than 30 minutes about yesterday's deadly crash involving an amtrak train. at this point it is still unclear just who is at fault. that train hit a backhoe at about 8:00 yesterday morning in chester delaware county. "action news" reporter john rawlins live on the scene for us for the latest on the investigation. john. >> reporter: well, the latest, monica, is it will come up in about 30 minutes when the ntsb does brief us. they have been mum so far today. one of the things they have been looking at is what was going on on the tracks at the time of the deadly incident. so, what went wrong? given safety protocols how did the southbound train end up fatally slaming into a backhoe? yesterday the ntsb said it has a locomotive's event recorder which will supply some answers as to the train's speed and what the engineer saw and did approaching the collision. >> we're still gathering the facts at this time. as of now we have recovered the event data recorder, the forward facing video and the end ward facing video from the

locomotive to send to our laboratory in washington, d.c. >> reporter: the train came to a stop near bishop street in trainer. the actual impact was up the track near the booth street bridge in chester. at the time this large yellow track maintenance machine sometimes called a rail vac or vac train was in place on a closed track. sometimes backhoes assist the vac train's crew. it's also normal for a safety supervisor to be on location and be in radio contact with dispatchers in order to avoid a collision. investigators are expected to look at the instructions given sunday to dispatchers, the engineer and work crews. were they all on the same page or was there a failure to communicate? so we should be getting a better idea of what the ntsb has been looking at today, what it has learned and what it can report so far today when it gives its briefing in about 30 minutes. live in trainer, john rawlins, channel6 "action news." monica. >> thank you, john. from our new jersey news room now, south jersey man is facing murder charges accused

of slashing his wife's vote and leavin's throatand leaving . about the time of a crash on route 130 in delran township. fortune was arrested at a nearby diner for it. his clothes were still covered in blood at the time. he is now being held on $300,000 bail. >> former philadelphia eagle lesean mccoy will not be charged connection way fight at an olde city nightclub. this video shows that fight in question which happened back in february. off duty philadelphia police officers were involved. today philadelphia district attorney seth williams said there wasn't enough evidence to hold mccoy responsible. attacks and strokes even for people who don't already have heart disease. >> just one of the headlines coming out of some important medical meetings this week. health reporter and registered nurse ali gorman at the big board for us with more. hi, ali. >> hi, guys. millions of people with heart disease are at risk for heart disease already take statin drugs which help lower bad cholesterol a new study from the cardiology meeting in chicago suggest the medication could help many more people. in a study patients with moderate heart risk taking statins had 25 percent heart attacks than those taking dummy pills. a separate study looked at a common complaint. found a new pill which blocks cholesterol in the digestive tract and new injectable drugs are good alternatives that can be used to treat tough to treat patients. >> there are often people that have very lie levels of cholesterol that need to be lowered. many already have coronary heart disease or other

manifestations of high cholesterol. >> the injectable drugs seem to work better than the new pill but it is still very expense is. >> reporter: it costs about $14,000 a year. also today, the size your waist could help predict the chances for heart disease better than looking at body weight or body mass index. researchers followed 200 men and women with diabetes. they have a greater risk for heart disease but none in the study had symptoms. doctors found the greater the waste size, the more problems that someone had with their heart's main pumping chamber and that can lead to heart disease and to heart failure. now other studies have shown this as well but fat in the abdominal area possess a greater risk than fat elsewhere in the body. the apple shape is actually more dangerous than someone who is pair shaped. the study looked at people with diabetes but the advice is the same for everyone. for ladies you want to keep your waistline less than

yesterday temperatures stuck in the 40's. today made it up to 65 degrees in philadelphia. currently it's 55. dover it's 70's. but the lehigh valley and berks county have really been stuck in that cold air all day long, temperatures only in the 40's and this also brought some pretty significant rain across the lehigh valley for a good portion of the day. that band just sitting there. it's finally beginning to sync down to the south. it will continue to push to the southeast as we head through the evening hours. future tracker showing around 7 o'clock tonight this is when we really begin dry out north and west of the i-95 corridor with some pockets of some steadier rain across south jersey and delaware. it all moves off shore around 11 o'clock but look at what begins to happen. temperatures dropping down into the 20's in reading. tomorrow morning the sunshine is back but look at these temperatures. really across-the-board below freezing, so a freeze warning has been posted. so, if you have started any planting or if your fruit

trees have started blossoming from the warmer weather we had back in march you do want to protect the plants. not just for tonight but also for tomorrow night. a freeze warning is really in effect for two nights. so, future tracker showing not only do we have the cold air tomorrow morning, we also have some gusty winds. winds gusting up to about 30 miles an hour so wind chill tomorrow morning in the teens. bundle up as you step out for work or school. and then in the afternoon wind chills really stuck in the 30's so it's going to be cold tomorrow. for the five day at 5:00 showing tomorrow 43 degrees the high despite the sunshine with wind chills no better than the 30's. wednesday 55 degrees, some high thin clouds. thursday we get back into the 60's but it comes with rain, some showers, perhaps some thunderstorms. 51 degrees on friday and saturday it's brisk and chilly with a chance of a shower. the high back down into the 40's. adam we'll let you know if you warm up for the second half of the weekend coming up in the full accuweather 7-day forecast. it's going to be a rollercoaster ride guys.

>> let's go live to southwest philadelphia where we're awaiting an update from the ntsb on yesterday's deadly amtrak crash in chester. that press conference is expected to start any minute. we'll have much more for you coming up next at 5:30. >> ♪

>> ♪ >> we have breaking news we are finding out the latest about that amtrak train crash yesterday. let's go to an ntsb press conference right now in southwest philadelphia. >> which has begun. there is a large amount of data to be looked at from these activities. the track group has identified the point of impact at milepost 15.7 which is just north of the booth street underpass. the track and engineering group will beginner viewing employees of the work crew tomorrow. survival factors investigators documented the equipment damage and will be testing emergency systems such as the public address system and emergency lighting tomorrow. investigators in the ntsb lab have reviewed the event recorder data. the event recorder data was of good quality and recorded up to the point of collision. the engineer placed the train into emergency approximately five seconds from the end of the recording.

speed at that time was 106 miles per hour and the track speed at that location is 110 miles per hour. the forward facing video was of good quality. captured in color and contained audio. the video recorded up to the collision. the video shows that there was construction equipment on the track and work train equipment on the track immediately adjacent to the amtrak train's track. i'll take some questions at this time. >> you say it was on the track adjacent. then how did the collision occur, the impact. did the backhoe get off the adjacent track and get onto the main track. >> again let me state what our investigators from the lab in d.c. stated from the forward facing video. the video shows that there was construction equipment on the

track. and work train equipment on the track immediately adjacent to the amtrak train's track. >> so, was the backhoe on the track. >> the backhoe was on the track where the amtrak train was traveling. >> that train was in the right place where it was supposed to be, is that -- >> i can't -- i can't speculate at this time. >> the train authorized to be on that track and was the construction equipment authorized to be on the track. >> i cannot speculate at this time. we're still gathering facts on that information as to who had the authority to be on that track. >> track was being worked on, the track the train was traveling on. >> again i do not have that information at this time. >> we have been listening to investigators with the national transportation safety board. they're looking into the possibility that missed communication on several levels was to blame in the death of 2:00 a.m. track workers in yesterday's deadly crash when a passenger train

collided with a backhoe that was on the tracks and of course the ntsb still trying to determine how that backhoe, why that backhoe was on the tracks to begin with. of course we are following the story for you. our coverage of the deadly crash continuing on 6abc.com. the latest on the investigation, photos from the crash site and videos of pals jersey describing the chaotic moments at the scene yesterday. >> in other news a man was struck by a car and killed walking to work today in berks county. it happened about 6:00 a.m. on the fifth street highway in muhlenberg township. meals say 68-year-old ignacio lobo had gotten off a public bus and then tried to walk across the five lane highway. he crossed the street against the traffic signal and was hit by a vehicle that had the green light. lobo died at the scene. he worked at the nearby pet smart store. a long standoff with police in lehigh county ended peacefully early this morning. state police were called to the scene on wreck's town road near mountain road in washington township last

night. calls were made to 911 about a man in a home there possibly with a gun. the standoff went into the overnight hours and finally ended about 3:30 this morning we're told. no one was hurt. and we are waiting to learn more about the investigation into the brutal murder of a woman in delaware county. 36-year-old markia benson was found naked beaten and stabbed in her bathtub in secane last week. officials said there were no signs of forced entry. upper darby police said they did question a person of interest but no charges have been filed. >> police looking for armed man who opened gunfire. happened outside of 51st and market street. the suspect in this surveillance video walked out of the store then for some reason started shooting. one person was hit in the chest. he is still in the hospital recovering tonight. a woman is suspected of using children as a accomplices to pull off a robbery inside of a manayunk

business. these are surveillance photos from christie's nail salon taken on friday. detectives say the woman stole from salon employees while they were working and the two children reportedly acted as lookouts. it had become a controversial issue at princeton university. should woodrow wilson's name remain on the school's public policy building despite calls to remove it? well, today princeton's board of trustees decided to keep the former president's name on the building despite woodrow wilson's racist past and his support of segregation. the decision was announced on university web site today. many students had protested demanding the university remove wilson's name. woodrow wilson was a graduate of princeton and university president back in 1902. >> now to the 2016 race for the white house. the the republican and democratic candidates are eyeing the next primary prize, wisconsin. this while continuing to trade jabs out on the campaign trail. so, how are wisconsin voters

>> all right, pretty wet out there presently right now as we have a front that's dropping in from the north on double scan live radar and we have some pockets of moderate rain but beyond this rain, the bigger change will be the cold winds moving in from the north. we have a steady area of rain now into northern parts of burlington county that extends towards cherry hill and parts of camden county here. very wet roadways across 206, route 38 even route 70 and even to the south and west we're still dealing with some light showers in parts of lancaster county, northern parts of chester county but as you can see there's a band of rain all the way from delaware county in and around media, southern parts of chester county down route one and then northern new castle county into maryland. all this is pushing off to the south and east and all of the rain will be off the coast between about 8:00 and 9 o'clock tonight. as we look at temperatures, they're dropping into the 40's and have been in the 40's through much of the day today.

the lehigh valley and reading 55 right now in philadelphia, 67 still in millville. we topped off in the 70's in southern new jersey while to the north it was only in the 40's today, so really all about location on those temperatures from north to south. in fact we're dealing with snow in boston. four to 8-inches, cold enough on the northern ends of the storm and that cold air will wrap in as the low deepens and pushes away. future tracker at 8 o'clock tonight 46 philadelphia. that's when the rain starts to exit the city. drying out into the 30's north and west but again it's pretty quick nor rain to push offer the coast by 11 o'clock tonight. 38 philadelphia, dropping below freezing already to the north and west into the upper 20's and by tomorrow morning, 8:00 a.m., these are air temperatures, not wind chills, mid-20's for most of those northwestern suburbs, upper 20's philadelphia, down to the south which means we have a freeze warning in effect for basically the entire viewing area tonight and that will extend into tomorrow night so
