here's some of the stories we're following on "action news." we have new information on a raging two-alarm fire that destroyed several condos in south jersey. it sent half a dozen people to the hospital. virtual kidnappers are targeting people in the delaware valley. police have a warning about the scams. the annual event known as thon is underway right now. it is 46 hours of nonstop dancing in happy valley. meteorologist chris sowers is happy outside he has a look at the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, hi, chris. >> reporter: how you doing gray? very, very nice this morning, everybody is happy. as we flip it over to the temperatures, keep in mind some areas the numbers you see in front of you right now, some areas were 50 degrees colder last week with the wind. a huge difference. high temperatures when all is said and done, will top out in the mid 60s. enjoy it. 41 in saint david. chester and center city, 43.

of sun and clouds. there's the high, 64 degrees arc beautiful start to the weekend. overall looks pretty nice, tomorrow is equally nice maybe more in the way of clouds, but temperatures are very mild. all of a sudden we have a sneaky system that will move in tomorrow night that could bring snow to parts of the area that are actually in the 60s today. we'll watch that and talk about that in a few minutes abbey of course the coastal storm for next week. that's straight ahead in the seven-day forecast. as for now, gray very, very mild out here. thank you. we begin with breaking news coming in from new york city, our sister station wabc reporting that two plain clothes housing police officers have been shot in brooklyn. a suspect was shot. everyone was rushed to the hospital this morning. there's no word on their conditions. we'll continue to monitor the situation and bring you the latest on "action news" and 6abc.com, as that information comes into the newsroom. back here at home, condo

residents in burlington county are looking for a new place to stay after a fire. chopper 6 captured the flames. the fire sent 6 people to the hospital. three residents and two firefighters and police officer were overcome by smoke billowing we are told they are okay. four units in the buildings of building 39 are a total loss. some buildings have water and smoke damage. a dog was rescued. the fire is under investigation. police have a warning about a disturbing scam designed to take your money. it's called virtual kidnapping. there have been a number of in the area over the past month. dann cuellar explains how it works. >> reporter: the fake kidnapping starts with a frantic call from a person you don't know who says a person you know has been kidnapped.

still worried for her safety the woman asked that we conceal her identity. the caller said he dead napped her daughter and wanted $1,000 for a safe return. he convinced me to follow his instruction and do what he said. >> reporter: the victim was instructed to stay on the phone as she went to a nearby western union and wired him the money. she wired him $800 which was all she had in the bank. the manual hung up. she made contact with her daughter and she realized she was scammed. i felt stupid, i did what i thought was right. >> reporter: police say there were 17 such cases in camden since january 24. the fbi calls them virtual kidnappings, they seem real. they use social media to learn about their victims, where they live, places they visit and friends and family. police say they have increase in

these kinds of incidents across the countries. the scammers are working over seas and are practiced at the art of intimidation. he did a good job convincing me of that. >> reporter: advice from police. they should not pay out any monies to anyone, again jot down the number and terminate the call and inform the police department. >> reporter: you should note that scammers use blocked or private numbers. be alert if you get country, slow down the conversation ask for more time text or call the person that was supposed to be kidnapped and called police. dann cuellar channel 6 "action news." a lehigh valley teenager has learned her punishment for assaulting a teacher during a pep rally in november. a 51-year-old female teacher was pushed down 20 rose of

bleachers. the judge ordered the 16-year-old girl responsible to do 40 hours of community service and attend anger management classes and write an apology. swat sprs -- officers took mark flemming into custody after trying to serve a warrant for charges allegedly triegd -- trying to intimidate a witness in in anther case. a legislative panel found governor christie was not aware of the george washington bridge. two christie aids at the time allegedly ordered closures because fort lee's mayor did not

endorse the governor's re-election bid. it is a heated battle for republicans and democrats in two states. candidates were making a final push yesterday before the primary in south carolina. donald trump holds a commandings lead in the palmetto state. he could get most or all of the 50 delegates. ted cruz took a jab at trump's campaign slogan let's make america again. hillary clinton and bernie sanders are in a virtual dead heat going into the nevada caucus. clinton was on the major population centers, sanders toured across the state. we'll have coverage of both

pediatric hospital and child had his -- childhood cancer. thon has raise $127 million. the record for one year is a little more than 13 million. sunday we'll learn how much was raised this year. thon is more than an event for the end of the year. it's a monetary reputation, but it rent so much more, we could raise a dollar or $20 million, we're making a difference in the life of a child, not just one child, but hundreds of children. >> reporter: this year's theme is believe beyond boundaries, cancer can put a ball where the boundaries seem limited. it's for the kids they are the inspiration to not sit or sleep and dance for 46 hours. i can't think of a word to be honest. it's so rewarding, you see all the work you put in throughout the entire year.

a cell phone captured deputies taking down a man inside a texas bar. look at this. watch as the wife slaps the deputy. the deputy goes after her, they fall on the bar floor during this scuffle. oh, goodness, a wild scene there. police say the couple asked to take their dispute with another couple outside the bar. the woman said the police were beating her husband. four angles chaos. an suv plowed into a crowded store in texas. two women were hit by the suv, one was pinned underneath the vehicle. nobody died. the driver in jail, police suspect alcohol played a role in the wreck. a wild time in texas. let's talk about the

forecast now, on a much happier note. >> reporter: the big story gray temperatures. it's the polar vortex retreated into the arctic circle. this weekend will be a gorgeous weekend start to finish, very mild temperatures. you look live at spring mountain. 43 degrees in philadelphia. dewpoint, 26. winds out of the southwest at 13 miles per hour. we have a windchill of 36. now, last weekend at this, the windchill would be 6 or # degrees below -- 6 or 7 degrees below zero. we had big swings in the temperatures. 33 degrees on monday, light snow, we saw the icing after that. tuesday we shot up to 60. we had a squall line of

thunderstorms roll through gusty winds, very april-like on tuesday. wednesday the cold front pushed through, down to 45. thursday and friday, temperatures were a little bit cooler than they should be for this time of year. 38 and 39, but that's not too bad considering what we dealt with last weekend. millville, 40. 33 in allentown. clear skies, trenton, 41. poconos 31. atlantic city, 43. wind speeds, zero in allentown, some areas approaching 15 miles per hour. winds will be out of the southwest 15 to 25 miles per hour with higher gusts at times. they had winds up to 70 miles per hour across the midwest. chicago reporting 70-mile an hour wind gusts. the bulk of that is pushing to the north, following that storm passing us by to the north. you'll see a breeze out there today. note everything is moving west to east. we're not seeing the arctic

influence this weekend, this is all pacific air that means mild changes this weekend, you can see how the jet stream changes from last weekend to this weekend. spring fever. when the jet stream runs west to east it's called a zonal weather pattern. winds out of the south. you don't have to go too far to the south to get into the 70s, panhandle of florida up in the 70s, some areas in florida could reach the 80s, nice warm spell today and tomorrow. secondary front right here, approaching from the west. we'll call it warm today, mild for tomorrow. cooler, very, very nice for this time of the year. this reinforcing cold front slides in by the middle of next week. it will drop into the 40s, so it will cool things off. with the coastal storm coming up the coast with a lack of true arctic air with the system it will mean rain not snow.

welcome back everyone, 7:24 saturday morning, i'm going to use this to set up the coastline storm this week we're zoom into eastern portions of canada. remember how cold it was up here last weekend. we had temperatures 40 and 50 below of this part of the continent. now the polar vortex has retreated so far to the north it's on the other side of the pole. with a lack of cold air in place this this go around we'll have no real true cold conditions. as we get into next week, the storm is develop across the gulf coast states and pull to the northwest of philadelphia and that means we have rain not snow. if we had the cold high here, we would have the air to draw into. it disunlt look like that will happen -- doesn't look like that will happen.

spared by his vest. the other officer was hit in his lower back below his vest. both were rushed to the hospital in stable condition. the suspect was shot multiple times, that person is in critical condition. more breaking news to tell you about. this time from vineland, current can county. police say a person was killed in this crash. this is video coming in from the 2700 block of east landis avenue. the car ran off the road and hit several trees. one person died, another person was airlifted to the hospital. two others were hurt. investigators remain on the scene trying to figure out what caused the driver to lose control. 7:33. as many as 4,000 people are checked to attend the funeral mass for the late supreme court justice antonin scalia, president obama and michelle obama paid their respects yesterday as his body lay in row

lives upstairs of me said his dog was in there. as soon as it looked like it was partially out, the firefighters started pointing to a porch they moved the ladders and apparently his dog made his way on the porch. they carried the dog down it seemed to be alive. the dog was taken to an animal hospital to get treated. the cause of the fire is being investigated. we know the red cross is helping those who were displaced by the fire. chopper 6hd capturing this dramatic picture of a brushfire on the grounds of sunoco refinery on the 1200 block of crown point road. the refinery is not threatened by the fire. there were no reports of injuries or evacuations. we'll keep an eye on the flames and bring you updates as they become available. 7:37 new this morning a chester high student is behind

bars accused of shooting a fellow student earlier this weekend. 16-year-old turned himself into police last night. officers say he brought a gun on a school bus wednesday. when he got off the bus at 12th and highland, police say he started shooting hitting another teenager in the backside. hernandez is charged as an adult with a number of offenses including assault. philadelphia police are searching for a pair of thieves who made off a with a pile of pricey merchandise from jeweler's row. you're looking at surveillance video as the crook smashed and grabbed their way to $400,000 in diamonds on sansom street. police hope someone will recognize the chris. new this morning, the university of scranton has suspended both the men and swimming programs amid allegation hazing. a spokesperson said they are looking into the allegations that team members violated a

sexual misconduct and sexual harassment and alcohol policy. no other details were given. we know that the scranton police chief said the department has not received a complaint to investigate it. police in buffalo, new york are investigating a possible hazing death. bradley doyly died on thursday, he was not a member of the fraternity, but the school has suspended that frat as police investigate his death and allegation of hazing at an off campus location. he was a member of the school basketball team and coaches and player say he was a leading and full of energy. i treat my players like a son. it's just like losing a family member. i don't believe it was his time to go, he was one of the nicest guys that i knew. investigators are waiting on an autopsy to determine the cause of death. there is a sign of relief this morning for residents of

moorestown burlington county. township officials switched to a new water after 16 months of contaminated water in the well there. the mayor said levels were too low to threaten the public's health. yesterday leaders decided to begin using water from a separate company new jersey american water. i'm happy the well has been shut down and excited that we got to that point. i think they heard what their residents want. the new water source will not be around for lock, the old old -- for long, the old well will be repierd -- repaired by spring. happy valley, it is thon weekend, they are dancing the weekend away, dancing for 46

valley. future tracker 6 today looks quiet, tomorrow is quiet, tomorrow evening the system rounds the bends and it could bring light rain to parts of the area, especially south jersey and delaware. there could a little light snow on the northern fringe of this, it shouldn't amount to all that much. monday and tuesday looks quiet. as we zoom in closer, 6:30, this will be tomorrow evening, starting out with sunshine and increasing clouds, the light rain overspreads the area. i do stress the word light. what you're not seeing the model is having a hard time picking it up. there will be light snow flying north of the pennsylvania turnpike. with temperatures falling off sunday night into monday morning, it will stick to grassy surfaces. not expecting a big accumulation out this. don't be surprise if you do, see a little accumulation when you wake up monday morning. we fast forward into tuesday night and wednesday, this is the coastal storm we've been
