football stadium at temple and calling for economic and racial justice and there is more. the day of action protesters are now live at broad and arch outside of the convenience center, we are looking live from chopper 6 hd and "action news" reporter, sara bloomquist, is there as well. >> reporter: well jim, this protest stopped here at broad and arch. they came down broad and circled around city hall and set up speakers, they have a stage here in front of a large mcdonald's and a number of issues they are talking upon here but it's primarily a rally for a higher minimum wage. they are asking for $15 an hour, this started at 2:00 this afternoon and students gathered at the bell tower at temple university protesting a proposed football stadium. and then they met up with people

protesting for a higher minimum wayne. they headed down to broad street and city hall and circled back to broad and arch. we spoke with some of them along the route. >> i feel like temple and the entire community don't respect us and the people around us. when you come to temple there is this whole environment of us versus them with the locals and the students. >> we are fed up. >> i'm out here supporting everybody that is out here fighting for $15. >> we worked at mcdonald's for almost four years and i'm making the same amount for four years, i need better for my son and for my family. >> right now he is home with my mom -- >> as we come back here live, there is a really large police presence here. they are blocking off the streets and quite a bit of traffic in the area as well.

this area just gridlocked at the moment. we are live in center city, i'm sara bloomquist, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. philadelphia police are investigating a shooting death today of an 83-year-old woman in german town, it happened in the 400 block of east cosgrove at 12:30 this afternoon. trish hartman is live at the location. >> reporter: well jim, family members have identified the victim as mary morton, police say she was 83 years old and shot in the chest in her home. friends and family gathered here on her block incomplete shock. >> mary morton's granddaughter, robin, says she found out the news on tv that her vibrant, spunky grandmother was shot to death. >> a great person and walked around the neighborhood and very open with everyone. >> police say that the 83-year-old was shot twice in

the chest inside of her home on the 400 block of east cosgrove street in german town this afternoon. she was rushed to einstein medical center where she was pronounced dead. police went in and out with evident bags and people gathered in disbelief over her violent death. >> this is not her. no. it doesn't add up. >> she would give you anything. you know, that is how i picture her. her and her husband and the whole family. >> people say her husband is in his 90s and has alzheimer's disease and he remained in the home while they investigated. >> i thought it was the husband, and then i found out it was her. >> an autopsy is schedule for tomorrow morning and police have recovered a weapon but have not released information about a motive. no arrests have been made.

trish hartman, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. a two car crash caused major traffic delays on i-95 in the holmesburg section of philadelphia this afternoon. the accident happened in the southbound lanes a mile south of academy road and one carver overturned and the other smashed into a construction sign and fortunately nobody was hurt. the second man charged in a carjacking in 2014 that ened in a deadly crash is now heading to prison. jonathan rosa was scheduled today and sentenced to 45 to 90 years in jail. prosecutors say that rosa and crawford forced a real estate agent into her own suv and they say they sexually assaulted her while they drove her around and they lost control and slammed into a fruit stand in the tioga section of philadelphia and taisha williams and her three children were there and they were killed.

crawford is sentenced to 130 years behind bars. police say officials have broke up a gang that terrorized areas of philadelphia. 15 members are behind bars tonight. police say they operated around 10th and thompson and respond for at least 10 shootings. philadelphia city council held the first meeting this week on mayor kenney's soda tax proposal. "action news" reporter, john rawlins taking a closer look at the tax and who would bear the burden and what it's designed to accomplish. >> how will the sugary drink tax play out for consumers, they say the 3 cents an ounce wholesale tax passes through to shoppers penny for penny, dollar for dollar. >> the current price of turkey
