officers fired. the suspect is in surgery. a woman bystander suffered minor injuries. no police officers were injured. authorities say the suspect is known to capitol police and that this was a criminal act but not an act of terrorism. there is no further threat to the public and the capitol visitor's center will be opened tomorrow. world news tonight with david muir will have the latest on the incident at the capitol. that is ahead at 6:30 right after "action news" on channel6. authorities are saying that the co-pilot taken off the flight from detroit to philadelphia because he was allegedly drunk has been identified as 50-year-old john francis mcguire and he is from chadds ford. "action news" reporter chad pradelli is live at philadelphia international airport tonight. chad, we are learning more about the incident early saturday morning. >> reporter: yeah, jim, we have yet to hear from the pilot himself, john mcguire but what authorities say on

saturday morning, mcguire was set to pilot a plane from detroit metropolitan airport to philadelphia international airport while drunk. as police detained john mcguire off of the american airlines flight he was prepared to fly while allegedly intoxicated, passengers knew something was amiss. initially they were told there was a problem with the pilot's seat. >> i was getting a little nervous and i guess there was a good reason why. >> i saw them actually taking the pilot around the side of the car and handcuffing him. >> reporter: maguire may have taken flight from detroit to philadelphia if not for an alert t.s.a. agent. the agent smelled what he thought was alcohol on maguire. police responded and the 50-year-old allegedly failed two breathalyzer tests. he was taken to a local police station. >> we were all told to get off the plane and then they told us that our flight was canceled. >> reporter: he was reese leads by police in michigan and faces a misdemeanor charge

of operating an aircraft while under the influence. american airlines called it a serious matter and said it is assisting with the investigation. and authorities in michigan say maguire has been released but it's unclear if he's made his way back to our area. i'm live outside of philadelphia international airport, clad pradelli, channel6 "action news. jim. >> thank you, chad. the delaware county native who was killed outside his police station in maryland was laid to rest today. members of the elsmere fire company and the goodwill fire company of new castle staged this tribute as the procession for jacai colson came through i-95 and newport this morning. the police escort from maryland ended at lawn croft cemetery in linwood, delaware county. >> ♪ family, friends and colleagues attended the private ceremony at the cemetery. colson was killed by a fellow

police officer in a case of mistaken identity. on march 13th. it happened during a shootout with a suspect outside of the police station in landover, maryland. police in milltown delaware are investigating the discovery of a camera in the ladies' room of a local restaurant. "action news" reporter john rawlins is live outside moe's southwest grille and john, what's the story there? >> reporter: well, jim, it was an employee here who found the device nine days ago. she then turned it over to police who now must try to figure out who put it inside the women's restroom and why. the discovery was made the evening of march 19th reportedly a female employee here at moe's southwest grille in the 4700 block of kirkwood highway became suspicious after comments made by a male colleague. as she was emptying the trash can in the women's restroom she noticed this tiny video camera. a flat connecting wire led to a battery pack that in this picture is partly obscured. there was also a memory card

device installed. sources who say they reviewed the memory card video were alarmed at what they found. they described disturbing invasion of privacy. they estimated there could be more than a hundred. >> the videographer: yo' clips of women using the restroom. among the most troubling images we were told, that of a little girl believed to be five to 11 years old. the camera and the video were turned over that evening to the delaware state police. a department spokesperson confirmed there is an ongoing active investigation into the matter. by phone, the franchise owner of this moe's southwest grille patel told "action news" that he had "no comment at this time. we don't want to release anything at this time. we are working with the police. "a corporate spokesperson in atlanta also said that the local owner was cooperating with authorities and added the safety of our guests is our top priority. again, it's not known who put the camera inside the restroom and why. nor is it known how long it might have been there, had it been there just days, weeks,

maybe longer, all questions that the police are going to have to answer. the state's major crime unit has been assigned to this particular investigation. live in wilmington, john rawlins, channel6 "action news. >> john, thank you. gun violence the topic of discussion this morning at philadelphia city hall. the city council committee on public safety heard testimony about establishing a comprehensive strategy to reduce gun violence in the city particularly among young people. they also talked about the underlying cause of youth gun violence and shared ideas for possible solutions. west deptford police have charged a man with aggravated assault, that after video of the suspect allegedly beating a juvenile to a pulp went viral last week on the internet. bit more about the man police say was behind the vicious attack. it's this graphic facebook video posted last week that has him charged with aggravated assault and terroristic threats. the 26-year-old who identified as a self trained mixed martial arts fighter was caught on cell phone video profusely beating a 17-year-old boy at a national park home. >> he has confessed to doing it, yes. >> reporter: west deptford police can't detail the motive behind the vial attack but say the pair are acquaintances. >> no family member, it's not that they are always hanging out together. i believe they have a mutual friend is where they were the night it happened. >> reporter: police say they made contact with him last week after the video went viral but his attorney wasn't available until today which is why it took longer to charge him. police assured the 17-year-old victim is safe and no longer in any danger. now he is out on basement he posted a $50,000 cash only

bond earlier this afternoon. reporting live in west deptford, christie ileto, channel6 "action news." jim. >> thank you christie. investigators are still working to determine what caused a fire that forced 10 people from their home in the west oak lane section of philadelphia. the fire started at 11 o'clock last night on the 6300 block of north 21st street. crews say the fire began in the basement and flames quickly spread to the first floor. fortunately everybody got out safely. the red cross is helping the family of 10. drivers in philadelphia will have a nighttime lane closure to contend with over the coming months. penndot is repaving north broad street between spring garden and j.f.k. boulevard plus the streets surrounding city hall. crews will work monday through friday 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the project is expected to finish in late may. and in university city, penndot is resurfacing 33rd street between market and 34th. construction is expected to last through the month of

june. mayor jim kenney toured a preschool in chinatown this morning. he took time to read to students at the chinatown learning center. that is o on the 1000 block of spring street. kenney has been pushing universal prek for all philadelphia students saying it puts all children on an even playing field. coming up on "action news" tonight, concerns over lead in drinking water prompts new jersey lawmakers to propose mandatory testing at a place where children spend much of their time. >> the system that brought us about a half inch of rain this morning is now helping pull down some cool gusty winds. i'll have the lay of the on the winds of change moving in in the accuweather 7-day forecast. >> and we'll go live to the villanova campus where the basketball team is focusing on the final four. those stories, much more when "action news" continues tonight.

>> the pennsylvania primary about four weeks away now but if you want to cast your vote on april 26th, you need to register by the end of today. you can do there online. just find a link at 6abc.com. voters in delaware have until saturday to register. the deadline in new jersey is may 17th. the mount holly new jersey police department paid tribute to three fallen officers today. this was the annual tribute for patrolman donald aleshire and john holmes of the mount holly police department and william wurst of the hainesport police department. aleshire and wurst were shot back in 1975 by a sniper.

holmes was then paralyzed and died from his wounds 17 years later. each year the mount holly police department holds the ceremony to honor their service and their sacrifice. a bill has been introduced into the new jersey senate that would require all public schools to test their water for lead contamination. here is the full story from new jersey correspondent nora muchanic. >> scary because it can affect your learning ability. >> reporter: at a playground in trenton with her three-year-old granddaughter joyce wise supports testing new jersey schools for lead. her daughter had lead poisoning as a child but it was caught before it caused permanent brain damage. under the proposed bill schools would have to test water twice a year and up to $20 million would be made available to reimburse costs and provide water filters where necessary. >> you send your children off to school to get an education. you're not sending your kids off to school having their brains -- having their bodies

poisoned with lead. >> reporter: last year 3100 new cases of lead poisoning in kids was reported in new jersey. it can lead to permanent brain damage and other health problems. a fund to help led poisoning cleanups was enacted in 2004 but critics say more than $50 million that of money has been diverted to balance state budgets. >> how many kids have been harmed over the years with all these governors who did not spend that money for lead poisoning. >> reporter: for years camden has used bottled water because of high lead levels and since 2005, trenton schools have voluntarily tested water for lead. people we talked to today think all schools should be testing. >> there are many old buildings and there's lots of olds pipes and i'm sure they haven't been upgraded so it would be a really great opportunities. >> reporter: if the legislation is approved, over 2,000 schools would have to be tested and all of the results would be made public. in our new jersey news room, i'm nora muchanic, channel6 "action news." >> dozens of children enjoyed an easter egg hunter this afternoon at the governor's residence in harrisburg.

about an hour. you can sea bright sunshine but you can also see sky6 is doing a lot of moving and shaking and that's because of the gusty winds and the winds will be gusty really all night long. so, the national weather service has posted a wind advisory until midnight tonight for wind gusts up to about 50 miles per hour and even overnight and tomorrow it is going to be very blustery. also, a problem this week an allergy alert. the pollen levels will be medium to high to high all week long. maple and juniper the main culprit also. if you've been looking around you can see that everything is blooming out there. it's going to be a tough week for allergy sufferers. right now though temperatures pretty mild. 62 degrees down from our high of 70 which is 13 degrees above normal. cooler air is beginning to move in in the northwest suburbs. allentown and reading 56, lancaster 55. cape may currently 58 degrees and trenton right now 60 degrees. the wind gusts, though, pretty strong. current wind gusts

philadelphia 43 miles per hour. if it's a garbage day in your neighborhood good luck finding your garbage can. atlantic city airport 39 and again the winds will be strong, really right through the night but the strongest before midnight. the reason why, satellite6 along with action radar showing the same system that many brought us the rain this morning it's double barrel low pressure and what these low pressures are doing is consolidating. they're coming together over nova scotia. they're deepening, strengthening and that's what's pulling down the strong gusty winds. tonight clearing skies, gusty winds through the night but again the strongest before midnight. and getting a little bit on the cool side. 35 degrees and cooler suburbs, 41 degrees for center city. tomorrow we'll see loads of sunshine but with low pressure up to the north and east and high pressure building in from the west, we get that classic wind tunnel effect so wind gusts up to about 25 miles per hour and a lot cooler than today. 56 degrees -- 57 is the normal high for this time of the year so seasonably cool tomorrow. i really think the pick of the week will be on wednesday.

this is when high pressure builds right over us. the winds relax. a slice of nice with a good amount of sunshine and mild air with a high of 60 degrees and by thursday night, we have some rain on the way and that will help to bring in much cooler air. the six to 10-day outlook, this is basically from saturday through next wednesday shows that there's going to be a ridge of high pressure off to the west and that means the greatest temperatures above normal will be on the west coast. here, though, we're going to have this trough and that means temperatures will be trending below normal so the beginning of april is going to be a lot different from march when temperatures were generally well above normal. association the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, tomorrow gusty winds, loads of sunshine but a lot cooler than today. you'll want a jacket tomorrow with a high of 56 degrees. on wednesday the winds relax, mostly sunny and a little bit warmer. i think the pick of the week with a high of 60. you like things warm? what was bump it up to 72 degrees on thursday. sunshine the first half of the
