that's what we got. meanwhile the weather stopped a ground stop at philadelphia international. no flights going out or coming in. wednesday night, the big story on "action news" is a night of heavy, heavy rain and wicked winds. and while the tornado threat is now ending, we are facing serious flash flooding. the system sparking tornados down south barrelled into the delaware valley and it took a toll on trees, intern causing considerable damage. this is how it looked after a tree crashed into a house in new jersey. this was the scene in downingtown tonight where street lights were out. no electric treesity here. the storm has plunged tens of thousands of people in our area into the dark tonight. peco has nearly 15,000 pse&g

8300 outages mostly camden county. and atlantic city close to 10,000 and delmarva power under 800. and live in sheltonham, first we go to meteorologist cecily tynan. we had a tornado warning in lancaster county. does it mean it's likely a twister did touch down there? >> it was either a tornado or straight-line wind damage. something you typically do not get in late february. the storm system, the squall line that tryingled the warning in lancaster county at 7:30 has broken up and pushed north and east. it was sitting over philadelphia about 45 minutes and we got the training of the heavy rain. now it is really beginning to lift up. it is between i-95 and the jersey turnpike and stretching south of trenton. 15 lightning strikes associated with it. it is beginning to lose a lot of wind energy, but i show you the rainfall rates. starting transition where the main concern is the potential

for flash flooding. where we have the purple, that is it rain falling at the rate of two inches her hour. that really was sitting over philadelphia for the bet are part of the past hour. because of that, we have a lot of flash flooding. the highways are a mess. the flash flood warning really right along the i-95 corridor until 2:30 and a flash flood warning for lehigh valley until 2:00 tomorrow morning dropping a tremendous amount of rain, 1 1/2 to 2 inches. and the possible tornado near county, and a tornado watch extended now for new jersey. and over for delaware and pennsylvania extended until 1:00 for new jersey. and talking when the storms finally exit the coast in the full accuweather forecast. jim? >> thank you, cecily. talking about flash flooding going thrive to "action news" reporter dann cuellar on township line road in

cheltenham. what are you seeing there? >> for over an hour it was rocking and rolling. and reminded me of hurricane floyd when it sat over us and poured and poured and poured. it was coming down so fast the water had no place to go. that meant the streets were beginning to flood. this is what we saw tonight in cheltenham and township line. and you can see, i mean the car is trying to get through here. this water was coming down so fast. and they were trying to get through, a lot of these little roadways here that you find in cheltenham township. it was amazing to see the water come down at such an incredible speed, and to watch within minutes these roads were beginning to flood from the flash flooding we saw on here. now there was also other problems that were going on here. we saw downed trees.

of course here on the township line, this was the scene on township line where a tree knocked down power lines and they had to shutdown the road and it remains shutdown at this moment where they work to try to clear this tree and these power lines. so it is probably going to be like that for awhile this is just indicative of one of the scenes we have seen. the lightning, it was so intense it turned night into daylight it was that bright. and it was like flash bulbs on a camera, but much bigger. it was intense height anything and relentless. it would not end. quite the storm that passed enthusiastic here. back to you. >> dann cuellar reporting, thank you. a cumberland county daycare closed tomorrow because a tree fel fell onto it tonight. and in vineland, a tree punched a hole in the roof.

francis, talked to reporters this morning in harrisburg. wolf said the cancer was discovered a couple of months ago during a routine physical and confirmed a couple of weeks ago with additional testing. the good news here is that the prostate cancer is in a very early stage. >> how do you feel? >> i feel great. >> are you scared? >> really, detected very early and so the procedure is going to be a truly minor one. >> wolf said that he will not need chemotherapy but will be getting treatment over the coming weeks. he said it will not interfere with him doing his job as governor. his wife, francis, said this will be beaten. wolf said his case shows the importance of regular check-ups and early detection. philadelphia police busted up a major car theft ring taking

suspects in custody. chad pradelli has been following the case and has the exclusive report. >> investigators say the trio stole nearly two dozen vehicles, mainly contractor trucks. major crimes say trenton and smith would target ford trucks and advance similar to these. >> triggering the work advance for the items inside for tools and things of that nature. >> while the suspects could steal they couldn't drive. two weeks ago they allegedly crashed a stolen vehicle into two occupied cars and two beat cars captured them and smith crashed another stolen vehicle but got away and left his cell phone behind, butting defectives on his scent. and yesterday he was caught in a stolen ford taurus. >> most of the time it was late overnight hours. it actually ran a game -- gammot

of locations. and they say one night they stole four vehicles and after taking tools they dumped them. and search warrants at the suspect's home in kensington. inside the detectives found tools and other items allegedly stolen from the victims. >> this is an ongoing investigation. at some time we will probably reach out to the public to try to get everybody's merchandise and things we coughed back to them. >> the investigators say most of the vehicles were recovered but several remain missing. chad pradelli for channel 6 "action news." the office of pennsylvania attorney general will now investigate the incident last month involving union chief john dougherty and a non-union contractor. this surveillance video shows dougherty walking towards joshua keesee who claims that dougherty

blood on the body. the room was a crime scene and investigation turned over to homicide. >> she didn't shoot herself period, it wasn't suicide. >> and conflicting accounts of what transpired prior to the event. she said her daughter's relationship was volatile incheweding past issues with him allegedly putting his hands on her. and there were allegations that erica was abusing prescriptions and they found low levels of antianxiety meds in her system. and they ruled it was a suicide. the philadelphia police advisory commission executive director sent this letter to the former police commissioner charles ramsay asking to reopen the case. >> it is our job to try to follow-up on those details and try to shed some light on what was done properly, what was not done. >> including a history of alleged domestic violence as

evidence of an emergency room report. and a month earlier she had bruising on her legs told nurses she was abused by her boyfriend but afraid to call the police because her boyfriend was a police officer. after the police were called she said it was an accident and did not want to press charges. >> do you believe the case was handled differently because a police officer was involved. >> it is an interesting question and we don't have answers yet. >> according most baffling, why a gun test was not performed on the officer. >> a medical examiner. it is consistent with a suicide, and also that maybe someone else pulled the trigger. >> it was what what not mentioned. >> this was no mention of blood splatter upon the right hand. >> and it would have been on the

hand of anyone shooting that gun at close range. >> i would probably reopen it and call it undetermined. >> what does that say about the case? the officer declined a request for interview and we asked the philadelphia police. >> i think we went above and beyond what is normally done because it is a police officer. >> telling "action news" that the case has been investigated by the department four separate times and all four times it was ruled a suicide. and the report of domestic violence -- >> it is a death investigation. the domestic violence happened previously would be relevant if it was a homicide. >> and they failed to test the officer for gun residue. >> if you do that test and it comes back negative which it probably could have, you give that person a defense. >> they told "action news" if new information comes to light they can amend the death certificate and they launched

later tonight and that will bring slightly cooler air. the rain totals showing you what was going on. really getting hit with buckets of rain. philadelphia almost two inches of rain and most of that in the past hour. we had training of storms right over the heart of center city. allentown close to 3 inches, reading, wilmington all more than an inch of rain. millville about a half inch of rain. trenton more than an inch. that has caused localized flooding, flash flooding and also moderate flooding, the brandy wine croak, east branch should be cresting 4:00 in the morning two feet above flood stage. and the kristina river is crusting at 1:00 in the morning a little less than two feet above flood stage, moderate flooding. temperatures, it doesn't feel like february.
