morning. the new agreement avoids the first strike in 30 years. your time, 7:05. new this morning, a woman is in custody as police investigate whether she was driving drunk before a crashed that happened in north philadelphia. two cars collided ending up on the sidewalk at 11th and cecil b. moore. firefighters freed two injured men from one of the mangled cars you see here. they are in the hospital and expected to survive. the woman suspected of drunk driving was not injured. from our delaware newsroom, $100,000 worth of drugs are off the street as police made a bust in elsmere. police showed "action news" the haul of drugs and guns confiscated. this included three handguns, shotgun and steroids and 25 pounds of marijuana. police have arrested 51-year-old robert john n connection

with the bust. experts say there's been a sharp increase in the number of overdose deaths in the suburbs from heroin. jeff chirico talked to two local families touched by the heroin epidemic. we are losing a generation here. teresa bidwell. this is a life long fight. >> reporter: and trisha are on the front line of a war they didn't want to fight against a drug that's killing thousands of americans every year. i caught him doing it in the bathroom. i couldn't believe it could happen to me. >> reporter: bidwell said her son and daughter have been in and out of rehab for years, their addictions started with prescription drugs and escalated to the cheaper heroin. it's the devil inside them. that's how i look at it. she was responsible, working she saved her money.

>> reporter: trish's straight laced daughter got caught up in drugs and overdosed months after leaving rehab. she was 19. the death rate is higher than it's ever been. >> reporter: more than 100 people died of heroin in delaware county last year. pennsylvania leads the nation in overdose deaths among young men. jeff goldberg said he's seen an increase in parents testing their children's hair and finger nails for drug use, a service he wishes he didn't have to offer. it's a starting point to say where do we take it and begin the journey to recovery. on my free time i was finding ways to get high. >> reporter: trish reads from her daughter's journal to schools across the region hoping to stop the epidemic before it claims another life. i thought we would get the kids before they started. >> reporter: i want people to know it can happen to anybody.

>> reporter: the heroin task force in delaware county has spoken to 15,000 students across the region about the dangers of prescription drugs, objection -- oxycontin or percocet can hook someone in 72 hours. if you have a loved one suffering from heroin addiction call the national health line 800-662-health jot it down. it is open 24/7, 365 days a year. medications such as as methedone are used. behavioral therapy can be used and there's support groups like narcotics anonymous. the federal government has announced $94 million in funding to help fight heroin and

prescription opioid abuse. the money will be distributed among 207 health centers nationwide. that includes 1 million for philadelphia, pottstown and reading he and another million spread among trenton, camden and egg harbor township. second mile charity will stop operations yesterday. the judge gave the charity founded by jerry sandusky, permission to dissolve. he found the charity to work with decision -- disadvantaged children. he met several of his abuse victims through the group. the $70,000 in assets will be turned over to the attorney general office which regulates charities. lawyers for bill cosby are asking for a second deposition planned for next month to be
