passengers on the train. the ntsb is en route and will be investigating the crash and derailment. service in the northeast corridor is suspended between philadelphia and wilmington. we are at trainer united methodist church. amtrak palmetto train was heading to georgia. two people confirmed dead one of whom what was the operator of the backhoe. now, one person was seriously injured. 16 people suffered minor injuries. 341 total passengers along with seven crew members. amtrak service on the northeast corridor between philadelphia and wilmington is suspended. we spoke with passengers about their ordeal this morning. i woke up and was thrown into

the seat in front of me, the windows were blown out bide me. there was a -- beside me, there was a fireball. there was decrease speed to hat and yellow smoke surrounding the train as we stopped. we woke up to a boom and hesitation, smoky nasty smelling smoke started coming into the train, it was scary. we havr audio from first responder who were called to the scene shortly after the accident. this is what they found.

we checked the train we have one level three walking wounded. one doa. we'll check another portion of the tracks. we have our second doa located at the impact site of the backhoe. we're continuing to search for more bodies at this time. is of right now, the two confirmed fatalities are believed to be the only death in the crash. there are 16 minor injuries reported and one person is in serious condition. developing right now at noon, investigators are still trying to figure out what caused part of a buildings to come crashing down, this happened in southwest philadelphia. this is a look at the destruction on the 5000 block of warrington avenue. bricks and other debris fell on a car after 6:00 a.m. a man inside the car was hurt and had to be taken to the hospital. we are told he has non-life

threatening injuries. police have closed off this area of warrington avenue stay with "action news" and 6abc.com for the latest on the developing story. some locations are up to 30, dover and wildwood. everybody else feels like february out there this afternoon. especially the poconos, take a look at the mountains feels like 7 lonely as that coral air rushes on in the wake of that system there which produced the heavy weather last night. we had that explosion of thunderstorm activity, the cloud to ground lightning strikes, the thunder was so loud it woke me up out of a dead sleep around midnight. there's the system right there, skirting on by pushing through new england. we'll continue to see the colder air work into mid atlantic and the northeast states over the next several hours before it retreats to the north tomorrow and temperatures skyrocket back in the 60s. the good news it's blustery and chilly, but at least it only last a day and we rebound tomorrow. combination of sun and clouds, it's a quiet finish to the weekend outside of the winds.

what are you learning about the investigation. >> reporter: the presser wrapped up around 30 minutes ago, 35 people were hospitalized after the crash with non-life threatening injuries. the people who died were not passengers on the train. amtrak said a thorough investigation will be conducted into palmetto train 89 which crashed in chester about a mile from where we are. the train struck a backhoe that was on the tracks causing the engine to derail. 341 passengers were on the train along with seven crew members. they were taken off the train an hour or so and taken to a church to be warmed. all further information will come from the national transportation safety board they are en route. they will handle the investigation. amtrak will support their efforts. service is currently suspended between philadelphia and

wind advisory. we saw winds as high as 66 miles per hour earlier today. they will diminish down to 40, had a miles per hour, it will be a windy -- 45 miles per hour. it will be a windy afternoon but not as intense as early on. here's the winds speeds around the delaware and lehigh valleys. 40 in allentown. 43 for philadelphia. 45 in atlantic city and close to 50 in the poconos. as you can imagine this kind of wind is creating all kinds of damage not only do we have trash cans blowing everywhere, uprooted trees and power lines down, look at the image also sent in -- image also sent -- images, sent in by vicky and al sent this picture in this tree is blocking the road. we have numerous power outages, last night we had a couple of

transformers explode in cumberland county. they have all kinds of power outages. we had 71-mile an hour wind gust in dennisville, cape may county. as you saw to the north, look at all the cold air sitting across the mid atlantic and the northeast. that has yet to come tonight. we're dealing with the harsh blustery winds right now. cold temperatures arrive overnight tonight. when i come back we'll talk about when the cold air gets out of here and we'll talk about rain chance in the seven day. as chris mentioned many people in the area are facing big cleanup efforts today after overnight winds that reached 50 and 60 miles per hour. an "action news" viewer who is clearly a syracuse fan posted the instagram of a tree uprooted in the yard in cherry hill, new jersey. a tree fell on a two story home kingly road in cherry hill. no injuries. the winds knocked out to power o

16,000 households in the area. a tree that hit power lines cause a fire at the methodist church. the firefighters struck a second alarm at 49 and pearl street. people living in millville watched of the fire with a mixture of sadness and disbelief. ic only imagine what the members and passengers are going through. the fort thing if there is -- fortunate thing if there is such, nobody was injured. that's important. i'm sure they will rebuilt. again as you heard there were no injuries reported in the fire. investigators say the fire may have been caused by high winds that toppled a tree in front of the church and in turn snapped power lines. firefighters in south jersey are trying to figure out what caused an early-morning house fire.

the action cam was at the scene perry road peterscape may county. it took an hour to get the flames under control there. nobody was hurt. in new jersey, wet roads may have contributed to a head-on collision that left a man in critical condition. we know two cars slammed into one another at midnight at fair view and waynewright street in camden. a 45-year-old man was rushed to the hospital. he is listed in critical condition. school leaders at west chester university are look into two sexual assaults on campus, the first happened on friday morning on the second floor of the new street parking garage. a female student was attacked by a male students. in the second attack, a woman said she was sleeping in her campus dorm when a man she new assaulted her. the suspect is not a west chester student.

police do not believe the two attacks are related. airport in brussels, belgium has opened for the first time in the last 12 days. it was closed since the deadly terror attacks. the airport ceo said today's move is largely symbolic. the airport is praying at only 20% -- operating at only 20% capacity. intensified security is in effect. that includes spot check of vehicles and new controls on people and baggage before they are cleared to enter the terminal. the march 22 suicide bombings, as you remember killed 16 people at the airport and another 16 in the brussels subway. now to the race for the white house. it is 2-minus two days until the owe t-minus two days until the wisconsin primary.
