the new jersey pageant in 2013. she was a graduate of princeton. new jersey correspondent nora muchanic is live in our new jersey news room and nora, you've got more. >> reporter: jim, the former miss new jersey started a job as an anchor at a small tv station in south jersey just a few months ago. her colleagues there are devastated by her death. they say she was a funny talented person way big future cut short by this terrible accident. >> just warm, kind and also so funny. >> reporter: sports director mike frankel is remembering the young woman who sat in the chair next to him on the news desk of snj today in millville. >> his supporters were outside sharing their message. >> reporter: 24-year-old cara mccollum of margate a former miss new jersey and the small starterup station's main anchor died this morning from injuries sustained in a one vehicle crash along route 55 in pittsgrove township on february 15th. >> she hadn't been a news anchor for that long but she already sort of found her stride in terms of a way to speak with people.

>> cara was in every sense of the word the total package. she was beautiful, she was smart, she was extremely hard working. >> cara mccollum. >> reporter: a graduate of princeton university cara mccollum was raised in arkansas. she was crowned miss new jersey in 2013 and represented the state in the 2014 miss america pageant. right before the competition she told our karen rogers she was happy competing as a jersey girl. >> being a jersey girl is about having some spunk and fire and overcoming any situation and that's something i've been living my whole life. >> reporter: mccool column started in television just a few months ago but already had fans. >> she came across like she was genuine. there's a difference you know what i mean. some people are -- she was always nice. >> reporter: miss america pageant today released a statement mourning mccool column's death describe leg as a vibrant intelligent exceptional young woman who was a proud advocate for women's education. her death was announced by her family on facebook where they

praised her decision to donate her organs. >> ♪ >> reporter: with her anchor claire empty coworkers say they're grateful to have known cara mccool column. >> it'mccollum. >> it's an incredible lost. >> reporter: social media posts from her family say that she was -- they were with cara when she died. her coworkers scrapped tonight's regular newscast jim and tonight they're putting together a tribute to cara. live in our new jersey news room i'm nora muchanic channel6 "action news." >> authorities say they made a deadly discovery after putting out a fire at a cape may county marina. they were called to the mobile park at 3 o'clock. the blaze starred in there a maintenance trailer and spread to two boats. once the flames were out crews found the remains of an unidentified man inside the trailer. philadelphia police have issued an arrest warrant for

mahogany terry. police say the 27-year-old mother left her young daughter at the center city mace macy's store after being caught trying to shoplift $1,400 worth of merchandise. the incident happened on february 11th. police say store security put terry in handcuffs but she managed to escape leaving her daughter behind. her three-year-old daughter is now under the care of relatives. holding nothing back, atlantic city mayor don guardian has mounted a full scale attack against plans by the state of new jersey to take over his city. "action news" reporter walter perez is live at the big board and walter, guardian pledged cooperation with the state for weeks but apparently he now thinks he has a better idea. >> reporter: that's right, jim and that idea entails more of a partnership with the state rather than a takeover but governor christie and many state officials say ac is on the brink of going broke and time for partnerships has passed. surrounded by city officials and local leaders, atlantic city mayor don guardian delivered a passionate 20

minute speech that described the state's plan to take over ac as nothing short of a "fascist dictatorship." >> unilaterally sell lease or privatize all atlantic city owned assets unilaterally abolish nonelected positions and terminate all employees. >> reporter: guardian also says there is no way the state will be able to compensate for what he describes as an oversaturated east coast gambling market by simply slashing the city's budget. instead the mayor wants the state to come up with a proposal that would map out an economic recovery plan while allowing the city to maintain its sovereignty but many state officials say it's too late for that. governor christie's office released a statement a short time ago in response to guardian's press conference. it reads in part atlantic city's local leaders have been given over five years and two city administrations to deal with its excessive spending and structural budget deficits "atlantic city will either have the money to pay their bills or they will not. today was nothing more than

political posturing. still officials from ac are planning to fight this proposal to the very end. >> this is an insult to democracy and to american citizens living in that atlantic city. >> reporter: now today's news conference also included threats of lawsuits something that officials who support the plan say comes as no surprise. either way though at the current rate it's estimated that atlantic city will go broke by this coming may. jim. >> thank you walter. delaware river port authority police have just released this video of jahlil okafor speeding over the ben franklin bridge last october. okafor was charged for driving at 108 miles an hour. last week the sixers center reached a plea deal to dismiss reckless driving charges. he paid a $439 fine for "quote unsafe operation."

20-year-old ryan farrell faces homicide by vehicle charges. police say farrell was street racing 20-year-old christopher bloomfield along sandmeyer lane in somerton last july when they crashed. bloomfield's three passengers fill like that pea hernandez sabrina rose and yvette gonzalez were killed. police arrested bloomfield on saturday. he was charged with homicide by vehicle and dui. the wife of bill cosby had no coins but t choice but to gia deposition. camille cosby was deposed in a defamation case brought by seven women. sarah bloomquist is live at the sat center with the full story. >> reporter: camille cosby's attorneys tried but failed to stop this deposition which to our understanding continues at this hour. so, all day today behind closed doors bill cosby's wife of 52 years has been answering questions under oath.

this is all part of a defamation lawsuit filed by seven women accusing cosby of sexual assault. camille cosby's attorneys arrived at the springfield, massachusetts, marriott this morning for her deposition. somehow she evaded television cameras outside. there inside a conference room in a cordoned off area of the hotel camille answered questions from the attorney representing seven of her husband's alleged victims who filed a defamation suit against the embattled comedian. over the weekend camille cosby's attorneys filed this emergency motion seeking to postpone the deposition. they argued that she is protected from testifying against her husband under massachusetts law adding a 71-year-old woman who has had no involvement with the facts or allegations underlying this case will be forced to testify at a public and unsecured venue creating an unnecessary media circus and personal security threat that serves no purpose other than to harass and embarrass her.

but the attorneys for the plaintiffs argued that mrs. cosby would have relevant information because she served as her husband's business manager for years. the judge ruled last night that the deposition must take place. more than 50 women have come forward claiming cosby sexually assaulted drugged or raped them. in december bill cosby was charged in montgomery county with drugging and sexually assaulting a former temple university employee at his elkins park home in 2004. cosby has consistently denied all the allegations. with his wife standing behind him. depositions in civil cases are typically private and sealed from public view but there are cases when that testimony can become public. again, our understanding is the deposition continues at this hour. there's no way of knowing how late it will go tonight or if it will continue tomorrow. live in the satellite center, i'm sarah bloomquist, channel6 "action news. jim. >> thank you, sarah. from our new jersey news room tonight, a bill that would raise the smoking age

from 19 to 21 has once again advanced in the legislature. an assembly committee approved the legislation today more than a month after governor chris christie declined to act on a similar bill. the bill would finery tailers up a thousand dollars if they sell cigarettes to anybody 20 years old or younger. it would not punish under aged smokers. if the bill passes, new jersey would become the second state behind hawaii to raise the smoking age to 21. more jobs, new lodging could be coming to wilmington riverfront. today a group of developers announced plans to build two new hotels, a 100 room home wood suites and a 200 room marriott. the developers say the hotels would create 200 jobs and generate millions of dollars in taxes. coming up on "action news" tonight, students in montgomery county went on quite an expedition today

expedition pioneer program where for a year they're showcasing this equipment for free at hundreds of different schools. there's a phone inside this cardboard viewer. teachers can load up more than 100 different scenes from the great barrier reef to the great wall of china and guide a tour on their tablets. >> while you're in it it teaches how to tell what you're seeing. >> i think it's a great way to get kids to have a hands-on experience, get to kind of see what they're learning about. >> reporter: look up, look down, look all around. 360-degree photo spheres, 3-d images and video and ambient sound make it seem like you're there. teachers decide how they want to apply this tool to their curriculums. >> these can kids have grown up with technology. they're digital natives. they've hit since the moment they were born. it's what they come to expect and so any opportunity we have to engage them with technology is something that we try and do. >> reporter: right now these trials are free.

could leave a little bit of a grassy accumulation but then really the rain takes over by the evening and then it pulls out. this is a quick hit. on wednesday morning a break in the action with clouds and light rain. however wednesday afternoon, wednesday evening this is when this low pressure really a powerful system h will cut to the west. what this means is the potential for heavy rain, an inch to an inch and a half. high winds higher in the atmosphere and this could lead to a gusty thunderstorm. could have localized street flooding. potential of wind gusts up to 60 miles an hour and the cold front will not be moving through until thursday and that could bring us additional showers. the next three days are going to look and feel a lot different than the past three days. so, the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, tomorrow will be chilly, the high only 42 degrees with generally light rain. a break in the action wednesday morning. wednesday afternoon, wednesday evening this is when that
