night, and the big story on "action news" tonight is a new jersey state police department holding its breath, that after a trooper was out of his car and hit by another vehicle on i-295. this was the scene from chopper 6 in west deptford tonight. "action news" reporter dann cuellar live at cooper medical center where the trooper is it being treated. what do we know about the trooper's condition and how this happened? >> the state trooper continues to be treated here. a few moments ago one from the new jersey state police came out to tell us that the trooper suffered serious injuries although does not know his condition at this moment. >> chapterer 6 hd over the scene at 295 southbound between exit 24a and route 130 in west deptford. initial reports indicate that at about 8:00 the state trooper was conducting a traffic stop. moments later the trooper was struck by a vehicle that was passing by.

the vehicle that was stopped caught fire during the subsequent impact and spun around facing northbound on the southbound lanes. the trooper so seriously injured a medical helicopter was dispatched to transport him to the medical center in camden. southbound lanes on 295 remain shutdown between exit 24a and route 130. in addition, the left lane on 295 northbound is shutdown due to emergency vehicles that are assisting in the accident. again, the trooper's condition has not within released, but i can tell you a large number of state troopers are checking on their colleague, treated in the trauma unit for very serious injuries. from chapterer 6 hd you see the southbound lanes on 295 between exit 24a and route 30 are shutdown. the long line of traffic is backed up there as the
