him so that is the big news today, brian. >> alicia, thank you. five years ago today a teenaged boy was gunned down on the street in norristown and today prosecutors say they have caught the man who did it. they say witnesses and cell phone records led them to 23-year-old omar mass sen berg. they say he killed ray dawkins in norristown on this date back in 2011. dawkins was 17 at the time. mass sen burg was denied bail and is in jail this afternoon. three franciscan fryers turned themselves in today in western pennsylvania to face charges of child endangerment and conspiracy. anthony chris tele robert damage verse is a and giles chanel lee are accused of letting a fryer who is a known sexual predator continue to hold jobs around children. investigators say friar steven baker molested more than 100 kids while in those jobs at bush shop mccoart high school in johnstown. baker killed himself in 2013 and that prompted more victims to come forward.

former congressman joe sestak and braddock mayor john fedder man. the three candidates are running for the right to challenge incumbent republican pat toomey in the fall. teachers in nazareth, pennsylvania, decided not to go on strike today after all. the union will announced plans for a walkout today after the district rejected its latest offer on wednesday. but instead, both sides say they'll keep talking while classes continue. the school board plans to vote on a mediator's proposal tonight. the the union is expected to vote on a contract proposal next week. nazareth's 341 teachers has been working without a contract since august. >> starwood hotels says it is backing out of a deal to sell itself to marriott after a different group of investors made a better offer. starwood made the announcement this morning. a chinese insurance company, chinese investment bank and a u.s. equity firm o combined to offer $78 per share for

starwood. marriott was only offering 65. starwood says marriott can still up its offer between now and march 28th and marriott indicated today that it will make another bid. we got a recall to tell you about today involving canned tuna. bumble bee and try union seafoods are recalling thousands of cans of chunk light tuna. bumble bee says about 32,000 cases of that product may have been contaminated during a factory sterilization process. there are no reports right now of anyone getting sick because of it but bumble bee says eating the tuna could be life-threatening. try union sea foods says about 3,000 cases of its chicken of the sea brand tuna may be under cooked. we've got a full list of all the affected products at 6abc.com so you'll want to check that out today. >> it is friday and we are looking to the weekend and the weather there may come with it. >> all right. we made it. the weekend is upon us. meteorologist adam joseph standing by with what the weekend has in store. pretty nice shot. >> beautiful right now and

we'll start beautiful going foo saturday morning and then the second half is just kind of a mess with cold rain and wet snow. as we look at sky6 live at the commodore barry bridge you can see it bouncing quite a bit, a very strong wind as a cold front is coming in to bring that change with winds switching to the north. right now it is still very mild no matter where you are. those winds have been really howling out of that west-northwesterly direction. 56 in allentown right now, 62 philadelphia, 63 in millville, 63 in dover. even at the shore temperatures in the upper 50's to near 60 and there you can see that wind clocking in near 37 miles an hour. these are gusts in the last hour. 36 in wilmington, 31 in desks even to the north and west we're looking at anywhere between about 25 to a 30 miles an hour wind gust and as of right now, those winds are relatively warm. there's a front to the north just from buffalo and binghamton and there's a couple of sprinkles up towards the lehigh valley and poconos with this fron front.

not a lot of moisture. temperatures fall back into the upper 20's allentown reading lancaster 32 degrees by tomorrow morning, wilmington 36, millville 33 so it's brisk and much colder with the sky clearing out. future tracker as we start your saturday morning 9:00 a.m. it is brilliant sunshine here for tomorrow morning. clouds will start to increase into the afternoon and by late afternoon, evening, 5 o'clock, we start to see a few light showers developing in southern parts of new jersey, southern parts of delaware. 9 o'clock tomorrow night mixing with a little wet snow he in those far southern areas. still waiting for precipitation for the bulk of our viewing area tomorrow night. and it kind of just sits there and waits and waits and it finally pushes to the north as that nor'easter develops sunday morning at 10:00 a.m., it is a heavy cold rain in southern new jersey, delaware mixing and changing to wet snow philadelphia to the north and west. 3:30 tomorrow afternoon still wet snow north and west of

philadelphia and rain to the south and east so it's all about location of who sees the wet snow, who sees the rain and even 8 o'clock tomorrow night, still snowing north and west with rain to the south and east before it even changes to a little wet snow in southern new jersey and delaware. that's what we're expecting a coating to an inch those far southern zones. for wilmington and across camden as well as gloucester county burlington county all points to the north and west there's a general one to 3 inches of that wet snow here on sunday. and the bulk of the snow now falling during the day means that it will mainly accumulate on those grassy surfaces with temperatures remaining above freezing even in the lehigh valley so very minimal travel impact, so that's some good news but it's still going to snow for some of us here on sunday. as we look at the four day at 4:00 forecast we start dry tomorrow morning giving way to clouds in the afternoon at 48. only 30's on sunday. that wet snow north and west. rain to the south and east and then it will quickly change to the wet snow where it rains

mcdowell avenue. they found someone shot there and laying in the street. that victim died a short time later. police have not yet told us that person's name and they say they have not arrested anyone. police in port richmond shot a dog while they were serving a warrant early this morning. they say the man they were trying to arrest told them he had to let his dogs out but when it took longer than it should they went inside and found the back door opened. they say the man ran off in his boxer shorts but they say one of his pitbulls charged at the officers so they shot it. the animal did survive. the suspect was wanted for failing to appear in court on drug charges. >> dozens of philadelphia police officers are moving up in the ranks as they were promoted today in honor of their hard work and dedication. a ceremony to officially hand out their new titles was held today at temple university. police commissioner richard ross and mayor jim kenney were both there to offer their congratulations to the more than 120 men and women who

have climbed the ranks. among them, lieutenant christopher bullocks whose wife jennifer is our digital sales director right here at 6abc. so congrats to all of them. and there were cheers and plenty of hugs to go around today at this match day at thomas jefferson university. the fourth year medical school students learned where they will carry out their residency training. the hospital that they were matched with is where they will spend the next three to six years finishing outer their medical degree. >> leaders in atlantic city cut the ribbon on three new projects today as they ramp up for the summer season. mayor don guardian and other city officials officially opened the altman playground on pacific avenue and south new hampshire avenue. they showed off the newly paved maryland avenue which includes bike lanes and they debuted a new baseball field at the chelsea heights playground. a reminder summer will eventually arrive.

and some classrooms at murrell dobbins high school. >> nasty. >> my mom say they bloodsuckers and they is hitchhikers so i'm about to turn right back around go home. >> reporter: monday the school district sent a letter to parents informing them bed bugs are at the school. according to the district that afternoon exterminators steamed and vacuumed the affected areas. the building is said to be treated again next week when the students are out for spring break. a district spokesperson says this is not an infestation and a common problem for schools in any city. >> bed bugs actually do not like being in school. it's a place that is not welcoming place for them because it's cold and they he can not do what they want to do, which is actually reproduce. >> reporter: parents are upset students will be considered truant if they miss class and they feel their kids should have an option to stay home until all the critters are gone. >> they need to close the

school because i don't see how they can let the kids go to school like that really. like come on, this is stuff from coming out the schools into our homes and then what if we keep them out of school we get in trouble. >> the bed bugs come from the outside into the school and people may find it in a classroom, may find it in a cafeteria, may find it anywhere but that just shows that there's a bed bug infestation in somebody's house. >> reporter: and the school district also tells us that they are working with the health department and this week they also sent home with children a list of tips and guidelines to deal with this situation. reporting in spring garden, annie mccormick, channel6 "action news." >> a delaware teacher is facing child sex charges after investigators say they caught him in an online sting joshua rutherford met an undercover officer who pretended to be a teen girl in an online chat room. he's accused of asking for nude images. rutherford who teachers at smyrna high school was arrested after agreeing to meet the girl at a park in

dover he's being held on $50,000 bail and is on unpaid leave from the school. >> philadelphia police are still looking for an suv which is connected to a homicide in frankford. investigators say a man was stabbed several times on oxford avenue last night but managed to run down the block to foulkrod street. that's where it's believed he was hit by a white suv. first responders rushed the man to the hospital where he died a short time later. police are still trying to find the driver and the person who stabbed him. the wilmington fire chief believes someone shot one of its trucks leaving it way flat tire. here's a picture of where he believes the bullet went into the rubber. the chief says the truck was responding to a gas leak yesterday which happened to be near the homicide scene on canal street where the shooting happened. police are still investigating that situation. >> a road in cherry hill is back opened this afternoon after being closed most of the morning because of a dump truck crash. chopper6 hd was over the scene this morning along the 600

block of chapel avenue. the dump truck struck the utility pole around 8:30 a.m. well, the impact forced the pole to fall onto the truck. several electrical wires were down onto the street which caused a few customers to lose power. the outages were expected to be repaired by this afternoon. "action news" has exclusive surveillance video showing a three-car crash at the delaware toll plaza. police say a driver who was drunk did not come to a stop as he pulled up to the tollbooth wednesday night. he ended up hitting a car which caused a chain reaction with a third vehicle. four people were taken to the hospital with injuries and two tollbooths were damaged. >> incredible video. appears it didn't slow down at all. talking about the weekend accuweather forecast. one of those 50-50 weekends out there. >> yeah, we start sunny, we start beautiful, a little on the chilly side and we end kind of wet and cold and snowy for some of us as well so not a springlike weekend ahead at

all. as we take a look right now at center city, we have some clouds moving in with a cold front approaching from the north and west but it's still very mild at 62 degrees. that strong wind out of the west 20 gusting at times up to 40 miles an hour this afternoon. the pressure holding steady but that will be dropping through the upcoming weekend. in fact here's some of those peak wind gusts today. 44 miles an hour in philadelphia. reading 43. trenton 36. and above that 40 miles an hour zone for wilmington as well as millville. as we look at storm tracker6 live double scan you can see a lot of moisture to the south. again, this is a very moisture-rich storm. couple pieces of energy will come together, develop that nor'easter right off the carolinas and into virginia then deepen as it passes by to our south and east so it is a perfect path this time of year in order to give some of our area that snowfall. it's hard to do. many time in the month of march but as history has proved itself the last three years in a row, we've had snow he this time of year, so why

first of two fully emerged. look at that little guy there. people can not peel their eyes away from this. the d.c. eagle cam has been locked on the parents nicknamed mr. president and first lady. they have been taking turns sitting on the eggs. they are the first by the way to nest in the national arboretum's tulip popular tree in almost 70 years. the bald eagle sibling is expected to follow suit this weekend so if you have not been watching, you have been warned. get on board. finally it is the medical fish break through. in allentown it has social media smiling right along with mr. hot wing here. yes, that is the name of this standard gold fish who is sporting what might very well be the first set of fish braces. the picture has gone viral since lehigh valley veterinary dermatology posted it on its facebook page. here the thing. mr. hot wing is harold your average gold fish. you see his doctor brian

palmero tells me mr. hot wing was born without a lower jawbone and his mouth couldn't stay opened so that made it hard for him to eat and breathe so the doctor did a lot of research and came up with those custom braces there crafted from a plastic credit card. how is that for a solution? now, they sedated the little guy. when he woke up from surgery, it is a whole new world for mr. hot wing. in case you are wondering the whole thing cost about 150 bucks. the gold fish itself free at the fair . >> [laughter] >> doing well. >> there are no limits to what can be done. >> it's unbelievable. >> at first i thought the fish had teeth and i was going to -- you know, fish with teeth are slightly scary but now we know this was a jaw issue. >> they really love their fish. >> they do love their fish. incredible technology. >> we'll get an update on this fish.

>> thanks very much. let's get a check on the roads. >> autumn marisa standing by with the update. >> we have a serious accident on 202. this just happened. this police car just arrived. you can see the long line of vehicles there. it's involving this white car, this truck and this white car here. you can see the white car collided with the truck is that now facing the other direction. so we're going to keep an eye on things but there was already a long line of vehicles just because of the afternoon traffic. you can expect big delays now. this is 202 northbound just as you approach the schuylkill expressway. moving along and showing you the big picture another really big slow down are the southbound lanes on the blue route from villanova through swarthmore really taking you about 50 minutes to go from the schuylkill expressway down to 95. so, another big slowdown there as well. few incidents to tell you about. hatfield township cowpath road an incident out there. mantua township we have an overturned vehicle on route 55 and aston township 452 and hall road another one to report. all area bridges looking nice

>> it's not fair especially the blooming trees those poor things. as we take a look at double scan live radar around the area, a couple sprinkles in the poconos. that is a cold front that will drop through here tonight and that will also drop the temperatures through the upcoming weekend. right now the poconos it's 49 degrees so we're starting to see that chill pushing in from the north. 56 allentown, 60 in reading but the rest of us are in the lower 60's for philadelphia, millville, dover feeling pretty nice and even the shore not bad with that westerly wind not much of a sea breeze today. there's the front to the north. very little in the way of precipitation. you see the southern part of it along i80 it is rain showers but then you work towards binghamton and buffalo it's cold enough there where it's changing over to some light snow showers but for us we could see an early shower in a couple locations but it will quickly turn clear here tonight once that front zipping tsinks to thesouth. we look to the south because on satellite and radar you're starting to see a lot of moisture gathering here

pulling out of the gulf of mexico and also some lingering moisture working out of the plains and the rockies and these two areas will merge and create that nor'easter just to our south late saturday into sunday morning. future tracker 9 o'clock tomorrow morning it's a chilly start to your saturday with temperatures in the 30's with sunshine. clouds increase in the afternoon at 5 o'clock we're only in the mid 40's. a few light rain showers developing by the end of the day in southern areas. and the system doesn't really get going here until sunday morning into the lunchtime hour when we start see that moisture lift from the south to the north, so this is noon on sunday, wet snow philadelphia to the north and west and it is a cold rain in the 40's southern new jersey and delaware and even as we get into the afternoon hours of sunday, it is still that wet snow philadelphia and our pennsylvania counties. rain in delaware, rain in most of southern new jersey but where it's snow showers i snowie

freezing and it is march. sunday afternoon the pavement surfaces will stay mainly wet and you can get whatever errands you need done or plans on sunday. it's not one of those crippling storms. and then on sunday at 10 o'clock that's when temperatures start to drop a little bit and the snow starts to wrap in and that rain in southern areas sunday night as it tapers off will flip over to some snowfall. what to expect here? basically wilmington and then as you cut across central parts of new jersey all points to the north and west one to 3 inches of wet snow. southern about a coating to an inch that's at the very end on sunday night but some of the key factors is that very wet snow, almost glue-like or paste-like for the trees, the power lines and the grass. it mainly melts on the roads most of the time. elevation is going to play a big key role in pennsylvania where we could see maybe a four or 5-inches in those higher terrains of chester county, montgomery county, lehigh valley and that

rain/snow line pretty tricky and we'll have to see exactly where that sets up. the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast sun to clouds saturday at 48 degrees. that wet snow and rain south and east at 38 for the first day of spring which we say hello to it at 12:30 in the morning as we look to the optimistic side of this. the daylight increases along with the temperatures as we move forward in that seven-day. brisk and chilly monday of 46. partly sunny, 49 on tuesday. and then turning warmer and springlike as we go back to the 70's on thursday and friday and where you see some of this wet snow accumulating it will pretty much melt within the next couple days after on monday and tuesday, guys. it will not stick around for very long. >> all right, adam thank you. >> many uh-huh. >> we'll be right back.

>> meteorologist melissa magee has been tracking the chance of snow all day for us. she's live at the big board with the latest. hi, melissa. >> hi monica, hi rick. essential hard to believe that we are tracking snow especially with temperatures so mild ahead of this system. in order to produce snowfall we have to talk about cold air. here's satellite6 along with action radar. there's a frontal boundary, a cold front we're tracking and we did have some sunshine earlier today, sun giving way to increasing clouds and there could be a spotty shower from time to time as we go throughout the rest of tonight but in the wake of this frontal boundary dipping down to our south and east, numbers are falling off fairly quickly. to our north it's 37 in syracuse. 35 in bangor maine and 26 degrees in caribou but to the south of that still 63 in philadelphia and 61 degrees in baltimore. so, this front will shift on off to our south and east as we go throughout the rest of tonight and into our weekend so that will establish relatively colder air across the region. now we'll talk about the moisture. storm tracker6 live double scan radar 3-d showing you we've got an unorgan
