firefighters tried an interior defense of the fire but were pushed back and went on the defensive. delran fire department says that eight units were evacuated. >> me and my brother were sleeping and firefighters started knocking and i was sleeping and if they didn't i probably would have died. i think i have smoke in my apartment but a friend of mine his apartment is all gone. >> one resident was taken to the local hospital and one firefighter with minor burns. >> joe cunningham says the injuries are minor for both the firefighter and resident were released. the fire marshall says that initial responders say that the fire started on the kitchen stove. >> i spoke to the gentlemen that lived in the unit where the fire started. they informed me that he placed a pot on the stove and went into the other room to do something and when he came back the kitchen was full of smoke.

situation across texas as floodwaters continue to wreak havoc in parts of the state there, authorities are keeping their eyes on two major dams in the houston area, they say the dams are at 50% in populated areas, rescuers continue to evacuate residents from water logged neighborhoods. so far eight people have died and thousands more are homeless and relief is not in sight. forecaste forecasters issued a flash flood watch for tonight. in other news, the south jersey nun claimed a powerful sleep drug caused her to fail a sobriety test. >> sister kimberly miller a teacher at little flower middle

school rushed home after being found guilty of driving under the influence. >> she is in tears and crying and she knows what happens that night. >> the police dash-cam shows that it was december 2015 when she was pulled over after slamming into a body shop. she failed a field sobriety test and she failed a breathalyzer and it was thrown out because of a tech quality. in her trial she testified she took an ambien and a glass of alter wine and has no recollection of how she came to be at the police station. >> i was in my habit in handcuffs, i'm a nun, i was in handcuffs. >> they rejected sister kim's story and the ambien defense.

they do not recognize the idea of sleep driving and other charges have not decided if there will be an appeal. they ordered sister kim's driver's license suspended for 90 days and has paid over $600 in fines. people have signed a petition supporting the nun and the archdiocese of philadelphia will keep her on min straight he live while they review the conviction. the man accused of murdering two women more than 20 years ago is now on trial. opening statements got underway in the case of rudolph churchill, is he charged in the killing of cheryl hannibal in north philadelphia. the investigation turned cold until 2014 when authorities say that dna evidence collected from both crime scenes led to churchill. the sec man wanted in a

shootout with police is now in custody. michael bayne is facing charges including robbery. they say he was behind a holdup monmorning and when officers arrived there was an exchange of gun fire and bar was killed. the friends and family are marching today from the site of the shooting to the police station to bee demand answers about what happened. an "action news" viewer sent us a picture of the raging flames in warringing ton. the flames were through the roof and firefighters were pulled from the inside of the homes because the flames were so intense. the philadelphia police helicopter offered assistance, you see how big the fire was and it took an hour to get things under control and there were no reports of injuries.

a driver is in the hospital because of this crash in port richmond. authorities say that a protein tank inside of car started to leak and that touched off an explosion. it's not clear how badly the driver was injured. police are looking for a man that broke into a center city office building, they released this video of the monday morning crime. he made his way to the seventh floor and helped himself to a laptop, camera and mountain bike before hop ngt elevator and leaving. a nonprofit in philadelphia is tackling the problem of poverty. diversified community service hosted a two gin are you in this morning. they outlined the generation poverty strategy facing in city residents. early childhood education is

south, a few days this week. as we look at the numbers tonight, 38 allentown and 39 in reading and a chill in the air with the clear sky and frost in the pine barrens in new jersey by tomorrow morning. the high is to the south means a return flow. winds go southerly except the shore could be cool in spots. but inland 74 degrees and we start with sun and clouds start to march in from the west during the afternoon hours, they will be high clouds and the sun will be able to penetrate through. on friday very warm again up near 80 degrees as the front collapses in and high pressure comes through and rain especially late friday into friday night. the exclusive accuweather forecast nice day tomorrow 74 and upper 70s and near 80 on friday and the rain coming in late in the day and a .25 to .50 inch of rain here. it does move out in time for the weekend. sunny here and wall-to-wall sun
