this morning's horrific assault at a wilmington, delaware school. police removed the victim a 16-year-old girl from the howard high school of technology but she was officially declared dead at the hospital. the victim died after a fight in the school bathroom. live at the school is chad pradelli. how did this happen? >> reporter: right now jim, i should say that a couple of dozen people gathered outside of howard high school where a vigil is planned. earlier today it was a disturbing scene out here as emergency responders tried to save this girl but to no avail. police tell us a fight started in the bathroom and a few minutes later a girl was dead. the images are disturbing a 16-year-old being wheeled out of the howard high school of technology as a paramedic performs chest compressions and

died at school before first period ended. this girl claims she was inside of a bathroom stall when the fight break out. >> she was fighting and all of these other girls started to bank her. >> what? >> banking her, jumping her. >> she was air-lifted to childrens hospital of dupont and mayor williams arrived on the scene stunned by the tragic news. >> am so upset that a young lady lost her life today. things like this shouldn't happen. my heart bleeds for the family. wilmington police chief bobby cummings says that police are reviewing at least one video of the fight and scouring social media to see what may have led to it. the apparent beating death has this award winning school and this city shocked. >> this is an unforeseen and unbelievable tragedy for the

family. >> it's an unbelievable incident. we are trying to get to what took place and see if can he can get understanding out of it, we have no other information at this point. >> officials are not releasing the name of the victim. police tell me that three people are currently being questioned as participants in this altercation or at witnesses, i am told that school will open and close early at 11:15 and grief counselors will be made available. >> thank you chad. more trouble at conestoga high school. a former teacher's aide and coach at the main line school has been arrested on sex related charges. authorities say that christine to youers of phoenixville was having a sex owl relationship with a 16-year-old student. sara bloomquist is live now. first hazing scandal and now

this. >> reporter: that is right another blow for the district. christine towers work sd as a teacher's aide and -- before they knew there was an ongoing investigation by the d.a. this morning she appeared in court on sex assault charges. >> christine towers is out on bail after being charged on sexual assault and corruption of minors. she worked as an aide since 2014 and coached girls soccer, track and basketball in the district. just 15 days ago a 15-year-old student said he was in a sexual relationship with the aide. between that dade and april 17th, he says the two engaged in

unprotected sexual intercourse four separate times and she told him not to tell police. it was not long ago that a student charged teammates of sexually abusing him with a broom handle. >> a letter went home to parents after the school outlining towers history with the district. the superintendant wrote when placed in positions of violating a fundamental trust it's deeply disturbing to us as well. and it remains a top priority and we continue to support all students as the case moves through the criminal justice system. >> and that letter to parents added that towers had no prior criminal record when she was hired by the district, it added that there is no evidence that she victimized no other
