remote security gate, pop the lock to the door and made their way inside and loaded bags with pricey jewelry. the store is now revisiting its security measures. >> we're working on things. we're not criminals. we can't -- you can't think like a crazy person thinks. >> reporter: this is not the first time that barsky's has been burglarized. in 2014 surveillance cameras captured these four people who police say eventually broke into the store. in this most recent case barsky is confident an arrest will be made. as police continue to investigate the burglary here at barsky's diamonds we can tell that you no customer events like weddings were impacted. if you have any information about what happened here, you should call police. in center city, gray hall, channel6 "action news." >> a long time delaware county teacher and coach is under arrest tonight. authorities say 52-year-old gregory stanczuk had an

inappropriate relationship with an 18-year-old student. he has been charged with institutional sexual assault which is a third degree felony. stanczuk is a physics teacher and a track and field coach at ridley high school. the school has placed stanczuk on administrative leave. there are still no charges against former eagles running back lesean mccoy or three friends, that after a fight 12 days ago with two off duty cops at a night spot in olde city. live is john rawlins. john, what is the latest on this. >> reporter: well, some provocative statements from the fop president john mcnesby today. from his point of view it's very clear-cut. a crime occurred what he described as a beatdown. mccoy should be charged by now he says. that prompted the d.a. respond to say that the investigation is ongoing, his job is to get it right, not to get it fast.

>> d.a. seth williams spoke publically for the first time today about the altercation at the after hours club involving lesean mccoy three of his friends and at least two off duty police officers. the d.a. said that prompted. >> an allegation of possible assault that took place at the recess lounge. >> reporter: williams would not go into detail but did push back at those who feel mccoy should be charged by now. williams said there will be no rush to judgment. >> my job is to make sure that we are able to marshall all the evidence to make sure we only charge the right people with the right crimes if the a all. >> reporter: john mcnesby of the fop one of those who feels there has been foot dragging. his take there was an aggravated assault. he claims the buffalo bills running back sucker punched one of the officers. >> i have been involved in over 4500 felony arrests. i've never seen anything take this long when it's this clear. >> reporter: two days ago mccoy's attorney was quoted in the buffalo news. i'm telling that you mccoy did nothing wrong. nothing wrong. and he was sober. the questions will have to be asked about the conditions of

other people. an attorney representing one of the officers said both have serious facial fractures from what occurred inside the recess lounge. yet fortunato perry says he is not concerned the charges have not yet been filed. >> we're confident that the completion of the investigation this attorney will charge whoever is responsible for this beating inside this nightclub. >> so, the investigation continues. the head of the fop says there should be charges or at least a charge by now. the d.a. says there is no deadline or table. the mission is to get this done right. live in spring garden, john rawlins channel6 "action news." jim. >> thank you, john. flags are flying at half-staff across new jersey today in honor of trenton native justice antonin scalia. and nearly a week after his passing, thousands have gathered in washington to honor one of the supreme court's most influential members. this morning scalia's flag

draped casket was carried into the supreme court building to begin a day of public mourning. the eight remaining members of the supreme court joined scalia's family for a short ceremony. president barack obama and the first lady also paid their respects this afternoon. live coverage from the supreme court of the final farewell to justice scalia continues on 6abc.com. and we'll bring you the funeral mass from washington, d.c. that begins tomorrow at 11 o'clock in the morning. and world news tonight with david muir will have the remembrances for justice scalia next at 6:30 right after our broadcast. there is some very good news on the business front in the state of delaware tonight. what looked like a corporate disaster for the diamond state the merger of dupont and dow chemical has at least been partially salvaged. "action news" reporter vernon odom has the story. >> reporter: the dupont company looked like it was about to call the midwest its

new home but much of it will apparently be staying here along with thousands of jobs in the planned merger of dupont and dow chemical of michigan. 1700 jobs in delaware have already been slashed. three independent companies will be created by this merger and word today that the corporate headquarters for the agricultural company and the spinoff specialty products company will be here in delaware. >> the fact there these folks will continue to be in delaware they'll be able to stay in their homes and all that goes with that, the revenue that would have been lost to the state i mean this is a huge win on a number of fronts. >> reporter: this new agricultural company would be the nation's largest of its type worth roughly $20 billion. to keep the still unspecified number of jobs here, the governor had to promise a number of tax credits and related incentives. delaware economic development officials are also offering the new company more than nine and a half million dollars in grant money for building new structures.

>> we came out on top of the three choices that they had. now, they're still going to have operations in the agriculture business in indiana and iowa which makes sense butter the fact that this will be where management is is a positive and is a win for us. >> reporter: random reaction from delawareans happy that the hemorrhaging of jobs appears to be stopped. >> great for the citizens of delaware. a lot of people they have families, they have mortgages, they have car notes. >> it's really sad to see what's happened to so many employees who have devoted their lives here so the more jobs saved the better. >> reporter: for two centuries, dupont has been the basic fabric of delaware's economy. not long ago, it appeared to be a pipe dream that the state would get to keep two-thirds of the merger spinoff. in wilmington, i'm vernon odom, channel6 "action news." >> in philadelphia congressman chaka fattah has retained a new defense team. fattah said that he had trouble paying his former lawyers because law focused on raising money for his reelection campaign.

despite the switch the judge plans to move forward with the fraud trial against fattah on may second. the 11 term democrat is accused of misusing campaign donations and charitable funds. and a heated trial took place in limerick today. the courtroom was a fourth grade classroom and the defendant was goldilocks. judge marjorie rendell presided over the mock trial held by students at blessed theresa of calcutta school. at issue today, whether goldilocks should be convicted of criminal trespassing for going into the home of the three bears. the youngsters had a chance to argue each side of the issue and learn about the judicial process. coming up on -- the verdict? i'm not sure. we'll find out. coming up on "action news" tonight it is thon weekend. the 46 hour dance marathon at penn state is now under way. we'll take you live to this extraordinary charitable event and a beloved school employee gets special recognition today by students and fellow staff.

that will go on for the next 46 hours and raise millions of dollars for the fight against pediatric cancer. and there for the duration is "action news" reporter clad clad pradelli. you know there are a lot of dance marathons around the country but nothing even remotely like this. >> reporter: as you know thon is the largest run student run philanthropy in the world. thon 2016 is under way. the dancers are on the stage. they'll be on their treat for 46 straight hours. theirone knee has now begun like you said, this is for the kids. kids with pediatric cancer and their families. this was the scene just a few moments ago as this thon began. here is the countdown. >> three, two, one, dance.

>> ♪ >> reporter: yes, thon is under way. the bryce jordan center here is packed. the spectators and supporters are in the stands. the sciences are being raised. the dancers are up on their feet and they are ready for their journey to raise money for pediatric cancer, the four diamonds fund and of course penn state hershey children's hospital. now, there are 700 dancers that are taking part but there are thousands of other students that make this happen. this is a year of planning to make thon actually get under way. there's all the committee members, the captains, those that help the dancers stay motivated, keep them fed. give them water. and help them to be entertained and many are from our area. we spoke with some of the dancers just a short time ago. about an hour away from getting on your feet for 46 straight hours. are you nervous? >> more excited more than anything. a little nervous but i'm ready for it. i've been training for it all semester so i'm ready to go. >> i am overwhelmed with emotion. we have been talking about

facebook.com/6abcaction news. a willow grove elementary school recognized a man today. they say embodies the spirit of a hero. students at fitzwater elementary school honored their custodian percy hearder during a school assembly today. hearder has been working at the school for 21 years. he has 28 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, so he knows that a little caring can go a long way. >> sometime on my bad days when i come in here, the kids just -- i see them sad and i just feel as though i got to perk them up. i forget about my own feelings sometime and make the kids happy. >> in honor of black history month, students here have been studying what makes someone a hero and they say herder is everything that a hero should be.

chilly side. 36 degrees down from our high of 39. allentown 36. millville 35. the same in atlantic city airport. wilmington 34. and reading 34 degrees. so, satellite6 along with action radar showing this is a system that will really have a big impact on our weather this weekend. this low pressure moves over southern canada. we get this warm front tonight. so with that warm front temperatures essentially holding steady. really not dropping much. 32 degrees in the cooler suburbs. 34 for center city. mostly cloudy skies. and then tomorrow we are in the warm sector of the storm. big change from last weekend. last weekend we had this big dip in the jet stream that arctic invasion. this weekend the jet stream buckles to the north. temperatures in the 50's and 60's, 70's not too far to the south. so, breaking down the week tomorrow really the better of the two days. good amount of sunshine. 62 degrees. a cold front moves through saturday night. comes through dry but knocks temperatures down a little bit, 58 degrees but still we're looking at temperatures 10 to 15 degrees above normal.
