chester police captain is shot, a suspect is dead and a community is enraged, how things went from bad to worse last night. a firefighter had to be rescued after falling through a floor of a burning home. police say a teenage girl is dead after being getting shot by an apparent stray bullet. the teen was standing on the sidewalk at 11:45 p.m. when

gunfire broke out among several men a block away. a bullet struck the 18-year-old in the chest. she was taken to pen prbs hospital where surgeons were -- penn presbyterian hospital where surgeons were unable to save her life. looking at rittenhouse square a man was stabbed during a st. patrick's day celebration. a man who seemed to be deranged and asked him if he feels a flyers fan. he pulled out a knife and the hit him in the stomach, he ran from the scene. police began cpr and took the wounded man to hanheman university hospital where he

died. the suspect was wearing a new jersey devils cap. police are looking at surveillance video to try to identify the killer. meteorologist chris sowers has a check of the exclusive accuwether seven-day forecast and 60 yesterday, what about today? >> reporter: close to 60. the only difference you'll need an umbrella later on. it's quiet around the philadelphia area, but mild. temperatures this time yesterday was down into the 30s, some areas below freezing, this morning we're showing 40s and 50s. you can thank the cloud cover for that, it's acting as an atmospheric blanket. 44 in allentown. reading, 46. upper 40s, south and east, 48 millville and wilmington. a slow-moving storm system which brought rain to the missouri valley lifted to the north, the clouds increased

yesterday. the shower activity is getting closer to the tri state. you can see showers in pittsburgh and baltimore and washington, d.c. eventually this will pull through. we'll get into the wet weather as the day progresses. double scan live we set it in motion for you, the heaviest stuff is well to the west. we're not talking about heavy rains this afternoon, but one or two showers are possible. accuweather says cloudy skies, showers by afternoon. 1:00 p.m., 61. by 3:00 p.m., 59. and then by 5:00 p.m., 57. shooting for a high of 62 which is once again some 11 or 12 degrees above the seasonal averages. as i mentioned it is a slow moving storm system, not only are we talking about showers today, but again tonight, tomorrow, and maybe tuesday morning. i'll have the details in the seven-day forecast in just a bit. a chester, pennsylvania

police captain is hospitalized after being shot during a standoff. the exchange of gunfire left a person dead and one injured and people in the area upset with police. "action news" has video of what police say is the captain coming under fire. it's hard to hear the suspect, but seconds later you hear the shots. [yelling] some residents weo police right in the street to protest what happened. that's when the story took another dramatic turn, the exchange of gunfire played out at west third and park are street. jeff chirico was there for the investigation and the fallout.

in this video obtained exclusively by "action news" you can hear police yell for the occupants of the car to get out, as the officer in the white shirt approaches the car door, a shot is fired through the window. you can hear the exchange of gunfire as the witness ducks for safety. it happened at parker and union streets. in the end, a suspect was dead, another injured and a third arrest. captain alan davis was shot twice in the arm and torso. the car was stopped because it was believed to be stolen. persons in the vehicle were uncooperative with police, there was an exchange of gunfire. it is our understanding that someone in the car started shooting the police. police returned fire. neighbors gathered and bowed their heads in prayer as the investigators processed the crime scene behind. the crowd became restless and a

they did manage to get out unharmed. the fire killed two of their three dogs. a firefighter was put in the hospital for an injured leg. a public viewing begins fore new jersey straight trooper, sean cullen. the 31-year-old father engaged to be married died when he was struck by a car on 195. the funeral mass is at noon tomorrow. trooper cullen lived in cinnaminson along with his pregnant fiance and their 9-month-old child. he came from ireland when he was 3 years old. the belmawr police barracks was his home away from home. he was funny, everybody loved him. he was the guy that came into the room, it didn't matter what

scattered showers developing during the afternoon we're forecasting a high of 62. nydia? thank you. remember, you can get the seven-day forecast and check storm tracker 6 live radar at any time at 6abc.com/weather. a chester police captain remains in stable condition following a confrontation with three suspects yesterday afternoon. the incident started when police say captain alan davis tried to pull a car over after it was stolen. in video obtained by "action news" you can hear police including captain davis repeatedly order the occupants of the car. this happened at west third and parker street. as the captain opens the door, a shot was fired out of the window. other officers shot back killing one suspect and injuring another and argue a third. chester's police chief spoke with us after the incident. occupants within the vehicle were uncooperative with police, then there was an

exchange of gunfire. it was understanding that someone is in the car began shooting at police and police returned fire. neighbors held a vigil as investigators combed the crime scene. a scuffle broke out, officers use pepper spray to disperse the crowd. who is to blame for the violence of the donald trump rallies. democrats say trump is the guilty party. sounds like you have a couple of protesters back there, the hell with them. >> reporter: donald trump campaigned in kansas saturday night dogged by hecklers determined to keep them from speaking. we're going to take our country back from these people.

criminal charges. trish hartman has the story. >> reporter: it was a matter of minutes from the time the pilot left the restroom in the secure section of terminal b when he forget his bag. it was too late. the bag with the gun inside was gone. police say the republic airways pilot was authorized to carry the gun. the gun turned up later in a janitor supply closet next to the restroom. 16 flights were delayed for an hour while planes were searched. the decision was made based on the safety of a flying public. >> reporter: this law enforcement officer and traveler was relieved to learn that the gun was inside a locked faa

contrainer. i'm sure they have standards in the program that were met, maybe they need to review the program. >> reporter: investigators say nobody was in danger during the search. passengers we spoke with were surprised to hear that a pilot would leave a bag unattended. you would think that somebody who is a pilot that's in the airport that flies all the time would have a higher awareness though make sure those kind of things don't happen. there there should be recd recommend -- reprimanding or reinforcement of the policy. >> reporter: rereached out to the airlines -- we reached out to the airlines regarding the status of the pilot. we have not heard back. trish hartman channel 6 "action news." another reminder this morning that new jersey transit rail workers are got going on strike. they struck a tentative deal avert ago walkout this morning. it was done with interest of
