magee, jeff skversky and walter perez. saturday night i'm walter perez. neighborhood across the region spent this sunny saturday getting involved in spring clean ups. in 100 days the city of philadelphia takes enter stage in the selection for the democratic presidential nominee. but the big story on "action news" is breaking news, a four year-old girl has been shot and killed inside a home there. it happened this have afternoon on the 200 block of mayfield street. the "action news" reporter jeff chirico is live there with the details, jeff? >> reporter: walter, family, friend, neighbors are stun, they described the four year-old girl as a smart, beautiful child and they just want to know how this could have happened. the young girl's body was removed from the home just moment ago. homicide detectives are still inside the house here on the 200 block of east mayfield street piecing together what led to the shooting and who pulled the trigger. police said that the girl was shot once inside her home just before 2:30 and was pronounced

dead by medics on the scene. little girl lived here with her mom, dad and six siblings. neighbor say mom was pro he cantive of her children and would only let them play in the backyard because she was afraid of the crime on the streets. >> i just wanted to bring kid out. no i'm in the bringing kid out here. no, no. sweet, loving little girl. she was full of life. she was always willing to help. she was in love with her big sister and little brother. >> reporter: back out here live, as police wrap up the investigation we are told a gun was recovered but no arrests have been made. on a side note it has been a particularly bloody day for children across the country, a one year-old was shot in the neck in chicago and an infant was shot in the face and killed in detroit. we will update this developing story on six abc.com and on "action news" at 11:00. we are live from kensington, jeff chirico for channel six "action news". >> thanks, jeff. violence struck earlier

this morning in another part of the north philadelphia, where a 23 year-old man was shot 12 times, amazingly though he survived. this happened just after 2:00 a.m. in the 2400 block of germantown avenue just outside the j and s tavern. police are working to determine if an altercation inside that bar might have have led to the shooting. victim was taken to penn presbyterian where he remains in stable condition tonight. from our new jersey news room police in camden are investigating a shooting that ended with a man another justly injured. it happened at 1:30 this morning in an alley off of the 1200 block of morton street. man was shot several times and taken to cooper university hospital where he remains in serious condition. hundreds of people, turned out to a march in north philadelphia to call for an end to violence. police commissioner ross was among them. crowd walk from progress plaza down broad street to city hall. today's event was sponsored by the group called one day at a time. a police officer in philadelphia a was injured overnight during a car crash in west philadelphia. the officer was responding to a call to assist another

area was cleaned, repainted, and nets, rims were replaced and the court was revealed. this was actually just one of the dozens of clean up projects today across the city. later mayor jim kenney joined volunteers from the international union of painters, anal identify trades as they work to spruce up mitchell elementary school right there in southwest philadelphia refurbished a dilapidated staircase and did some painting to fresh even up the old building. in olney volunteers spent the morning sprucing up the area around starting line of the blue cross broad street run this group from lasalle university, and the philadelphia parks and recreational department removed trash and raked up leaves. the run takes place sunday may . in 100 days, tens of thousands of people will flock to philadelphia, at the democratic party formally nominates its candidate for president. it is expect to be a festive atmosphere so it is only right to start the celebration early. one hundred days early to be precise. delaware, that was destroyed by fire late last year officially said good bye to that building to day. the new jerusalem missionary baptist church ativan did he ever avenue and pine street in wilmington was in the process of being rebuilt from a separate fire when flames burned it to the ground last december. this afternoon church members held a memorial services where church used to sit, as a process of raising fund to build a new house of worship is already underway. officials from st. christopher's hospital for children, showed off their brand new critical care tower today. 135,000 square foot building will house a, neonatal unit, gym for physical and occupational therapy and new dent willal unit. it will now serve as the hospital's new main entrance. the is there a unique piece of art in the hospital lobby n fact, officials here are hoping that it will break the record for the largest mosaic consisting only of marbles.

how about that. young patients at the nemores du pont hospital in wilmington delaware got a chance to showcase their talents today. these children have a problem which impairs their ability to use their shoulders, hand and lower extremities but they did not let that stop them this afternoon as they performed music and played games designed to help them compensate for the disabilities. hundreds of high school freshman, took their moms to lunch today. hundreds of the student from boys latin attended mother/son run inch in wynfield heights. it is a way for ninth grade tours celebrate the most important woman in their lives our convenient own tamala edward served as keynote speaker.
