in police custody after a stabbing inside of a local school. >> investigators say an eighth grader attacked a classmate with scissors in the logan section of philadelphia. that is where reporter gray hall joins us with details and reaction from parents. >> reporter: well sara and rick, frightening times for parents this morning at this school behind me. the good news is the 14-year-old student is okay as she recovers as investigators try to figure out what led up to the stabbing. >> frantic parents rushed to the elementary school in the logan neighborhood after reports of a stabbing. >> we happened to be riding past on our way to work and the cops were outside of our kids' school. >> two eighth grade girls got into a fight in the hallway before the classes started. the 14-year-old victim was stabbed with scissors in the

arms and shoulder. >> i can confirm that these students know each other and have had a dispute before. >> chopper 6 hd was on the scene as the suspect was brought out in handcuffs and the victim was alert as she was transported to the hospital. >> someone tells me they got stabbed inside and i'm asking and they are not giving out information. families should have been called by now. >> it's not just this school but a lot of schools. i think this school is a good school, it's just the kids and parents, if they are not active or into their kids' lives what do you expect? >> reporter: as parents come to pick up their kids, many were relieved their child was not involved in the violence and the situation was resolved. >> by the grace of god i live around the corner and everything like now it took three minutes to get around the corner. they are fine and i see her face and she is cool and now i have

to go back to work. >> reporter: and of course this investigation continues, that 14-year-old is still recovering at this point. police are trying to figure out if the 14-year-old got the knife or scissors from home or here on campus. >> gray thank you. from our new jersey newsroom now, police say they caught the man that carjacked a 77-year-old woman in a grocery store parking lot. investigators say that robert mclean pulled the victim out of her car monday afternoon out size of a acme. the 47-year-old is accused of throwing the woman to the ground and taking off if her silver kia. police spotted him with the stolen vehicle and had the victim's handbag at the time of his arrest. a father remains hospitalized after being carjacked and shot. it happened while he was waiting to pick up his son in west kensington yesterday. they are still trying to track

down his attackers. >> reporter: he was parked here when this happened and today he is in the hospital with head lacerations from being pistol whipped and a gunshot wound to his neck. but thankfully he is recovering. >> reporter: sara says each day her brother comes to pick up his son who she watches for an hour every day after school. but as cq waited on the block in west kensington, he was shot and carjacked by two suspects. >> he beeped the horn when he was waiting for his son to come out and someone came out and followed him and told him they were with the dea and hit him with a gun. >> the suspects took off in his

2016 dodge ram pickup and left the 25-year-old father of three bleeding in the street and officers on patrol found him and rushed him to the hospital. >> thank god the kids were sleeping and they didn't see anything or what happened. >> the brand new pickup was recovered minutes later a half mile later on randolph street. >> we found what appeared to be fresh fingerprints on the driver door, so the detectives will dust this vehicle for fingerprints and see if they get any dna. >> praying he will be fine. >> reporter: at this point police don't have detailed descriptions of the suspects, they did take off in the pickup truck on norris street and police are checking nearby surveillance cameras to see if they can provide more information on who these people might be. katherine scott, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. there is another twist in

bill cosby's legal troubles, the median's attorneys are are fighting to reseal his deposition testimony about extramarital affairs and giving quaaludes to women. he does not want the testimony to be used by women accusing him of sexual assault and defamation. the arguments will be heard later this week. thousands of verizon workers are on strike this afternoon. they have been without a contract for months and as promised they walked off the job this morning. annie mccormick is live now in chinatown. >> reporter: rick, picketers out here since this morning and there is no signs of slowing down. they will not allow workers to have entry into the building but at this point there is no sign of an injunction just yet. both sides indicate they want to come to an agreement but there is no deal at this point. outside of verizon, the ticket

line is in full force. starting at 6:00 a.m. the employees walked off the job where they worked without a contract since august. this is the second strike since 2011. here picketers blocked the exits from employees who are not striking banishing a small crowd to a corner across the street. >> the workers at odds with verizon are members of two unions. the communication workers of america and the brotherhood of electrical workers. according to both unions, the core issue is this -- >> what the company wants to do is sub-contract the work so the out of state are in the call center environment sometimes out of the state or out of the country. >> verizon responded. saying we are looking to senjobs

overseas is nonsense. the workers need to start telling the truth. >> on the bargaining table verizon offered wage increases and retirement benefits and 401(k)'s with company match. and long-term health care. but they are concerned about their future. >> we work hard for them and they don't want to give back. >> 33 years and they want to take my pension back. i don't think so verizon. >> there was conversation yesterday but it was not anything meaningful. >> reporter: now verizon does service millions of people and it's not certain how it could affect their customers. verizon did train a number of none union employees to take the place of the employees striking until the strike is over. which is indefinite at this point. reporting live in chinatown, channel 6 "action news."

19-year-old ethan couch appeared in adult court for the first time this morning. the judge said he will not make an immediate decision on how long he will have to stay in jail. he was arrested in december after fleeing to mexico with his mother. senators in north carolina are holding a hearing on a controversial bill that forces transgender people to use the bathroom of their gender. this after state business leaders called the proposal unnecessary. people are expected to pack into this hearing. a 72-year-old grandmother has quite a story to tell. ann rogers and her dog survived nine days in the arizona desert. they were driving to phoenix to visit roger's grandchildren and ran out of gas in the wilderness, she is prepared with

volkswagon is cutting manager bonuses after the company cheated on emissions tests. pay will be cut to send a message but volkswagon has not announced how much the bonuses will be reduced. they admitted to cheating emission tests but installing software. the tsa is facing mounting pressure to cut back on long security lines, some airports have seen lines double in size. in the course of a week last month, nearly 6800 people missed their flights because of security delays. it has decreased 16% in the last five years partially because of budget issues. we have a consumer alert. an oregon food producer is recalling macaroni and potato salad sold in 21 states including pennsylvania.

they say it may be contaminated with listeria. it was packaging under their brand name including wal-mart potato salad and items under the deli counter label. there are no illnesses so far. a famous tech billionaire is donating his own money to fight kansas. sean parker will create the parker institute for cancer therapy. parker was also facebook's first president and is providing $250 million to speed up the development of cancer fighting drugs and institutes including the university of pennsylvania will share their findings. the "action news" team sought working on stories for today at 4:00. scammers are targeting websites like linked in and tricking people into thinking they got a job. the accuweather forecast is coming up.

karen is with us today and back indoors. how does it feel out there? >> it's cool i like it warmer but it's sunny, you can't beat that. >> but it's getting warmer. >> that's right. lets look at stormtracker 6 live double scan we are dry around the area. we are looking good, let go on outside and see what this day looks like, chopper 6 hd is doing flying, and we look above at the philadelphia museum of art, we look to the sky and hard pressed to find clouds, lots of sunshine out there today. we are in a sunny stretch, we maintain that through much of the seven-day forecast, it's slowly turning warmer, this is not really the day for that, and temperatures below average, but every day after that we inch up

a bit. you'll like the trend. and a beautiful weekend. currently 52 degrees, we started this morning at 40 in philadelphia. so temperatures have risen a bit. the dew point 25 and pressure is holding steadies and winds are light but breezy at times. and the ocean temperature is 49 degrees. this is a nice image, satellite 6 along with action radar showing nothing happening, we have high pressure anchored right above and you can see perfectly clear skies and it's beautiful out there today. and a stretch we'll maintain as well. we'll take a wider look and see the storms from texas and new orleans and quiet from the east coast, a quiet stretch of weather coming your way. here is hour by hour, 2:00 p.m. 56 degrees and lots of sunshine and maybe a cloud or two in the sky and 4:00 p.m. 57 and 6:00 p.m. a high of 58, temperatures are below average for this time
