local driver is able to walk away from this precarious position in fairmount park and philadelphia's new fire commissioner will be introduced today at city hall. and the big story is the change for the better in the accuweather forecast s rainy conditions will soon be replaced with brighter skies today. sky 6 hd showing us the view of the ben franklin bridge as the last of the showers are starting to move out. for more on that lets go to david murphy he is tracking the forecast for us on the "action news" big board. >> the situation with the rain is vast improved over the last couple of hours, the rain has cleared philadelphia and some light stuff pushing east from north philadelphia and what we have left over land is broken and highlighted in the lighter shades of green. the one exception is cape may county, with a darker shade of yellow coming through and we expect over the next several

hours and even sooner than that the rest of the rain will push all the way over to the east. and on satellite the fact that we have a lot of clearing to the west and cooler air is coming in but we are transitioning from sunny skies all the way to the shore, so things are getting better out there. it's cool, we were up above 60 degrees for the morning rush hour and now with the rain circulating through its a chillier feel. 53 in philadelphia and 50 in allentown, it's mild closer to the shore where we haven't quite got all the cooler air in. a wind turned out of the northwest now at 12 miles per hour, and a little breezy and cloudy across the region, and rather chilly if you have plans to head out today. we'll turn sunshine out, and 63 is the forecast high and right around the average of 63. 40 is the overnight low, and below average i should say and

today. adam teal will take over the fire department and he will be announced this afternoon. thiel recently served with homeland security. and blanch carnie will be the first woman to hold the position, carnie has been with the philadelphia prison system since 1995. in other news one man has died after a destructive car crash in lehigh county. it hit a house sparking a fire in south whitehall township. chad pradelli is live at the scene now with more on this deadly chain of events. chad? >> the cleanup is now underway, this is what police are telling us happened at 3:30 this morning. the suv was traveling eastbound on fairmount and hit a light poll and parked car and went into the home and burst into

flames. the suv's impact in the house burst the vehicles into flames startling away the homeowners, a registered nurse came from the house and tried to give aid to the young man ejected from the suv but could not save him. the female inside of the car survived. >> we believe it struck a parked car and then veered into the house and then caught on fire. >> there was a big boom and i heard my neighbor screaming. >> sabine's 7-year-old son heard the sound and did not tell his mother until a half hour after the wreck. >> i can't believe what i saw, it was scary, it could have flipped on my side. >> reporter: police have not determined the cause of the crash, a liquor bottle was found amidst the wreckage and none the occupants of the charred home

were injured. >> thankfully the family is okay, people need to be care of driving next time. >> the name of the deceased is not released pending notification of the family. a member of the family is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. there is now a $10,000 we ward for information about a double shooting that left a rutgers university student dead. is happened at an off campus apartment. police have not released the name of the other person wounded. rutgers says this was not a random act and is not a threat to other students. a man was found shot to death inside of a car in west philadelphia. investigators discovered the body after 12:00 this morning on the 600 block of north redfield

meteorologist, david murphy, is here now with a look at the afternoon forecast. >> it's improving already. stormtracker 6 live double scan you can see that the rain is pushing to the east, which is nice. philadelphia drying out and even parts of south jersey that had some steadier rain earlier down to just some odd sprinkles and showers. most of what you see is highlighted in lighter shades of green and flipping its way off the coach. as we go farther south, the heavier stuff that was bothering cape may county is on its way to leave, but still steadier rain there in cape may, but as i leave wut wide view, we are getting close to the end of the steady stuff and over the next couple of hours, most of the that will be off the coast. as we look outside, we are in cape may and that is where some of that rain is hanging on, along with thicker cloud cover, late today and in cape may we'll

see the return of sun, 50 is your current temperature, we are going backwards with the numbers today. we started with a dawn temperature of 61 degrees, all the way down to 50 with the returns out of the north northwest drawing in colder air and the temperatures dropped a bit with the onset of that steadier rain, despite the wind direction though, i think when the sun breaks back we'll see the numbers bounce up. right now in lancaster, can you see a milder number than what we see in philadelphia, partly because the clouds out there are thinning out a bit. chillier and breezy if you step outside now but getting better into the next couple of hours. stormtracker 6 live double scan on future tracker 6 showing you by 2:00 or 3:00, most of that rain is off the coast and the rain is breaking up in the northern and western suburbs, it looks like we transition to a lot of sun between now and 3:00 in the north and west and as late as 6:00, 6:30, we could see
