remember last friday, i was tracking cold air and snow. we've got the opposite this weekend. take a look at highs over the eastern half of the country today. 65 degrees in philadelphia. that's 1 degree above normal. so, that's seasonable but if you look to the west you can see temperatures in the 70's really building under a strong ridge of high pressure and that air mass is heading our way. what's not heading our way any time soon, clouds. satellite6 along with action radar slowing with that high pressure parked right over us, we have sinking air so that leads any clouds well away from us so the evening planner for your friday night if you're out on the town a pretty nice night. you do want a jacket even now, 60 degrees by 7 o'clock then temperatures will be dropping down through the 50's so it will be a little bit on the chilly side tonight but if we look at the next three days, tomorrow will be 2 degrees warmer than today. sunday, 7 degrees warmer than today and monday is going to feel like june. 15 degrees warmer than today.

"action news" reporter trish hartman is live by boathouse row. trish, what steps are being taken to make sure it's a safe summer on the trail? >> reporter: well, jim, the very people who use this trail either on foot or on wheels will soon be the ones helping to keep it safe. a new initiative is drafting volunteers who will learn how to help police keep an eye on things here on the trail.

it's finally a beautiful spring day and that means the schuylkill river trail is packed. >> i usually come here like walk or run. this is ideal if i can get out at lunch for a little bit. >> reporter: but some users like gina say they've had to keep their guard up. she says a group of teenagers harassed her and her husband on the trail last fall. >> they're very confrontational and then since they're in a group they can run away and not get any consequences. >> reporter: she was happy to hear about a new citizen trail watch organized after police say groups of teens on bikes were harassing and attacking people on the trail. volunteers can now register to attend a free training session on april 27th where they'll learn how to properly report crime and take suspect descriptions. >> we want as many people as possible that utilize the trail that have a interin the trail that love this trail to come on out, get some training on how to volunteer in keeping the trail safe. be each other's eyes and ears u councilman kenyatta johnson says surveillance cameras are

in the works. community organizations like run 215 and the philadelphia bicycle coalition have teamed up with police to get the word out about the new initiative. >> it's just a matter of all of us who are using it as a community taking care of each other and ensuring that safety. >> reporter: now, registration for that training session just opened today. 50 spots are available and you can register online. you can find a link at 6abc.com. reporting along the schuylkill river trail, trish hartman, channel6 "action news. jim. >> thank you, trish. authorities in new jersey are investigating a murder in willingboro. police found 31-year-old colby rogers shot to death inside a car. the vehicle was on the street along the 600 block of woodhaven lane just after 3:00 this morning. no arrests have been made. philadelphia police made an arrest in a deadly hit and run crash in kensington. 62-year-old ramon morales is charged with murder and

homicide by vehicle. that after investigators say he struck and killed a man riding a scooter on wednesday night. police say morales' car dragged thomas dunbar hundreds of feet before taking off. dunbar died 30 minutes later at the hospital. fire crews in bucks county battle a house fire this afternoon in richboro. the flames broke out just before 3:30 in the 200 block of patrick drive. crews dealt with heavy smoke. fortunately there were no reports of any injuries. a car ended up on the side of the university avenue bridge in philadelphia this morning. chopper6 was over the scene just after 11:00. between 34th street and grays ferry avenue in grays ferry. police say the driver lost control and crashed into the median. fortunately he nor anybody else was hurt. the bill cosby sexual assault saga was back in philadelphia federal court today. lawyers addressed a number of issues. "action news" reporter vernon odom was there.

>> reporter: lawyers for bill cosby and former temple university employee andrea constand left a federal court hearing today refusing to comment on the case. their clients did not appear. andrea constand signed an agreement with bill cosby 10 years ago accepting an undisclosed amount of money. now she wants her confidentiality agreement with the entertainer lifted claiming he's violated deal already is that trying to intimidate her and other witnesses in the criminal assault case against him in montgomery county. cosby is going to federal court trying to get the money back from constand and the criminal charges dropped claiming he made an agreement with former montgomery county d.a. bruce castor that he would not prosecute cosby in exchange for his testimony in couldn't standsconstand's crimi. cosby's legal team claims she

broke the agreement by cooperating with kevin steele the current montgomery county d.a. who is now prosecuting the legend. lawyers here today agree to continue negotiating some sort of deal. the most intriguing news today, the criminal trial for bill cosby in norristown montgomery county won't begin until sometime in early 2017. at the federal courthouse in center city, i'm vernon odom, channel6 "action news. >> camden county health department says a woman has tested positive for the zika virus. health officials say the woman is not pregnant. she recently returned from traveling to a country where the zika virus is present. the virus is linked to birth defects like microcephaly. there are also reports of rare neurologic problems in adults. also in camden county, cooper university hospital has been fined thousands of dollars for health and safety violations. osha slapped a $55,000 fine on

the hospital for allowing employees to be exposed to needles stick injuries and blood borne pathogen hazards. cooper says it is taking the report seriously and will address the issue. the hospital has until may third to make changes. atlantic city has made a partial payment to the school district. mayor don guardian says the district received more than $3 million this morning butter state officials say it is only part of the money that was due in march and nothing from april has yet been paid. today's partial payment will keep the schools opened for now. atlantic city is on the verge of running out of money and is trying to prevente prevent a jum clearing the money it has. frontier airlines is clear for takeoff for new routes from trenton mercer airport. the airline has been flying out of trenton for four years. but starting this summer, it will fly nonstop to atlanta,

charlotte, chicago, detroit and raleigh durham. it is part of the airline's expansion into more than 40 new markets. a company from ireland has put down roots in our area. delaware governor jack markell welcomed ab group to newark today. ab group is a 30-year-old irish manufacturer of paper bags and packaging products. also on hand anne anderson the irish ambassador to the united states. this is the company's first plant in the u.s. and it brings with it 90 new jobs. coming up on "action news tonight a road in chester county abrupting closes today and it's causing a problem for people who live nearby. ly we'll find out why neighbors are upset. plus, new jersey first responders come together to practice for an emergency situation. the flyers have that big playoff game tomorrow, game two against the caps. jaime apody with that story. cecily tynan comes back with more on the weekend

neighborhood streets much to the annoyance of neighbors. this is all part of this construction behind me here. it's about a $7 million construction project -- excuse me $5 million construction project part of a $70 million school project. some drivers turning around today taken by surprise by this morning's road closure. >> wish i knew it was here so i didn't come down this road. that would have been nice. >> reporter: now you backtrack. >> yes. >> reporter: the road closed in order to widen it. the goal to handle increased traffic when two new schools open next year he. still to come, redistricting. some kids shifted to different schools, some parents upset their children will be in three different schools in three years. >> you're right. there is one group that has the potential for three moves. and that is this year's current kindergarten class. >> reporter: the superintendent understands the worry saying nothing, though, has been cast in stone until the board decides later this year. >> for the final determination it has not been made on redistricting. this is a process. >> reporter: this massive

construction project has been controversial in the past, the lands a one time golf course taken by eminent domain against its owner's wishes then two years ago neighbors tried in vain to save some of these 300 mature trees slated to come down for new sports fields. the trees are now just a memory but the fields remain a sore point. two of them will be artificial turf, made with material some think could be unhealthy. neighbors say the material is being looked at by the feds. >> they're going to be crumb rubber and the government has now said -- they decided to do a study on this that may take two to three years. >> reporter: neighbors wants district to delay installation until the results are out. the superintendent says the district is taking adequate precautions. >> the board has decided on proceeding with the turf, that is correct. >> reporter: association the artificial turf a go. redistricting details still to be determined. and drivers in this area of chester county getting used to the first of two scheduled closing of pot house road. live in schuylkill township, john rawlins channel6 "action

>> sounds like a reasonable idea. >> perfect. storm tracker6 live double scan slowing no rain out there, no rain in sight in the immediate future and today a perfect day to go out to the playground. the action cam in franklin square where a lot of little ones and their parents enjoying the gorgeous sunshine and it's just going to get better. super saturday. take a look at these temperatures. the average high for this time of year 64. we'll be a few degrees warmer than that. 67 degrees in philadelphia, the same in allentown, reading 68, wilmington 65. if you are planning to head to the shore those winds off the ocean, it is will be quite a bit cooler so take a sweatshirt. temperatures generally in the mid-50's along the beaches. and we're looking at the longest dry stretch of the year so far. started this past wednesday likely will continue to next thursday. that's nine days in a row without any rain. the last time we had a stretch this long or longer was back

in december for 11 days without rain. not a drought yet just a dry spell and lithe a lot of people are enjoying that. philadelphia 64 degrees currently, allentown 65, trenton 63, wilmington 61 and again with those winds off the ocean, temperatures in the low 50's along the shore. but satellite6 along with action radar showing that high pressure, that backup bubble that protective dome you can see how it's just clearing out a slice of nice right over us. some showers down to the deep south. more across the plains. but with this high pressure just not moving, we stay dry and sunny right through the weekend into next week. so, for your friday night, it will be clear. it will be a chilly night, maybe a little bit of patchy frost in the pine barrens in new jersey but nothing widespread. allentown 35, wilmington 39, philadelphia 42 millville 32 and trenton down to 37 degrees. tomorrow there is low pressure that's banked off the eastern seaboard so that will bring gusty winds down the shore but high pressure protecting us.

loads of sunshine a high of 67 degrees and again 55 degrees down the shore. on sunday, this high pressure builds a little bit farther to the west. that brings us warmer air. 74 degrees with temperatures around 60 at the shore but with this warm air there is a serious side to it. you do not want to leave your kids or your pets in a car because it can warm up very quickly. study from stanford university showed with air temperature as low as 72 degrees, the car interior will heat up 40 degrees in an hour. 112 degrees at 72 air temperature, 96 heats up to 136 and most of this happens within the first 30 minutes. so, when you're talking about temperatures like that, that can cause heat stroke, that can cause death, so do not leave your kids, do not leave your pets in an enclosed vehicle. the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, look at all the sun. 67 degrees tomorrow, splendid sunshine. on sunday, bump it up to

74 degrees and monday if you like summer, it's going to feel like june with a high of 80 degrees and then temperatures start trending down. a cold front moves through on tuesday morning likely moves through dry with just a little bit of cloud cover, drops temperatures back down to 68 degrees. wednesday 68 degrees. then we begin to heat back up on thursday. a possibility of a few showers as passover begins an high of 75 degrees. one of those weekends you want to get outside and put on that sunscreen. >> thank you cecily. finally tonight the sounds of buddy holly were alive and well today at the katz jcc. this is cherry hill. >> ♪ hundreds of folks turned out to a seniors dance to spend the morning enjoying a little music. the dance was a collaboration between the jcc and the cherry hill township art school.
