good afternoon we begin with breaking news. deadly explosions rocked the belgium airport. >> at least 34 people are dead and at least three american missionaries from utah have been seriously injured. the belgium prime minister calling it a black day for the country. the first set of explosions rocked brussels at 8:00 in the morning. >> big bangs, kind of smokey you know. >> the belgian prosecutor says at least one of those was carried out by a suicide bomber. almost an hour later, another powerful blast at the maalbeek subway station. near the western embassy.

>> it was a loud muffled sound and people started running. >> commuters shocked starting running out of the station. you can see the extent of the explosion. >> the world reacting. >> we'll do everything we can to support our friend and ally, belgium, to find those responsible. >> as well as france's president. the whole world is concerned. the attacks striking in the heart of brussels just days after the raid on friday. police arresting the last suicide bomber from paris. salah abdeslam. the terror threat level raised to the highest level in fear of another attack is serious and imminent. >> we are learning more about the types of injuries people have suffered in the attacks.

at least one bomb detonating at the airport contained nail, and according to a doctor dealing with the wounded. deep fractures and cuts caused by flying nails. back to you. >> thank you. >> the attacks have led to a higher security presence here in the united states especially at major transit hubs including philadelphia international airport. >> "action news" reporter katherine scott has more on that. >> reporter: rick and sara we are speaking to travelers here today and many of them say that they are pressing on with their plans but it's unnerving. if you are traveling in and out of philadelphia international airport today expect to see more uniformed patrols, but there is no specific threat here. at philadelphia international airport today passengers were arriving for their flights, this morning's deadly explosions in brussels on their minds.

>> i just want to make it home. that is all i'm trying to do. >> two explosions took place at the departure point at brussels airport. americans said that the blast did not occur in their checkin area, the airport employees and crew are accounted for and safe. some passengers at phl say you can't live in fear and this is tragic but not the norm. >> that is why it's so catastrophic when they do. >> i'm a student and it's hard to be scared for flying. >> police and a spokesperson for phl say travelers could see an increased uniformed presence at the airport today. it always operates at a heightened alert without a specific threat.

travelers should keep an eye out too. >> keep an eye out if something seems off. i'll definitely trust my gut. >> there is no flights going in and out of brussels now but for the american airlines passengers in brussels, once operations are back up and running they will be accommodated on other flights. katherine scott, channel 6 "action news" the agency tells "action news" that amtrak police are working with state and local and federal law enforcement partners to gather and share intelligence, extra officers are deployed and amtrak employees are reminded to look for and report suspicious activity and unattended items. >> the people in brussels are using social media to share what they saw during the confusing and scary moments. alicia vitarelli joins us with

more on that. >> the images and videos through the eyes of eyewitnesss are haunting. this is what it looks like at the brussels airport. he calls the experience violent and terrifying. you can see the baby stroller left behind and this is the incredible damage from the aftermath of the explosions and this is the area that is now just a complete ghost town, elsewhere you can see people huddling together. families are holding on and keeping safe today. this is the compelling video that shows the immediate aftermath of the attack at the airport. people screaming reminders over and over it's okay, it's okay. a sign of solidarity there and people crouching for cover unsure what will happen next. >> we know what happens next was a second attack at a brussels metro station. >> this is just remarkable video, really scary to watch,

eyewitnesss evacuating there, you can hear babies crying and people screaming as they run for cover outside of the train station people living through the lens and capturing the moments of care as the wounded get treated in that part of the city and this is so beautiful. all across the streets of brussels this afternoon an immense show of love and the sidewalks are covered with shauk, with the words pray for brussels, they are being shared on instagram and twitter today. if you are worried about someone living in brussels or traveling there, facebook activated its safety check so survivors can check in and let everyone know they are okay. >> the images are unbelievable. this is just in to "action news," the brussels airport will be closed through tomorrow so at least through wednesday. the brussels airport staying closed as that investigation gets underway there.

primaries and caucuses are being held in arizona, utah and idaho. but this morning the presidential candidates are responding to news of the deadly terror attack in belgium's capital. democrats hillary clinton and bernie sanders as well as john kasich expressed their solidarity. and donald trump and ted cruz promised a strong response to terrorism. >> the first priority of the commander and chief should be keeping america safe. >> meanwhile hillary clinton is looking to extend her delegate lead over bernie sanders, and donald trump's challengers hope they can win enough delegates to take it to a contested convention in july. in cuba in july, president obama says that the terror bombings in belgium is another reason to unite against terrorism.

it gave the president a chance to direct the cuban people directly. president obama again pushed to lift the u.s. trade embargo. i have come here to bury the last remnant of the cold war in the americas. >> after his speech, the president met with cuban dissidents critical of raul castro's government. it will wrap up his visit to havana by taking in a baseball game with the tampa bay rays and the cuban national team. and a hearing pitting the fbi against apple over a locked iphone. both are due in court later today but now federal investigators say they may not need apple's help. they may have found a way around the code from an outside party. the director of a popular tennis tournament has quit after

we have new information about the emergency landing of an american airlines flight after it took off from philadelphia last night. the plane was headed for dublin, ireland, but had to be diverted to boston when a woman suffered a medical episode on board. it suggests that the woman became unruly on the flight but she had a medical condition and will not face charges. federal regulators are trying to ban surgical gloves laced with powder, it made them easy to wear but poses a health risk to patients and doctors including scar tissue on internal organs when used during surgery. the fda imposed the ban yesterday. more and more americans are taking prescription drugs and

good looking day from start to finish. feeling good at this point. 50 degrees in philadelphia. and winds are blustery and winds out of the west at 15 miles per hour. not like the gusty winds we had yesterday. 49 in allentown unthe same thing in lancaster and reading and same in wilmington and close to the same in dover and millville and down in cape may, new jersey. satellite shows you there is cloud cover trying to sweep in from the west encountering dry air in place now and we are still fairly bright and the clouds will begin to mix with the sun and i'll go partly sunny for the afternoon. a bit higher in the lehigh valley, and down the shore we bump the number up a few degrees getting up to 56 after holding closer to 50 yesterday. partly sunny and milder be winds not nearly as bad and philadelphia we go for the high of 57 this afternoon. partly sunny and milder than yesterday. and winds noticeable southwest

at 8 to 16 miles per hour. but not as blustery as yesterday when we had the gusts in the mid-20s at times. the southwesterly flow watch what it does in a moment and the overnight hours. the evening commute. 57 by 5:00. and 54 by 6:00 and dropping down to 50 by 7:00. a decent evening commute. here is what the southwesterly flow does to us. we got down to the freezing mark in most neighborhoods this morning. and we'll only go to 46, that flow of mild air overnight will pump into the region and partly cloudy and cool overnight certainly. but the pump effect coming up from the southwest continues from right tomorrow morning straight into the afternoon with a frontal boundary up above us and the flow from the front we expect to get up to 70 degrees for a high in the region and a good deal of sunshine and the 70 is 15 degrees above average, and

with thursday a cold front to the west nudging its way east, and getting even milder, and we could challenge a record high, and we are talking nice numbers. here is your exclusive accuweather forecast we are going for the high of 57 better than yesterday, not as windy and sunny and nice overall. and tomorrow all the way up to 70 turning warm were partly sunny skies and thursday near record warmth, we are posting a high of 75 and the record is only 76 degrees and clouds increase ahead of the front and it's comfortable. late in the day and at night the possibility of showers spilling into the early part of friday but we expect sun coming back and a decent high of 64 and then on the weekend cooler on saturday and 57 degrees and lots of sun and a good looking day overall. there is the indication on at least one model that we could wind up with showers in the afternoon and one that doesn't

we continue at 12:30 with the latest on our breaking news stories out of brussels belgium. 32 were killed in two emplosions at the airport and one at a subway station. u.s. and across europe are

declaring their solidarity with belgium after the attacks. this is just one of the scenes following the explosion, smoke filled the brussels airport as people laid on the ground and took cover. >> about an hour ago isis claimed responsibility for at tacks and they come after a top suspect in the deadly november 13th attacks in paris was arrested in a police raid in brussels. one of the explosives appears sophisticated. they will examine them and see if they have the same characteristics as those used in paris. the mayor announced that the eiffel tower will be lit in the colors of the belgium flag this morning and president obama offered the assistance of the u.s. to catch the attackers and that the world must stand united against terrorism. >> the thoughts and prayers of
