called 911 after the shooting, but then refused to come out of the home. "action news" reporter, trish hartman has been following the story all morning long, she is at the precinct in hunting park with the latest. that standoff ended in tragedy. it did, nydia. four people shot three people dead. police have not released his name, he is in custody after killing three people including his own brother and brother's girlfriend and another man shooting them inside his home. around 10:45 a.m., police brought out the three bodies from the home in the 600 block of east west moreland street. all three were shot in the head. police say this began around 3:45 a.m. when an argument broke out inside the home. the suspect pulled out a shotgun and started shooting. a 4th victim was shot in the arm he was able to escape, he is

roferg from the hospital. the -- recovering at the hospital. the suspect called 911 himself. hostage negotiators talked to him, but he refused to come out of the house. the s.w.a.t team climbed on the roof of the home, he refused to come out. another woman said she is friends with the suspect. he asked to speak with her. he wanted to talk to me. we didn't know why, what he was going to tell me. the police told me they used me to take him out when they told me they were going to get me, the police knocked on the door that's when he opened the door. 3:00 a.m., 2:40 a.m., around there. i heard five or six shotguns and

i woke up, but i asked my boyfriend, is did he hear sometg he told he he didn't. we want back to sleep. the woman who said she knows the suspect, he struggling with stress an anger issues. she said about a month ago he broke a window in his home, but she said she never thought he would be capable of anything like this. reporting live in hunting park, trish hartman channel 6 "action news." thanks for the update. now to the in fact about a deadly shooting of a four-year-old girl in kensington. police thought the 5-year-old sibling pulled the trigger. we have learned that's not case. the girl's father turned himself in last night. he admitted to accidentally shooting her. it happened on the 200 block of east mayfield street. the little girl was shot once in the chest and died at the scene. initially police thought her 5-year-old sibling was responsible. they say the investigation is on

going and charges are pending. new at noon, police in south jersey say a deadly shooting involved one of their own. officers responded to 7th and cherry streets in vineland around 1:00 a.m. for reports of shots fired. a person had been robbed by two men. they said when officers encountered assailant there was an exchange of gunfire. one suspect was killed the other got away. the victim of that robbery was flown to the hospital listed in stable condition. cumberland county prosecutor's office is investigating the case. heroic events by an ems crew and one man is being credited with saving several people who were trapped in an apartment buildings burning in south south jersey. the ems crew was across the street when they saw towering flames pouring through the mansion apartments in pine

camden county. i scaled the side of the building and was trying to get her down, but she was frightened, so she was clinching the railing. so, like, had to pull her arms to get her off. after i did that, i lifted her over the rail and just handed her down to the police. the young man, yes he is a hero, he is a hero, because i was pulling him, i was pulling him, he could have got hurt i could have got hurt, he could have fell off there. he was strong, he told them i need help over there, and officers ran over there and three other people and he said i'm going to drop her, catch her and they caught me. frightening time for the folks there. brown was one of the several people ems crew helped rescue. we went from door to door, balcony to balcony screaming let's go, at one point we were

pulling people off the balcony, pulling them over, pine hill police department and emts. thanks to the rescue efforts there were no serious injuries, but the fire destroyed 8 apartments. the red cross is helping to find temporary shelter for two dozen people no word on what caused the fire. now to ecuador where search and rescue crews are scrambling to find survivors after a magnitude 7.8 earthquake. we have learned that the death toll has risen to 233. a shopper captured this cell phone video the moment the quake hit. you can see store shelves shaking again, at least 233 people confirmed dead. the death toll could rise further as rescuers search fishing ports and tourists beaches near the epicenter. this is the strongest earthquake

to hit ecuador in decades. officials say the damage stretches for hundreds of miles. it is a similar situation right here in japan. take a look at this video not one, but two powerful earthquakes have killed at least 41 people and damaged more than a thousand buildings. 11 people remain missing. today there's word that the u.s. is joining relief efforts. abc's matt gutman is in japan with the latest. >> reporter: that army of rescuers in blue scouring rivers of mud for the missing, a last ditch effort of recovery after the spasm of earthquakes swallow ed heys and homes. mother nature rising up against southern japan. the biggest quakes striking in the dead of night. saturday so violent they sent the cameras spinning.

the hardest hit townhouse after house crumbled. it was where this scene unfolded two days ago a 9-month-old baby girl trapped for hours. out of the wreckage and the darkness gingerly cradled. they found smoke was coming out from inside, they are trying to make sure nobody is left under the rubble. it was then that a man came up to us. he was the baby's grandfather. her name baby miku. you knew she was alive because you reached in and touched her and she grabbed her hand. he told me he could ski her and he hopped in the tiny pick up and drove up through the cracked streets.

take to the streets tomorrow for the boston marathon including a survivor of the 2013 bombings. both patrick downstairs and his wife lost a lower leg in the attack. they were the first civilians to rehab at walter reid medical center. they brought a special guest along with them for the weekend. the wounded warriors came into the hospital room a week or two after the bombings and showed us there is life after being blown up. he will be running the 22.6 miles while his wife sheers him on from the sidelines. red cross run is one month from today. >> reporter: it's an annual tradition in philadelphia.

this year it's may 1 when tens s of thousands of people will run ten miles down broad street. that includes this group, they've been train winning city fit girls a group of woman who meet every wednesday to do a fun training run in the city. it's my thing, i love it. calms me down keeps me healthy. >> reporter: for rachel brown it will be her second broad street run. she is hoping to improve her time. i try to bump up my mileage on a the weekend by a mile or two each week. i try to to be cautious about it. >> reporter: dr. todd mcgrath dr. of or -- orthopedics said the slow and steady training is the key. if you start feeling the aches and pains you want to back it off a little bit. >> reporter: he recommends

around 10:00 had a -- 10:45 a.m., police brought out the three bodies. all three were shot in the head. this began around 3:45 a.m. when an argument broke out inside the home. the suspect then pulled out a shotgun and started shooting. police say the suspect called 911 himself to report the shooting. hostage negotiators spoke to the suspect on the phone. when he refused to come out of the house, a s.w.a.t team responded when the s.w.a.t team climbed on the roof of the home, the suspect fired shots at them. he did come out through the front door. they were able to arrest him. we spoke to several neighbors, one said the suspect asked to speak with him before he surrendered. did you get to talk to him? no, police would not permit me because he was with a gun, i don't know. they wanted to make believe they

could take me out so i could talk to him. >> reporter: did you want to talk to him? yeah i wanted to see what he was going to tell me, maybe he was going to tell me he was innocent or something. used to come and ask my mom if she was hungry. he was really nice. >> reporter: neighbors shocked and saddened by the whole scene. a fourth victim was shot in the arm, he was found a block away, he escaped from the home. he was taken to the hospital for treatment. police have not released the suspect's name or any information about any charges. trish hartman channel 6 "action news." thank you. a driver is being credited with saving three people from a fire in south jersey. the driver spotted the fire on magnolia avenue in pennsauken last night. the driver pulled over and e and knocked on the door and got the

three people inside the home to safety. firefighters pulled a person off the roof of a burning home in lancaster. four-alarm fire damaged four homes last night. these pictures were sent to us from the scene of a viewer. when crews arrived they found someone on the roof screaming for help. they pulled the person to safety. five families are without homes. no word on what sparked the fire. we've learned that rescue workers have called off the search for two teenage boys swopt out -- swept out to sea along coast of san francisco. they were swimming off ocean beach with three others teenagers. they managed to get back to the shore, but they are in the hospital. people don't realize how dangerous the rip tides are. we've had quite a few around here lately because of the violent waters and it is unfortunate, but folks come out here and they don't understand

how violent and how difficult the conditions are out here. >> reporter: the coast guard and san francisco fire department called off the effort after finding no sign of the boys after a five-hour search. police say they arrested the thief caught on camera stealing the package from the porch of a wynnfield home. the surveillance was captureed on woodbine avenue. the thief approached the door, waited for nearly a minute, kicked the box and then hid it in his jacket. the surveillance camera was installed after the home was particularized -- burglarized last year. happening in just a few minutes, governor tom wolf will sign into law the medical marijuana law scheduled for 1:00 p.m. it was approved by the state house last week. it will allow the patients to take the drug in pill, oil, vapor or liquid form.

the law does not legalize smoking marijuana. when signed pennsylvania will become the 24th state with a medical marijuana law. the countdown to the democratic national convention in philadelphia is on. the big events now 3 months away, organizers say they will be ready. outside the constitution center officials unveiled the countdown clock to the opening of the convention at the wells fargo center in south philadelphia a call has been put out for more volunteers even with more than 9,000 already assigned up. mayor kenny assured local businesses their bottom lines will see a boost come july. we are working with the business community through the dnc host committee, it's going to be a good time and they will make money and people will work. officials say the democratic convention is expected to generate $300 million in business for the city. much more to come on "action news" on this sunday at noon. president obama teams up with

so glad you stayed with us, the denver, colorado area is getting socked this weekend with snow, can you believe that? i think they can. by the end of the day 16 inches of snow is expected to fall on the city and suburbs. nearby centennial airport was closed for a short period of time yesterday. the storm canceled 7 of ten flights at the larger denver international airport. the airport will reopen today, but passengers should confirm their flights before heading to the airport. the snow is not a big surprise

21 in caspar where it's 73 degrees in des moines. there's a huge difference behind the front. the cold air is retreating northward up into canada. that was the cold air that provided denver as with all the snow in the past 24 hours. monday repeat performance, ton of sunshine. warmer 80 degrees. monday night into tuesday, back door cold front slips through and knocks the temperatures down a little bit, but we're still forecasting highs all the way up into the low to mid 70s. again a nice stretch of weather for us. the only downfall, the pollen count continues to be high. today, tomorrow, tuesday, wednesday and thursday and friday, each and everyday day here high pollen count with maple juniper and popular being the main culprits.
