of several bald eagles. trish hartman live at the tri-state bird rescue in wilmington where the surviving birds are being treated. they're looking for any clue as to what exactly happened here. >> reporter: that's right, brian. well, the birds that are being treater here at the tri-state bird rescue are in stable condition. we weren't allowed to see the eagles, they're trying to minimize human interaction while they recover. state and federal officials are trying to get to the bottom of what killed five bald eagles found over the weekend. this is one of the bald eagles found over the weekend being tube fed at tri-state bird rescue in newark it's a sub adult only two to four years old and two young to have the white feathered head. it was found among a group of sick eagles in sussex county delaware. state fish and wildlife officials say a resident reported finding one of the dead eagles on saturday in dads borrow about two hours south of wilmington not far away and officials say a group of eight eagles including this one was spotted acting

erratically. >> some of them weren't able to fly. they seemed to be stumbling and disoriented. >> reporter: five of the eagles were captured in a field like this one. three died on the way to the rescue. on sunday two more eagles were found in dags borrow, one was dead, the other taken to the rescue for treatment. >> this would be unusual. we get about 50 bald eagles a year here for treatment but we don't normally see cases like this. >> reporter: tests have been performed on the birds and the results should be back in a few days. until then officials say they'll be trying to figure out what's causing the illness. >> we want to make sure that we can figure out what it is, narrow it down get it cleaned up and taken care of so we don't have additional eagles that are affected. >> reporter: now, if you do see any dead or sick bald eagles, officials say don't try to touch or capture them yourself. instead, contact state fish and wildlife officials. if you do have any information about the dead eagles, call the fish and wildlife natural

resource's 24 hour hotline, eight-hundred-292-3030. trish hartman channel6 "action news." sharrie and brian. >> trish thanks very much. after a mostly dreary weekend the sunshine is back as you just saw and soon warm temperatures will be, too. >> yeah, great way to start the week. meteorologist adam joseph outside with the first check of the accuweather forecast. >> reporter: decent amount of sunshine on this monday. a few clouds bubbling up this afternoon but they're not going last long. it's been a cool stretch and it all started on saturday the last day of winter at 47 degrees. spring was chilly on sunday, 43, today we moved up 7 degrees to 50 but it's still a little bit low there normal tl of 54. we had snow falling at 4:00 a.m. in eastern and southern new jersey, southern parts of delaware but that was off the coast by about 6 o'clock this morning, the sunshine rushed in and now you can see some of those fair weather cumulus clouds bubbling up this afternoon moving in from the north and west but those will also fall apart as we get

one-on-one with president obama during this historic trip. they tackled several topics including why the president chose now to go to cuba. the president said it was always his intention to get the ball rolling knowing that change can coastal low not happen overnight. he also said internet access will be a huge factor in moving that country forward. >> when you look out across havana, you see the young people all gather on street corners to borrow the wifi. >> reporter: that's why some of these changes can be so significant. one of the things we'll be announcing is that google has a deal to start setting up more why five accents broad band access on the island. >> and you can see more of david's interview with the president coming up on world news tonight right after "action news" at 6:00. >> here at home hundreds of pennsylvania state employees were sent home this morning as the cleanup continues from friday's water main break in center city. flooding affected three floors

in the historic building on eighth and market streets. authorities say on friday, a pipe burst sending water gushing through the three floors that are currently being leased by public welfare, state police and other state government agencies. 280 state workers all showed up for work this morning only to learn their officerss were shut down for at least today while the cleanup continues. >> the building's safe. this building is just drying out. we have hygienists other experts in there to make sure that it stays say. really where we are at the moment is they're going to replace the carpet either, you know, today or very shortly, so we expect the problem will be completely finished within a matter of a day or so. >> in the meantime state officials are setting up alternative work options and locations until those workers can get back in that building. sharrie. >> yeah, lope full its sooner than later. madness of march is thrilling basketball fans across the can untree and now

some of that action shifts to philadelphia. action cam was in south philadelphia this morning as workers unveiled the banner for the ncaa tournament at the wells fargo center. philly is hosting sweet 16 games friday night between notre dame and wisconsin as well as north carolina and indiana. the winners will move on to play on sunday. meantime the villanova wildcats are back home today after their dominating performance in the first two rounds. their sweet 16 journey will take them to louisville kentucky where they will face miami. tipoff is set for thursday night at 7:10 and if they win, they would play the winner of the kansas-maryland game for a trip to the final four. we'll have more on villanova coming up in sports on "action news" starting at 5 o'clock. the saint joe's hawks will be back on hawk hill in about an hour. their tournament run ended with a heartbreaking lose late last night to the number one seeded oregon ducks. the school is asking fans to gather at hagan arena to

campaign. >> the director of a tennis tournament apologized for saying female players ride on the coat tails of men. the controversial comments came from raymond moore the director of the bnp open in california. yesterday he said if he were a woman in tennis, he would drop to his knees every night and thank god for the male players who have carried the sport. he quickly faced backlash from top athletes including serena williams. >> we as women have come a long way and we shouldn't have to drop to our knees. >> moore has since issued a statement saying his comments were in extremely poor taste. here at the big board now and a brand new season of dancing with the stars kicks off tonight right here on 6abc. and if you believe it, it's season 22 but there's no sign that the show is slowing down one little bit. the stage is set for tonight's

north, millville 50 degrees, 50 at the atlantic city airport. the numbers are running around 5 degrees below average. as we look at those winds driving out of the northwesterly direction, speeds of 35 right now in reading clocking in at 38 in lancaster, 36 in wilmington, 35 in millville but these winds will continue to diminish as we go through the overnight hours. that snow from early this morning, it is long gone east of new england and actually in northern new england by this point. saw a good amount of sunshine today and then some of these high fair weather cumulus clouds pulling in from the north and west with that chillier air but they will collapse once the sun sets because they really are driven by that afternoon sunshine. 26 tonight in allentown, 27 in that reading, 29 in wilmington, 20 millville. so, the numbers are cold tonight with a lot of stars but at least that wind relaxes so we're not looking at really low wind chills. future tracker temperatures, though, across the eastern half of the country, the heat will be back on tuesday,

tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 p.m., 54 philadelphia, 61 in cincinnati, 60 chick, near 70 in saint louis with high pressure once again down to the south and that high will continue to crank and really warm those temperatures up by wednesday afternoon on the verge of 70 degrees in philadelphia, 72 in raleigh, saint louis 65 degrees. so, spring will definitely be here as we go through the rest of the week, at least feeling like it if not feeling like late spring but the only thing, if you're an allergy sufferer that is going to spike here tuesday, wednesday, thursday on the medium to high side and your culprits this time of year the juniper, the elm and the maple and it can comes down a little on friday after some rain overnight thursday. as we look at that four day at 4:00 forecast, we'll look at partly sunny skies here tuesday with the temperature of 57 with sunshine and clouds. but then we really boost that temperature up to 70, much warmer on wednesday with just some high clouds in the afternoon. thursday is breezy, it's warm,

>> ♪ >> brand new at 4 o'clock, we now know the name of the woman who went to the hospital after a nasty crash in delaware. this happened around 7 o'clock last night on route 495 in edgemoor. and as you can see, the mess it left on the highway there. police say 33-year-old jodi hauk lost control of her pickup truck and rolled over. she was thrown from the wreckage and she's still being treated right now. two other people in her car were not hurt. police in the tioga section of philadelphia are looking for the men who robbed a pizza shop at gun point. they gave us surveillance video of the crime that happened on march tenth. it shows two men going into the dominos pizza on north broad street around 1:30 in the morning.

one of the men as you can see has a gun. they took money from the cash register and forced an employee to open a safe but they took off before that safe was opened. no one was hurt. police would ask that anyone with information would give them a call. >> the bidding war in the hotel world is officially on. marriott has won back the right to by starwood after making a new offer. marriott had the original deal with starwood but last week a group of chinese investors outbid marriott and starwood took that higher offer. but marriott has increased its own offer now valuing starwood at $13.6 billion. the new deal would make the combined company the largest hotel chain in the world. but the group of chinese investors is expected to make another offer. all right. look at the day's closing numbers on wall street today and we start things off in the green. the dow up 21 and a half points today, nasdaq up 13 an quarter, the s & p 500 also up just about two points on the day. the supreme court has

agreed to hear a patent dispute between apple and samsung. the two companies the top smartphone manufacturers in the world samsung was ordered to pay $399 million for illegally coping patented aspects of the look of apple's iphone. the justices will decide if the court can order samsung to pay apple every penny it made from the phones even though the disputed features are just a small part of the product. >> and still ahead on "action news at 4:00 quenching water fears in philadelphia. >> we have new details about the safety of the city's drinking water and tips about checking your pipes next.

these two patients bring the total number of cases to three. officials say none of the people was infected in the united states. they all got the virus from a mosquito bite while traveling abroad. there is no vaccine for zika which can cause birth defects. the sends for disease control is urging all pregnant women to postpone travel to south america where the virus is most prevalent. >> as the water crisis in flint, michigan, continues to bring up concerns about drinking water across the can untree, philadelphia officials want to suppress that the water here is safe. but there are important steps to make sure that your pipes don't become an issue. "action news" reporter john rawlins live at the belmont reservoir in wynnefield heights to explain what he found out today. hi, john. >> reporter: hi, brian. well, this is important stuff. this is a public health issue no doubt about it given the less that occurred in flint. what council wanted to do, they heard good news, bad news and good news. first up, the water commissioner. >> let me begin by noting that

philadelphia's drinking water is lead free and that there are clear differences between flint and philadelphia. >> reporter: the water commissioner told council the good news, water processed and fed to 3200 miles of philadelphia mains lead free. however, there is some bad news. once the water leaves the city mains it flows through much smaller privately owned pipes to houses called service lines. in buildings built before 1950, those lines can be lead. before the 1980's, there could be lead sodder. >> risk for lead contamination arises when water passes through lead service lines, indoor plumbing or faucets. >> reporter: but then there's good news, unlike flint philadelphia adds a corrosion inhibitor that significantly lowers the contamination risk. >> we add phosphate at our water plant and that will coat the pipe so you prevent the water from coming in contact with the lead pipe or the led sodder. >> reporter: but nothing is perfect the water department and other experts told council if someone has lead pipes they

should do this. run the cold water tap for at least three to five minutes daily after a long period of nonuse. the goal, to flush out any possible contamination. >> simply running the water for a few minutes is usually sufficient to null water from the water main which has generally free of lead. >> reporter: again, the idea is to flush out the water that's been in contact with lead in the pipes if you have lead pipes in your house or lead sodder in your house, the idea is if it's been in that water in that system for overnight, say, that would be a good time to go ahead and flush it. it's estimated there are 50 to 60,000 houses in philadelphia that still have lead service lines. if you want to know more, the water department is putting up more information on its own web site. we'll have a link there including how you can get your water tested if you have a lead service line in the city of philadelphia. live in wynnefield heights, john rawlins, channel6 "action news." back to you all. >> all right, good information, john. thank you. philadelphia police have

charged a second person in connection with a triple shooting in the west kensington section of the city. investigators say angel montanez turned himself in last week. it is comes after police arrested ativa jackson earlier this month. both are charged with two counts of murder. police say the suspects shot and killed two people in january in the 100 block of wishart street. a third person was injured. >> we have new surveillance video today of a car thief who dragged a woman from a moving vehicle in the mayfair section of philadelphia. take a look at the man inside an express fuel store on the 6300 block of frankford avenue. on march third, he noticed a silver honda civic had been left running outside and jumped in. when the 29-year-old victim tried to stop him, she was dragged about 25 feet until she gave up and let go. she was treated for minor injuries but police are still looking for that suspect. meanwhile investigators are also trying to find two men who robbed a little caesar's in southwest philadelphia.

police say an employee was locking the front door of the restaurant on woodland avenue when two men pulled handguns on him last week. the worker was forced back inside to open the safe. the armed robbers made off with cash and have not been seen since. >> meteorologist adam joseph joining us once again and we're talking about the return of sunshine. >> sunshine's coming back, the warm temperatures as well after kind of a cool stretch the last couple of days but as we look live right now, that sunshine fighterring the sky with some clouds this afternoon but that sun was in full force through much of the day today. the temperatures just 49 degrees. that northwesterly wind we felt it sustained right now 18 miles an hour creating wind chill of just 42 degrees and in ocean city from the schreiber's beach cam not many folks taking a stroll but it won't be long before we start hitting the shore because it's just a couple months away. 49 degrees there, wind out of the west-northwest 20 miles an hour, wind chill 41 and lake wallenpaupack 35 degrees there and notice the water has some

ripples which means a lot of that ice has already melted which this time of year typically it's still iced over. winds out of the north-northwest wind chill of just 25 degrees in the poconos. but we'll chat about those temperatures hitting near 70 for a couple of days this week, a little chance for rain and then we'll have the the forecast. >> thank you. >> we're learning more about a weekend car accident that injured nine people in camden county. police say four people remain hospitalized following the saturday wreck unblock wood clementon road. twwood -- blackwood-clementon road. the other victims were treated and released. police are still investigate wag caused that collision. >> philadelphia police have a suspect in sudden custody wanted for an alleged robbery that ended up injuring an officer. investigators say the officer got hurt while chasing down the suspect last flight in the port richmond section of the city.

like this snapshot someone sent in to me on my facebook page of snow covering the patio and the deck kimberly sent this into my facebook page from mays landing new jersey where they picked up close to 2-inches of that wet snow this morning and most of it, again, was in eastern areas and it did not last long. once that sun broke over the horizon and cleared the clouds, that snow melted pretty quickly. double scan live radar, that's the beautiful thing about march snow, we're looking at sunshine around. there was some clouds that have developed from the north and west but they're not holding any moisture whatsoever. 49 degrees, that is the temperature right now in philadelphia. the dewpoint is bone dry at 14. with that northwesterly wind at 18 miles an hour. wind chill just 42. the pressure is still falling a little bit but that will start to turn the corner and rise through much of the week. right now it's 50 in millville, 51 in wilmington and those areas that saw again close to 2-inches of snow, some of the warmer spots right now, 50 in atlantic city, 51 in cape may and a bit cooler
